6) Mitt Romney and his sons saved a family and their dog from drowning: Mitt Romney saw people in trouble and he didn't wait for the government to save them, he made a REAL gutsy call, and did what he had to do to save their lives.

He made a REAL gutsy call to not watching a family drown from the back porch of his lake house.

1) Mitt Romney saved the life of a 14year old girl: Imagine what it would be like if we could have this kind of decisive people-centered leadership in the White House..

In 1998 the 14-year-old daughter of one of Romney's partners at Bain Capital, Robin Gay, had disappeared after attending a rave party in New York City. The distraught father was beside himself with terror of what may have happened to his little girl.

Upon hearing of this, Romney stopped all operations at Bain and flew himself and all of the company's employees to New York to conduct the search. Using his contacts with establishments in New York that did business with Bain and anoutlay of cash, Romney led a search for the girl from a command post he had set up in the LaGuardia Marriott that involved a private detective, Bain employees and customers putting up posters, handing out flyers, and interviewing prostitutes, drug addicts, and other street people in New York, and coordination with the New York Police.

A break came, after media publicity of the search, when a teenage boy called a tip line asking if there was a reward. He hung up, but not before the police traced the call to a home in New Jersey. The girl was found in the basement of the house undergoing withdrawals from a hit of ecstasy.

Romney, through his efforts, had saved the girl's life.

she was in some dudes house after a rave, mitt saved her, from death clearly

I imagine that story is useful in all kinds of situations

Raymond Cummings, Wednesday, 3 October 2012 12:17 (thirteen years ago)

the raver girl story is like the plot of a Mormon Chick Tract. All it needs is the devil luring the girl to the rave and saying, "HAW! HAW! HAW!"

Listen to this, dad (President Keyes), Wednesday, 3 October 2012 13:20 (thirteen years ago)

hahaha, love this analysis: http://www.nytimes.com/interactive/2012/10/02/us/politics/what-romney-and-obamas-body-language-says-to-voters.html?hp

Obama's Gestures
Mr. Obama uses a more controlled style than Mr. Romney does. While the force of his movements can prompt the viewer to support the argument put forth, controlled movements can also make the viewer feel that the path suggested would not be easy.

Waving a Ball - In this movement, the president moves his forearm in an arc from the elbow with his palm open, fingers slightly rounded, as if he were holding a baseball. He often uses this gesture when trying to pass along a belief that he wants the viewer to embrace.

Cutting - Mr. Obama often makes a downward chopping motion to place emphasis on an action verb. He has used this to convey a task that he or the viewer might undertake, as well as to sarcastically suggest something his opponent might do.

Pointer - This may be Mr. Obama’s most frequent gesture. Holding his hand in a fist with his thumb overlapping the first joint of the forefinger as if he were operating a remote control, he moves his forearm in an arc from the elbow, with emphasis on the downward motion.

Romney's Gestures
Mr. Romney’s body language is generally more free-flowing than Mr. Obama’s. Such movements can be infectious, encouraging the viewer to join with the speaker.

Pointer - This gesture is similar to Mr. Obama’s pointer movement, with the hand in a loose fist, except that Mr. Romney holds his thumb to the palm side of his forefinger. Mr. Romney also swings his forearm more freely than Mr. Obama does, a gesture that emphasizes strength of conviction.

Embrace - In this movement, Mr. Romney has both hands open, fingers loose, suggesting an imminent embrace. Both arms move up and down repeatedly in a motion that is both free-flowing and direct, conveying the idea that his logic is obvious to all.

Tilt and Nod - Mr. Romney often uses two head movements to punctuate an idea. In the first, Mr. Romney tilts his head to one side, with eyes open wide, as if to ask, “Don’t you agree with me?” In the second, he nods his head, a gesture that suggests, “Of course we agree.”

Thanks WEBSITE!! (Z S), Wednesday, 3 October 2012 13:25 (thirteen years ago)

romney's tilt and nod is by far his most defining move. if he happens to win, snl skits practically write themselves. just get some guy to make jokes about being rich and tilt and nod until you cannot tilt and nod anymore.

forget which of the thousand romney pieces mentioned this, but supposedly it was during the harried search for ecstasy girl that mitt first encountered the neighborhoods/living conditions of less wealthy americans.

he was then 49 years old

But all went better than expected, and Romney even left behind a $1.75 tip on an $18.25 tab.

fit and working again, Wednesday, 3 October 2012 16:03 (thirteen years ago)

I like the phrasing of that, where it's obvious he just passed over a $20 and said "keep the change" but it's making it sound like he counted out $18.25, then dug up a separate $1.75 and said "here, a tip 4 u"
