both of those polls are what are known on the internet as skewed polls, and I only care about unskewed polls

pew -4 and gallup +5 is hard to figure

yeah i think i need to wait on nate before reading any poll data the gallup "tied if we look at things in a way we otherwise never do" news was a real ffs moment for me

feel like people r m/l telling pollsters what they want to hear so they dont kill themselves out of boredom

if you think of the bell curve of poll results, pew -4 and gallup +5 are just on opposite sides of that curve. it's pretty clear that 'the real number' is in-between those two and it's not ridiculous that two individual polls would have a 9 point spread. it'd be ridiculous if 10 more polls came out and they all were -4 or +5 tho.

pre debate obama was trending toward his 08 margin which was p ridic all things considered ie there was a lot of slack in that rope - my predict romney nets ~1% off that debate all said and done

btw weird thing senate numbers seem to still be moving in the other direction, seeing no down ticket debate ripples

and according to nate silver the challenger tends to get a small bump fromt he first debate its just a thing that happens, human psychology press narrative etc

yeah w/ romney the situation was particularly well-suited for it because he just hadn't had a great press day, basically ever, and there were a lotta people waiting for an excuse to like him.

"respecting Romney" is as big an indicator of a crass electorate as "liking Obama"

i dont blame people for taking hopey changey serious, we do need change, and i dont think it was completely cynical on obamas part either, he was p naive abt it himself imho, i hope one thing that people whove had their feelings hurt take from the whole experience is a lot of the problems w/our government are structural, not just caused by bad politicians, although the structure does also tend to attract those

and i do think obama has changed some things for the better, tho obvs its not the massive overhaul of how the government does business that he promised, hes also done some inexcusably terrible things too

also it should be recalled that a lot of the sweet ass hopey feelings were tied to relief that bush wasnt around anymore, its east to forget how painful that dude was my lord

well the structural problems in our government have generally been put in place by bad politicians down the years

and good politicians can take them away, do you see

the biggest structural politicians were put in place by the worst politicians of all time, the founding fathers

they can only be un-put-in-place by a constitutional convention or a revolution
