Hah, I was about to contact my friend Joe Outer Church and alert him, but a quick check of Facebook suggests that Brighton is a small town :)

Andrew Farrell, Wednesday, 3 October 2012 20:12 (thirteen years ago)

It is indeed.

emil.y, Wednesday, 3 October 2012 20:27 (thirteen years ago)

two months pass...

Apparently Borderline is closing?

emil.y, Tuesday, 11 December 2012 15:51 (thirteen years ago)

What? Shit! First Rounder and now this....

insert witticism here (hypehat), Tuesday, 11 December 2012 17:13 (thirteen years ago)

Hadn't been in there for ages, but feel sad for the old psych-head dudes that work there.

Albert Crampus (NickB), Tuesday, 11 December 2012 17:24 (thirteen years ago)

four weeks pass...

Bad news about all the classic record stores closing, although my favourite‘s over the last few years have been One Stop Records and Rarekind.

Good news is after 2 years away, I’m moving back to Brighton next Monday! FAP?

Chewshabadoo, Wednesday, 9 January 2013 16:36 (thirteen years ago)

And what‘s hot these days?

Chewshabadoo, Wednesday, 9 January 2013 16:41 (thirteen years ago)

Also, I’m looking for a short-medium term room to let if anyone knows anyone looking and would like to share with a music obsessive and pretty decent cook who doesn’t mind sharing his meals.

Chewshabadoo, Wednesday, 9 January 2013 16:43 (thirteen years ago)

w00t!

I’m moving back to Brighton next Monday! FAP?

yyy

Every time I’ve come down to visit for the odd week it has always felt like home I must say.

Chewshabadoo, Wednesday, 9 January 2013 16:54 (thirteen years ago)

FAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAP.

There are some good shows and stuff coming up, too. Sadly the Thurston Moore/Colour Out of Space show sold out in a day so you'll miss out there.

I'll keep an ear out for rooms, not heard of anyone looking recently but it comes up relatively often.

emil.y, Wednesday, 9 January 2013 17:07 (thirteen years ago)

never even heard about the thurston show, could be interesting though my days of being an SY/thurston stan seem like a very long time ago indeed

i am brötzmanning this weekend, so that should up my skronk levels a bit until the winter is thru

impound the alarm (NickB), Wednesday, 9 January 2013 17:23 (thirteen years ago)

but yeah fap fap fap, someone make a plan

impound the alarm (NickB), Wednesday, 9 January 2013 17:24 (thirteen years ago)

I don't think I can afford Brötzmann, although tbh I REALLY want to go. Bah.

The Thurston show is a CooS fundraiser, with quite a few people playing who I may or may not like more than Thurston himself...

emil.y, Wednesday, 9 January 2013 17:25 (thirteen years ago)

I don't think I can afford Brötzmann, although tbh I REALLY want to go. Bah.

should be good - think it kicks off at four or so with some film screening or other, then brötzy is doing his thing after that. don't mind shouting you a few drinks if you want...

impound the alarm (NickB), Wednesday, 9 January 2013 17:32 (thirteen years ago)

Not back until early next week, but do some good Brötzmanning

Chewshabadoo, Wednesday, 9 January 2013 18:02 (thirteen years ago)

mmil.y, is this music quiz thing still a thing?

qbert yuiop (NickB), Tuesday, 15 January 2013 16:07 (thirteen years ago)

err emil.y not mmil.y

qbert yuiop (NickB), Tuesday, 15 January 2013 16:07 (thirteen years ago)

helloooo brighton

qbert yuiop (NickB), Tuesday, 15 January 2013 17:07 (thirteen years ago)

It is! Back on the 22nd.

How was Brötzmann? Just couldn't eat that £17 entry fee in the end, particularly not after shelling out £25 for Residents tickets.

emil.y, Tuesday, 15 January 2013 17:09 (thirteen years ago)

oh smashing. thanks! :)

brötz was great and the whole film thing before hand was actually really nice - good job put his work into context, him talking about growing up in the shadow of ww2 etc all very humanising (is that a word?). the trio itself was amazing!

qbert yuiop (NickB), Tuesday, 15 January 2013 17:29 (thirteen years ago)

btw is there a thurston moore lookalike in brighton? big tall guy that looked just like him stood watching

qbert yuiop (NickB), Tuesday, 15 January 2013 17:31 (thirteen years ago)

Oh, I think I saw on facebook or twitter that he was there? But then again it could've been a friend making the same mistake... The only TM lookalike I know is Luke from Helm, but he's like a little baby Thurston, it wouldn't have been him.

emil.y, Tuesday, 15 January 2013 17:47 (thirteen years ago)

hmm i wonder... (not luke from helm btw. i've seen him before when he was in birds of delay with steeeve)

just saw that thurston is playing with andy pyne when he does his thing there. that'll be good cos andy is great! also chuffed for him cos he's been a SY fan since way back iirc

qbert yuiop (NickB), Tuesday, 15 January 2013 17:56 (thirteen years ago)

I didn't realise that either! Super awesome news.

emil.y, Tuesday, 15 January 2013 18:12 (thirteen years ago)

Where is the quiz? I'm officially down now, albeit sofa surfing while looking around rooms.

Chewshabadoo, Tuesday, 15 January 2013 22:02 (thirteen years ago)

West Hill (pub, not hall). 8pm (usually a little bit later of a start, to be honest, but best to get down before half past), Tuesday 22nd. Free entry, bottle of wine for the winning team.

I'd better get working on some more questions, actually.

emil.y, Tuesday, 15 January 2013 22:06 (thirteen years ago)

was gonna say matt, i'm only half of a pair idiots atm, so if you fancy swelling the ranks COME JOIN WITH US

hope things are going well so far anyhow...

qbert yuiop (NickB), Tuesday, 15 January 2013 23:23 (thirteen years ago)

Cool. It’s in the diary!

Chewshabadoo, Wednesday, 16 January 2013 07:47 (thirteen years ago)

good man!

qbert yuiop (NickB), Wednesday, 16 January 2013 10:21 (thirteen years ago)

I may not be able to make it this time, but I was wondering if they still do food in the evening?

Chewshabadoo, Monday, 21 January 2013 22:07 (thirteen years ago)

The West Hill do indeed do food in the evening (there is a cheaper burger offer for quiz nights, too). I think there's one night a week the chef has off - maybe Wednesdays? But I'd double check that rather than taking my word for it.

emil.y, Monday, 21 January 2013 22:09 (thirteen years ago)

If you are able to make it Matt, I'll probably be getting there for 7.45-ish. The other one of us is apparently going to be running quite late, so gosh, sounds like I'm going to have ample opportunity to fully expose the tremendous bulging girth of my own ignorance, oops

a la recherche du tempbans perdu (NickB), Tuesday, 22 January 2013 13:59 (thirteen years ago)

Thanks Emily. if I don’t make it tonight – which is looking unlikely – I’ll definitely make sure I can come to the next one.

Chewshabadoo, Tuesday, 22 January 2013 14:04 (thirteen years ago)

how's the house hunting going anyway?

a la recherche du tempbans perdu (NickB), Tuesday, 22 January 2013 14:06 (thirteen years ago)

I'm sure you'll be fine, Nick. We have a rather odd range of people turn up, from "absolute music dork" to "why are you even at a music quiz?"

emil.y, Tuesday, 22 January 2013 14:26 (thirteen years ago)

(not luke from helm btw. i've seen him before when he was in birds of delay with steeeve)

oh, I wondered what happened to Birds of Delay, but I was clearly just not lurking on the right regional threads to find out

(they were rather good when they came to Oxford supporting Axolotl, back in the day when Oxford still had interesting gigs. then again I seemed to be the only person there who didn't know the promoter and therefore possibly the only paying customer, so maybe it is no surprise that nobody bothers to come to town any more)

a panda, Malmö (a passing spacecadet), Tuesday, 22 January 2013 14:31 (thirteen years ago)

yeah, one of birds of delay became helm, the other one became heatsick, and both of them ended up on the pan label

a la recherche du tempbans perdu (NickB), Tuesday, 22 January 2013 14:39 (thirteen years ago)

ps come to brighton

a la recherche du tempbans perdu (NickB), Tuesday, 22 January 2013 14:45 (thirteen years ago)

Birds were great, yep.

COME TO BRIGHTON, SPACECADET.

emil.y, Tuesday, 22 January 2013 14:48 (thirteen years ago)

I looked at a few houseshares on Gumtree, and I picked the only one I saw in person, so pretty painless really. Moving in this Friday.

Chewshabadoo, Tuesday, 22 January 2013 15:07 (thirteen years ago)

what bit of brighton have you ended up with?

a la recherche du tempbans perdu (NickB), Tuesday, 22 January 2013 15:41 (thirteen years ago)

The Muesli Mountain, not lived in BN2 before so it’s all new.

Chewshabadoo, Tuesday, 22 January 2013 19:23 (thirteen years ago)

That's the bits off Southover Street? My girlfriend lives up there. It'll keep your calves healthy!

Andrew Farrell, Tuesday, 22 January 2013 22:29 (thirteen years ago)

Aye, that’s the one. I was always heading up there to do to Archers, which is a great butcher and I’m now very close to it. I’m not very far up the hill, only 5 roads or so.

Chewshabadoo, Wednesday, 23 January 2013 11:43 (thirteen years ago)

Does Brighton have a big Czech community? A friend's band is coming over to play The Great Escape and was wondering whether they might be able to advertise in Czech shops, bars, etc if there are any.

Tullamorte Tullamore (ShariVari), Wednesday, 23 January 2013 11:49 (thirteen years ago)

Hm, not that I can think of. I know one guy who does Eastern European folk music promotion, if that's related? Also, I found this though I can't understand what it says, but I guess they might do better: http://www.kotolna.com/

(Tell them to play Nottingham, that does have a massive Polish/Czech/Slovak community.)

Sadly bad weather meant fuck all people turned up so we postponed the quiz... still had a great evening, though I think we might have broken Nick. Oops.

emil.y, Wednesday, 23 January 2013 16:07 (thirteen years ago)

Is it weekly?

Chewshabadoo, Wednesday, 23 January 2013 16:34 (thirteen years ago)

Emily, just added you on that Facebook after finding an old quiz invite on there.
