the ones that I'm near most: fellow outcasts and ilxors (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Sunday, 7 October 2012 17:22 (thirteen years ago)

hey iatee watch these http://www.buzzfeed.com/andrewkaczynski/as-candidate-obama-promised-to-raise-the-minimum

zvookster, Sunday, 7 October 2012 17:35 (thirteen years ago)

ya go find where I said 'Obama never said that'. I said it would have been a stupid use of political capital.

iatee, Sunday, 7 October 2012 17:38 (thirteen years ago)

this is why it's a bad idea to get yr political news from buzzfeed

iatee, Sunday, 7 October 2012 17:39 (thirteen years ago)

xxpost. I always saw it more like "If you don't extend my unemployment benefits, I'll end up like all those poor people making minimum wage." Good for the economy maybe, but stimulating the already stimulated.

It's probably because I was working for minimum wage at the time, and the papers were full of sob stories of people getting unemployment checks double anything I've ever earned.

riding old whitey (Zachary Taylor), Sunday, 7 October 2012 17:40 (thirteen years ago)

lotsa people on unemployment get less than they would at a 40h min wage job.

iatee, Sunday, 7 October 2012 17:41 (thirteen years ago)

iatee do u work or volunteer with the campaign? yr mad hacky. point is this was part of the inspiring hope rhetoric & it was bullshit.

zvookster, Sunday, 7 October 2012 17:41 (thirteen years ago)

maybe you shouldn't believe the hope changey shit then you can be less bitter afterwards

iatee, Sunday, 7 October 2012 17:42 (thirteen years ago)

obama lied, zvookster cried

zvookster, Sunday, 7 October 2012 17:44 (thirteen years ago)

Obama didn't keep promises and maybe never intended to, but I don't think that's in the same ballpark as Romney's lying at the debate. Suddenly saying that your healthcare plan covers pre-existing conditions, and then having your campaign forced to concede that it doesn't the very next day, is flagrantly (and perhaps rightly) presuming that you can say whatever you want on the night and not enough people are going to pay attention the next day for it to matter.

Legendary General Cypher Raige (Gukbe), Sunday, 7 October 2012 17:46 (thirteen years ago)

It's really a shame that presidential candidates don't include a bunch of legislative caveats in all predictions about what they will do in office. But it's not comparable to what Romney is doing. Zvookster yr mad naive

Matt Armstrong, Sunday, 7 October 2012 17:47 (thirteen years ago)

so crushed that the president of america just turned out to be...a politician. he was black and he seemed nice I thought things were gonna be different :( :(

iatee, Sunday, 7 October 2012 17:47 (thirteen years ago)

why didn't he press the minimum wage button on his desk

iatee, Sunday, 7 October 2012 17:48 (thirteen years ago)

maybe nobody told him where it was

iatee, Sunday, 7 October 2012 17:48 (thirteen years ago)

it's under the "buck stops here" sign

www.toilet-guru.com (silby), Sunday, 7 October 2012 17:49 (thirteen years ago)

to clear up one point before I turn on the tv. In my state,(I just looked) unemployment max is less than double minimum wage, and unemployment min is tiny, so I must have seen reports from other more generous states.

riding old whitey (Zachary Taylor), Sunday, 7 October 2012 17:53 (thirteen years ago)

romney: "I do have a plan that deals with people with pre-existing conditions." and he does, it's just pretty much the same one as exists before the ACA with some tweaks.

zvookster, Sunday, 7 October 2012 17:56 (thirteen years ago)

Zvookster you should talk to Romney's campaign spox cuz he thinks you're wrong

Matt Armstrong, Sunday, 7 October 2012 18:01 (thirteen years ago)

a classic iatee beef with an extra hefty dose of sneering condescension toward both fellow posters and the poor. A+ thread turn

Inconceivable (to the entire world) (underrated aerosmith bootlegs I have owned), Sunday, 7 October 2012 19:20 (thirteen years ago)

not gonna deny the first part but I hope one day you'll be able to distinguish between 'we should push for policies based on their likelihood of helping the maximum amount of poor people' and 'I hate poor people'

iatee, Sunday, 7 October 2012 19:30 (thirteen years ago)

I know they seem like v. similar statements but think it over

iatee, Sunday, 7 October 2012 19:31 (thirteen years ago)

think there are pretty big differences between campaign promises you don't really intend to fight hard for, campaign promises you intend to fight hard for but are naive about being able to pass, and outright lies. first two to some degree describe a majority of obama 08 campaign (and 12 also but not as much), outright lies more frequent w/ romney 12 campaign imo. at the same time, as i believe the right would discover if romney were elected, i think there's plenty of the first two present in romney campaign also. i'm skeptical a democratic controlled senate is more likely to pass his medicare 'reform' than a gop senate was to pass bush's social security reform in 05.

balls, Sunday, 7 October 2012 20:04 (thirteen years ago)

lol I know iatee there is no point in doing this dance, you won't cop to what the clear purport of your sentiment even though it's quite clear, it's cool, vast/containing multitudes etc

Inconceivable (to the entire world) (underrated aerosmith bootlegs I have owned), Sunday, 7 October 2012 21:14 (thirteen years ago)

Where is Obama’s Promised Minimum-Wage Hike?
by Ralph Nader

don't worry, someone is on this, gonna raise some consciousness

you all a buncha takers (say the sad bells of romney) (Hunt3r), Sunday, 7 October 2012 21:53 (thirteen years ago)

too busy shopping at the largest mall in Connecticut to form a real comeback but I think it's great that aero has learned to read between lines - pretty impressive catch this time and this newfound cynicism could represent some evolution in his political thought, maybe from now on he won't operate like a disappointed/confused puppy itt when American politics veers away from his view of this good and honest country.

iatee, Sunday, 7 October 2012 22:04 (thirteen years ago)

i have a hot bit of urban density waiting for me in my bed so i'll say this

Death Grits 2 (WmC), Sunday, 7 October 2012 23:10 (thirteen years ago)

The next two or three days need a suitably ridiculous Colbert-like name: "Pollocalypse Now."

Much of the improvement in Romney’s image is people going from hating Romney and voting for Obama to respecting Romney but still voting for Obama.

Yeah, sure, why not--I'd be okay with that.

I'll let the rest of you force yourself to watch this "major foreign policy address" - I have bathrooms to clean, which strikes me as a far better use of my time.

stop swearing and start windmilling (Shakey Mo Collier), Monday, 8 October 2012 20:17 (thirteen years ago)

it's the second poll with romney ahead. but yeah, the national polls aren't very importart.

obamana (abanana), Monday, 8 October 2012 20:18 (thirteen years ago)

isn't the other poll rasmussen tho lol

stop swearing and start windmilling (Shakey Mo Collier), Monday, 8 October 2012 20:19 (thirteen years ago)

both of those polls are what are known on the internet as skewed polls, and I only care about unskewed polls

iatee, Monday, 8 October 2012 20:19 (thirteen years ago)

iatee, SMC...just waiting for lagoon's reassurances now.

The other poll was PEW, who recently had Obama up by 8. Anyway, Gallup's much better: http://www.gallup.com/poll/154559/US-Presidential-Election-Center.aspx.
