lag∞n, Wednesday, 3 October 2012 19:40 (thirteen years ago)

the other weird thing about 'there you go again' is that he says 'GOVERNOR, there you go again!' to carter. i wonder how many ppl thought 'oh, burn!' and how many ppl thought 'did he forget who he was talking to again?'

(The Other) J.D. (J.D.), Wednesday, 3 October 2012 19:40 (thirteen years ago)

the JFK burn was pretty sweet

Mr. Que, Wednesday, 3 October 2012 19:44 (thirteen years ago)

lol just watched this. wow rick perry really was one of the kind. also seeing quayle-bentsen clip for first time since 88 it's pretty amazing to see this look of 'OMG YES' come over bentsen's face as soon as quayle mentions kennedy.

While Mondale doesn't zing him, I loved how he provoked Reagan into one of the few flashes of anger he showed at president. Watch his face when he realizes the audience is clapping FOR Mondale.

iatee, Wednesday, 3 October 2012 19:58 (thirteen years ago)

Are they always going to have the navy blue backdrop for debates? I liked the sky blue curtains from 1980.

not in a debate but reagan's 'a recession is when yr neighbor is out of a job. a depression is when you are out of a job. and a recovery is when jimmy carter is out of a job!' quip

yeah -- a distant cousin to Governor Reagan's dismissal of hippies: "A hippie is someone who looks like Tarzan, walks like Jane, and smells like Cheetah."

OBAMA BANNED THIS VIDEO

max, Wednesday, 3 October 2012 20:05 (thirteen years ago)

lol kinda funny in retrospect that mondale was entirely otm about reagan deploying 'there you go again' to deny plans to do something he would then go on to do after the election

balls, Wednesday, 3 October 2012 20:07 (thirteen years ago)

lol does tucker carlson know about this????

balls, Wednesday, 3 October 2012 20:07 (thirteen years ago)

haha does anyone know if daily show had time to react to BOMBSHELL VIDEO featuring THAT ANGER and THAT ACCENT? don't really watch daily show much anymore (don't have cable) but always have time for jon stewart going off on tucker carlson.

balls, Wednesday, 3 October 2012 20:09 (thirteen years ago)

t-n coates' theory is that stewart whupping carlson has sent the latter into his current breitbart-manque tailspin. interesting theory.

Carlson's descent from reasonably credible magazine journalist to inept race hustler is well mapped territory. He has not been the same man since Jon Stewart took him down. The ethering reverberates through the years with such force that we now find its recipient slathering yesterday's nothing-burgers in weak sauce, and serving them up as the daily special.

GOP satraps shake their heads:

DENVER — Tuesday night’s Drudge-led revival of a 2007 Barack Obama speech offered satisfaction to a core of conservatives who believe it exposed Obama’s secret radicalism and racial politics — but that view was far from universal among Republican strategists, many of whom wrung their hands over the high-profile video, which also ran on Fox News and The Daily Caller.

“This hurts Mitt,” said 2008 Romney consultant Alex Castellanos, who has at times been a harsh critic of his current campaign. “Mitt's window to turn the economic debate around is [Wednesday.] And his alleged supporters just shit on it. An abysmally selfish and stupid event.”

Castellanos wasn’t the only one to break ranks Tuesday.

“I [don’t] think this tape will persuade anyone. A cover up in Libya, a failing economy, and $16 trillion in debt are persuasive,” RedState Editor in Chief Erick Erickson tweeted late Tuesday.

“So, what new information do we have? That Obama's "I barely knew Rev Wright" was a lie? Sorry, already knew that,” tweeted Florida GOP consultant Rick Wilson.

Former McCain and Huntsman campaign manager John Weaver said attempts to use the video to energize the base are just another missed opportunity.

“Is the base Romney's problem?” he asked late Tuesday night. “I would hope he would, at least, ignore this. Instead, how about a detailed, believable economic plan focused on job creation? We're running against a guy with more than eight percent unemployed, etc. and instead of offering a counter plan for consumers to chose between, some are focused on the President being Black and liberal.”

i live in "bellweather" arapahoe county. i've had two separate democratic gotv efforts come by my suburban door. no republican efforts. i haven't seen too much romney enthusiasm exhibited. some anti-kenyan socialism shit though.

Unemployment rate down to 7.8%, but only 114,000 new jobs. However, last two months were revised up 86k jobs. Also job participation up .1%. Joe Scarborough is flailing.

Unbelievable jobs numbers..these Chicago guys will do anything..can't debate so change numbers

lag∞n, Friday, 5 October 2012 13:01 (thirteen years ago)

this morning the rial is falling + unemployment is below 8%. two major policy victories (economic + foreign affairs) for obama. but, you know, he seemed tired at the debates so i'm sure romney is going to win or whatever my fb friends are freaking out about today.

Cataloging the idiocy

Fiendish Doctor Wu (kingfish), Friday, 5 October 2012 14:27 (thirteen years ago)

The idiots on the Morning Joe tv thing with Joe Scarborough are back in "teleprompter" mode--saying Obama did lousy in the debate because he didn't have his teleprompter. They never discuss the substance or veracity of anything Romney said, they just love that he was on the attack.
