Wish Obama had made a "you don't give a fuck" gaffe so the whole Republican convention would have been call-and-response applause lines "WE GIVE A FUCK!" which sort of sums it up anyway, them caring a lot about shit no one else gives a fuck about

aside from their inclusion in the weird porous bullshit category of 'gaffes' they don't seem too similar to me. if it's just 'negative things that happened in a campaign' then yeah romney's was worse because it was a weird manifesto rather than a less than preferable phrasing of a sentence fragment.

i never really understood why 'there you go again' was supposed to be a good zinger.

it drips with "who's your daddy?" condescension and the fact that carter didn't pop him one in the nose made it seem that he accepted the inferior position so implied.

Yeah, it was mainly the amiable and unflappable way that Reagan delivered it that brought the audience over to his side. It showed that this nice, grandfatherly figure could slip the dagger in with a smile.

Funny how there have been two debates where Poland has been the subject of memorable lines.

reagan 'i won't use my opponents youth against him' line against supposedly defused age issue. also 'i paid for that microphone' showed that other republicans in 80 primary were pussies and if reagan was gonna have to rip his opponents hearts out and shove them down their childrens throats he was totally willing to go there. not in a debate but reagan's 'a recession is when yr neighbor is out of a job. a depression is when you are out of a job. and a recovery is when jimmy carter is out of a job!' quip is one i'm kinda amazed romney hasn't repurposed if only to play up obama=carter comparison. adm. stockdale's 'who am i? why am i here?' zinger was pretty good.

the other weird thing about 'there you go again' is that he says 'GOVERNOR, there you go again!' to carter. i wonder how many ppl thought 'oh, burn!' and how many ppl thought 'did he forget who he was talking to again?'

While Mondale doesn't zing him, I loved how he provoked Reagan into one of the few flashes of anger he showed at president. Watch his face when he realizes the audience is clapping FOR Mondale.
