Peaked with the musical episode and has been on the wane ever since.

Game of Games and the HS reunion eps were amazing.

Pffft since day one this show has been south park-y, i.e. it can be amazing but also if they do a shitty theme or want to make a point it sucks. This isn't really any different.

Last season had both Frank's Pretty Woman and his brother which was amazing.

the jersey shore episode last year was an all-timer.

the meta didnt really add much for me but it didnt detract either, i enjoyed the ep v much

So, I watched the first DeVito-less season, and while amused, wasn't impressed enough to continue. Obviously plenty of folks love this show, but plenty of folks love those so-so DeVito free eps, too. Should I give future seasons a shot, or is it just more or less variations on the same original idea? Does it grow or develop or no, or at least get funnier, or does it just kind of vamp on tasteless scenarios and un-PC jokes a la "Archer?"

Eh i think i'm starting to lose interest in this show. And yeah Dee's racist impression was just dumb and stupid.

I know people here love it, but is it a case of "if you don't like the first season you won't ever like it" or "stick with it, because it gets even better/funnier" ?

it gets more polished and elaborate but its p much all there in the 1st season iirc

first season is kinda lame. devito is the best character.

this ep and the last werent too hot. dee's racist latina lady is great tho.

also it is way different from archer type un-pc comedy. archer is 'haha look at what we can get away with saying' while sunny is 'omg these are horrible people listen to what they just said'

See, just within a couple posts, one person says season one is pretty much what you get later, and the next says season one is lame.

ya but the second person also thinks danny devito is better than charlie so theyre not really reliable

idk season 1 just seems like an extended pilot to me.

tbh i have not done exhaustive comparative studies of the many seasons of its always sunny in philadelphia in the finest ilx tv criticism tradition, i just remember watching the first season and then wanting to watch the second season because it was funny

they put together the pilot themselves for like zero dollars iirc which is p rad

the first episode i saw tho i think was the one from a later season where they try to go on trip somewhere but fail to leave the city

this is a show i've never really watched according to "seasons," for some reason, i just kinda pick at random. the only seasons that seem distinct are the first one (no de vito) and whatever the last one was (fat mac)

and of course charlie is the best character, fuiud

at least watch the nightman musical ep before deciding whether to continue

I get that Devito brings a ton of wildness to this that's really necessary to break the core four out of their usual rhythms, but i just don't recognize as human someone who doesn't see Charlie as the top character here I mean come on.

Best of the season so far. Nice to see Charlie fucking someone over rather than being fucked over.

I was kind of put off by that bit, it seemed wildly out of character to me. But good episode overall!

I guess I didn't see the new one but the meta-shenanigans and terrible secondary characters wearing out their welcome is like barf city

Yeah it really feels like not much new is added to these characters and they are pretty much coasting on "You know how awful these people were? They're still awful people!" Maybe too many ensemble shows recently. Send Charlie off to do something on his own, etc.
