add that to the compilation of all those other suarez dives. oh, wait.

Chris, Sunday, 7 October 2012 18:51 (thirteen years ago)

ffs hope avb fines bale for that. embarrassing

Randy Carol (darraghmac), Sunday, 7 October 2012 22:06 (thirteen years ago)

suarez dive was a shocker. any sympathy he did have wrt him not getting anything has evaporated. although as daft as it was, still incredible that he's made the headlines when bale's was equally as laughable, and huth stayed on the pitch for that stamp. it's a fucking pantomime.

Chris, Sunday, 7 October 2012 22:56 (thirteen years ago)

actually, having looked at it very closely, there actually is contact, and i'll happily upload a pic to prove it. fancy that. it was the indecision that did for him. he should've stayed down when he first felt contact. instead, he's realised a split second too late and gone down afterwards, which is what makes it look so ridiculous.

Chris, Monday, 8 October 2012 00:04 (thirteen years ago)

i think you're missing the point Chris

Number None, Monday, 8 October 2012 00:11 (thirteen years ago)

that's ridiculous chris. there's an initial touch, he sets himself, thinks about it, two seconds later he decides to jump and pull his own legs out from under himself. Any contact couldn't be less relevant.

Bale's was all the more infuriating because of the position he'd have been in if he'd not flopped. 'anticipating contact' is no excuse, take the hit if you want your foul, otherwise continue footballing pls.

Randy Carol (darraghmac), Monday, 8 October 2012 00:27 (thirteen years ago)

oi take this 'flopped' nonsense to the mls thread.

suarez incident looked like an actual penalty and maybe would have been given if he hadn't added some impromptu planking to the routine.

Perfect Chicken Forever (Merdeyeux), Monday, 8 October 2012 00:31 (thirteen years ago)

uh flopping is not exclusive to mls, yall kidding yourselves

DX Dx DX (dan m), Monday, 8 October 2012 04:44 (thirteen years ago)

he meant the word "flopped" as opposed to "dived"

vegetarian beef (Noodle Vague), Monday, 8 October 2012 07:02 (thirteen years ago)

I maintain that 'flopped' is the better word

Ismael Klata, Monday, 8 October 2012 07:15 (thirteen years ago)

he actually flopped, is what i'm saying

Randy Carol (darraghmac), Monday, 8 October 2012 09:01 (thirteen years ago)

spurs would be looking p good now if we'd not been so wobbly at the start. Callin top four at expense of utd.

Randy Carol (darraghmac), Monday, 8 October 2012 10:39 (thirteen years ago)

no way!

pandemic, Monday, 8 October 2012 10:40 (thirteen years ago)

Wobbly starts are okay by me, gives the manager the opportunity to pinpoint weaknesses and sort them out. Better than going great guns at the start and then being found out. The table's really tight at the moment.

Matt DC, Monday, 8 October 2012 10:46 (thirteen years ago)

sorry, not saying that the delayed flop (or tumble, whichever you prefer!) wasn't ridiculous, it clearly was, and he's daft for doing it.

anyway, i've just found a photo i took of rafa and mascherano holding a scarf in a carpark. crappy quality but vaguely exciting i suppose, i'll try to upload it in a bit.

Chris, Monday, 8 October 2012 13:39 (thirteen years ago)

Newcastle and Wonga. Perfect.

Ismael Klata, Wednesday, 10 October 2012 21:52 (thirteen years ago)

feel like there's an important dive to come from Owen this year

Aw hell, Borini's got a broken foot. I'd been thinking that when the team gets onto his wavelength it'll be spectacular, but I guess that's not happening before Christmas.

Ismael Klata, Thursday, 11 October 2012 20:29 (thirteen years ago)

This Christmas?

pandemic, Thursday, 11 October 2012 20:32 (thirteen years ago)

Borini will be great I tell you

Ismael Klata, Thursday, 11 October 2012 20:34 (thirteen years ago)

Randy Carol (darraghmac), Sunday, 14 October 2012 03:47 (thirteen years ago)

If I were a Liverpool fan I'd be more excited by the prospect of Sterling-Suarez-Suso front line getting a consistent runout.

Matt DC, Sunday, 14 October 2012 09:52 (thirteen years ago)

I dunno, Sterling's pretty raw and I feel he could do with a rest and a think shortly. Excited to see Suso get a run though, yes. And tbf the alliteration is very pleasing - if Shearer-and-Sutton could win the league, these three should do even better.

Ismael Klata, Sunday, 14 October 2012 10:13 (thirteen years ago)

Is this true? It would make for an interesting alt history to have Falcao rattling in goals for Villa for three seasons, though MON would probably have tried to make him a wingback or something.

"In 2009, Aston Villa manager Martin O'Neill was offered Radamel Falcao for £7m. He chose to buy Emile Heskey instead. #StupidFootballFacts"

I am the one and (onimo), Sunday, 14 October 2012 10:50 (thirteen years ago)

Wenger opted to sign Jeffers instead of Ibrahimovic in 2001. Of course Zlatan never would have made it in a proper league

'He never actually made me a serious offer, it was more, "I want to see how good you are, what kind of player you are. Have a trial".

'I couldn't believe it. I was like, "No way, Zlatan doesn't do auditions". I thought "You either know me or you don't and if you don't know me you can't really want me".

r|t|c, Sunday, 14 October 2012 11:48 (thirteen years ago)

It would make for an interesting alt history to have Falcao rattling in goals for Villa for three seasons

If you mean "rattling in goals for Villa for one season before being sold to Man City for £30m" then I'd agree with you.

Matt DC, Sunday, 14 October 2012 13:17 (thirteen years ago)

Poor Theo with his bruised lung. There are certain body parts shouldn't get injured in football.

Aston Villa boss Martin O'Neill has rubbished rumours that Colombian striker Radamel Falcao Garcis Zarate would soon be signing for the club from River Plate.

The 21-year-old forward from River Plate – the Argentinian club Villa signed Juan Pablo Angel from seven years ago – has been linked with a £5m switch to the West Midlands.

But O’Neill said:[ “It’s news to me. I think we’d be looking a little closer to home.”

The Colombian striker is considered one of the best young and up and coming youngsters in the Argentinian leagues.

Nilmar Honorato da Silva, Sunday, 14 October 2012 13:31 (thirteen years ago)

Cornelius Chi-Dubem Udebuluzor (Nilmar Honorato da Silva), Sunday, 14 October 2012 16:29 (thirteen years ago)

I wonder what he'd've done at Liverpool if it had been him instead of Dalglish?

Ismael Klata, Sunday, 14 October 2012 16:29 (thirteen years ago)

kind of amazing that john carew was probably about 27 by the time he ended up in england

Cornelius Chi-Dubem Udebuluzor (Nilmar Honorato da Silva), Sunday, 14 October 2012 16:30 (thirteen years ago)

firm supporter of bigs without borders.

Since I doubt there's a thread for next year's Cup of Nations yet - Cameroon have just managed to get themselves eliminated by Cape Verde

Ismael Klata, Sunday, 14 October 2012 16:34 (thirteen years ago)

Has ribobert song retired yet?

pandemic, Sunday, 14 October 2012 16:36 (thirteen years ago)

Controversy

According to his 2008 biography, Carra, Song's former Liverpool teammate Jamie Carragher claimed he launched a deliberate hard tackle in a practice session against the Cameroonian player because of the latter's perceived mockery of Carragher's defending.[31] "Song walked on to the training pitch with a smile on his face. He was limping off it with a grimace an hour later. The first chance I got, I did him. Never have I hunted down a 50–50 tackle with greater appetite. 'You're not fucking laughing now, are you, you soft cunt?' I said as he hobbled away."[32]

Cornelius Chi-Dubem Udebuluzor (Nilmar Honorato da Silva), Sunday, 14 October 2012 16:43 (thirteen years ago)

Was reading the other day that one of Cameroon's defenders was investigated for racially abusing an opponent by calling him "a dirty Corsican" in Ligue 1 last season.

Manchester United fan in peace

Whilst I certainly dont condone Jamie Carraghers violent thuggery I can understand as to why reacted to the ridiculous provocation by Rigobert Song. What Rigobert Song did to Carragher was very very bad and I think players from Africa and other parts of the world should not be so rude as to speak in their language and mock their English team-mates.

Songs crime was far worse than Carraghers

Was looking at one of those lists of "the most expensive footballer by nationality" and realized that Fulham are collecting these! They have four currently - Berbatov's sale to Man Utd was the highest ever for a Bulgarian, Mahamadou Diarra's to Real Madrid, Duff's to Chelsea, and then Bryan Ruiz to Fulham. Only one other club had that many and it's Madrid obv (Essien, Kaká, Modric, Ronaldo).

boxall, Monday, 15 October 2012 04:59 (thirteen years ago)

That Falcao to Villa thing makes my blood boil. Seriosuly, FUCK Martin O'Neill

Windsor Davies, Tuesday, 16 October 2012 11:06 (thirteen years ago)

thread lock holiday (Noodle Vague), Tuesday, 16 October 2012 11:08 (thirteen years ago)

hmmm for every 21 yr old falcao there's a bosko balaban, this alternate reality stuff is slashfic tbh

the oft-posited third fisherman (darraghmac), Tuesday, 16 October 2012 11:26 (thirteen years ago)

talk that is real

thread lock holiday (Noodle Vague), Tuesday, 16 October 2012 11:29 (thirteen years ago)

Yeah, don't find it particularly galling about what Falcao might have been for Villa / what he's since become. More annoyed by "I think we’d be looking a little closer to home.” So much money that could have been spent on players with, y'know, talent and resale value, rather than fucking Marlon Harewood
