season 2 poster should be the four girls lookin' real glamorous on a brooklyn street with a close-up of a male hipster torso in the center
― da croupier, Friday, 5 October 2012 22:42 (thirteen years ago)
this conversation is now just 3-4 people who watched between 0-3 episodes right?
― boxall, Friday, October 5, 2012 6:37 PM (3 minutes ago) Bookmark Flag Post Permalink
feel like 3-4 eps is enough, thats how many they give critics right, were all critics here criticizing this shit
― lag∞n, Friday, 5 October 2012 22:42 (thirteen years ago)
Did you guys see the Michigan episode?
― Norah Jones Protest Vote (Eazy), Friday, 5 October 2012 22:43 (thirteen years ago)
i don't think so. say this for max (the kat dennings char from 2bg): she would never tweet something as saccharine and lesson'y as 'all adventurous woman do.'
― Mordy, Friday, 5 October 2012 22:44 (thirteen years ago)
that scene where she was dancing to robyn bc all girls live adventurously after she found out she had HPV (sorry if i am not remembering all the details clearly) was just so inane that might've actually been the last ep i saw. my wife quit awhile before and refused to watch tiny furniture with me (which i kinda liked a little more), she thought it was too gross to bear.
― Mordy, Friday, October 5, 2012 6:36 PM (6 minutes ago) Bookmark
yeah that might've been the show's lowest point. i didnt watch for a while after that too, but eventually i finished the season and it did turn out to be pretty good. i get your objections though
― turds (Hungry4Ass), Friday, 5 October 2012 22:46 (thirteen years ago)
looking at quotes from 2 broke girls to see what she would tweet and damn she does not like hipsters
― da croupier, Friday, 5 October 2012 22:46 (thirteen years ago)
We've had this same conversation already on the other thread but when a person tweets four words that they heard in second-hand conversation, do you suppose they mean it genuinely or is there likely to be some irony there?
― boxall, Friday, 5 October 2012 22:49 (thirteen years ago)
i think in that scene it was intended entirely genuinely.
― Mordy, Friday, 5 October 2012 22:49 (thirteen years ago)
contextually it was supposed to represent closure and coming to peace w/ the things that had befallen her. and then she expressed that sentiment thru ritually dancing along to a robyn song.
ya it was not ironic
― lag∞n, Friday, 5 October 2012 22:50 (thirteen years ago)
or post ironic
it was that thing that doesnt fit in the diff categories of ironic, whatever its called
― lag∞n, Friday, 5 October 2012 22:51 (thirteen years ago)
it's not called "genuine"
― boxall, Friday, 5 October 2012 22:52 (thirteen years ago)
It always amuses me when ppl critique the ridiculousness/banality of some of the lines/issues/characters on that show as if its something LD is unaware of and not deliberately commenting on
― bell biv devo (Stevie D(eux)), Friday, 5 October 2012 22:52 (thirteen years ago)
can we talk about that ironic scene in tiny furniture when she has sex w/ the guy in the drainpipe? wtf was that about?
― Mordy, Friday, 5 October 2012 22:52 (thirteen years ago)
whats the comment, that she hates her friends xp
― lag∞n, Friday, 5 October 2012 22:54 (thirteen years ago)
i am now watching my third episode of 'girls'
― set the controls for the heart of the congos (thomp), Friday, 5 October 2012 22:54 (thirteen years ago)
and i mean fine maybe so, still doesnt make for a great tv show to watch, or even good art if shes being more ambitious, its not even insightful! real life people are more interesting than her characters
― lag∞n, Friday, 5 October 2012 22:56 (thirteen years ago)
That's OK because you only have to spend 30 minutes with her characters 8 times per year, I spent almost twice as much time with real people last year.
― boxall, Friday, 5 October 2012 23:00 (thirteen years ago)
It was notable I think as the season went along how ppl's opinions in the GIRLS thread became generally more positive, iirc there was some collective eye rolling at how it collected 500 posts almost all negative before there'd even been 2 episodes.
― boxall, Friday, 5 October 2012 23:01 (thirteen years ago)
fair, i did not take into account the standard real/fake time ratio adjustment
― lag∞n, Friday, 5 October 2012 23:02 (thirteen years ago)
i'll admit that if it got better later on, i wouldn't know. my parents tell me that newsradio has gotten really good - another show i similarly checked out on early in the run bc of how bad it was. and sorkin afaik has a penis!
― Mordy, Friday, 5 October 2012 23:02 (thirteen years ago)
iirc i was halfheartly defending it on the other thread but now i guess i dont like it
― lag∞n, Friday, 5 October 2012 23:03 (thirteen years ago)
there's already a GIRLS thread for talking about GIRLS specifically and not just talking about idk Lena Dunham's zeitgeistyness though there was lots of weirdness at the start of that thread too (before the show premiered)
― www.toilet-guru.com (silby), Friday, 5 October 2012 23:03 (thirteen years ago)
shes done two things that both have threads right
― lag∞n, Friday, 5 October 2012 23:04 (thirteen years ago)
twelve minutes in, this show is really good, what the hell is wrong with people
― set the controls for the heart of the congos (thomp), Friday, 5 October 2012 23:05 (thirteen years ago)

― www.toilet-guru.com (silby), Friday, 5 October 2012 23:06 (thirteen years ago)
anyway she seems kinda ok, only super noteworthy thing abt her is she is v young m/l, im unclear why everyone wants to talk abt her so much, tho i completely get why ilx wants to talk abt her so much
― lag∞n, Friday, 5 October 2012 23:07 (thirteen years ago)
I am cautiously a fan based only on the show, haven't seen the movie, and I don't know why this poll exists, did something happen this month other than J0rdan read a year-old possibly racist travel piece nobody even bothered to link to?
― boxall, Friday, 5 October 2012 23:09 (thirteen years ago)
the movie is p clearly better than the show
― lag∞n, Friday, 5 October 2012 23:10 (thirteen years ago)
more importantly, did he find that possibly racist travel piece bc we were chatting about thisrecording on the grantland thread?

nope. classic jordan.
― turds (Hungry4Ass), Friday, 5 October 2012 23:10 (thirteen years ago)
I'm not sure if her Japan piece is racist, it was too boring for me to finish (her "I can't imagine having sex with a native" line is pretty o_0 tho)

tweeting-then-dancing scene pretty funny, pretty affecting
― set the controls for the heart of the congos (thomp), Friday, 5 October 2012 23:29 (thirteen years ago)
pretty funny, pretty affecting show
also the lady in the show has a belly, which is brave.
― set the controls for the heart of the congos (thomp), Friday, 5 October 2012 23:30 (thirteen years ago)
are you being ironic, i cant tell
― turds (Hungry4Ass), Friday, 5 October 2012 23:42 (thirteen years ago)
well there is a $4 million+ bidding war for her book going on right now, so it def makes sense for j0rdan to start this poll now

the 3.6mil thing seems to come from a deadline.com story that doesn't name any sources? that is obviously a pretty ridiculous number if it is accurate, but it honestly just seems like too many digits
― set the controls for the heart of the congos (thomp), Saturday, 6 October 2012 10:04 (thirteen years ago)
Hollywood Reporter does reporting and says the same thing, puts it in the context of Bossypants getting bought for $5 million.
