libertarians are fulfilling the function of conservatives since Burke: calling attention to contradictions and paradoxes in liberalism and the radical revolutionary party known as the GOP. I don't want them making policy -- I want them to support my points of view.

i do wonder what this race would look like if romney had embraced a paleo-con or vaguely libertarian foreign policy, esp considering how much of obama's initial support was based on his being 'right' on iraq while hillary was 'wrong'. i don't think all the applause eastwood got for 'why not bring em back from afghanistant tomorrow?' was purely ppl applauding any time he paused. also wonder what this race looks like if obama ignores petraeus and doesn't see if a surge can salvage afghanistan mission the way it salvaged iraq or what this race looks like if obama drastically speeds up drawdown timetable after bin laden raid.

i've always maintained ron paul was a useful guy to have around in congress because you could invariably expect him to vote the right way on civil liberties stuff (except he voted yes on the flag-burning amendment i think) and on anything else he usually just voted 'no' anyway. became a problem once he decided to run for pres and try to turn millions of college kids into goldbug loons.

wow hadn't looked at drudgereport in forever. it wasn't always this blatantly a party mouth piece (was once at least as nearly interested in getting a 'scoop', real or not). we shall see but if this: "BAMA DECLARES HOW POOR PEOPLE: 'Need help with basic skills, how to shop, how to show up for work on time, how to wear the right clothes, how to act appropriately in an office'... Developing..." is the scare quote i'm not sure this is gonna have the impact of the 47% clip. esp since he's been telling black youth to pull up their pants for as long as he's been a national figure and 'help poor ppl develop basic job skills' has been dem policy goal for a while. if anything at first glance this looks like what is referred to as a 'sister souljah moment'.

I adore how so much of this speech is a sensible appeal for health care reform, way to dig up the dirt RNC

lol conservatives i follow on twitter lolling at the idea of this as bombshell, picking out parts they actually agree with, pointing out that w/ heavy obv coordination between romney campaign and drudge this thing has almost certainly been a part of their debate prep. mind you says alot about the conservatives i follow (none have had a problem calling romney a disaster) but still nice to get some less biased sources suggesting this is not a game changer.

They're kicking the Wright thing around on CNN right now. It's laughable beyond words, and everyone except Leif Erickson is treating it as such. Obama's side should pray that Republicans try to make Wright front and center again.

gop genuinely convinced mccain not bringing up rev wright cost him election (which is laughable) but also as a corollary believe rev wright not brought up at all, 'obama never vetted', spring of 2008 and obama speech on race in philadelphia never happened, etc. but if they tell american ppl about it in 2012 (if the mainstream media will LET them) then election is in the bag.

1) Mitt Romney saved the life of a 14year old girl: Imagine what it would be like if we could have this kind of decisive people-centered leadership in the White House..

In 1998 the 14-year-old daughter of one of Romney's partners at Bain Capital, Robin Gay, had disappeared after attending a rave party in New York City. The distraught father was beside himself with terror of what may have happened to his little girl.

Upon hearing of this, Romney stopped all operations at Bain and flew himself and all of the company's employees to New York to conduct the search. Using his contacts with establishments in New York that did business with Bain and anoutlay of cash, Romney led a search for the girl from a command post he had set up in the LaGuardia Marriott that involved a private detective, Bain employees and customers putting up posters, handing out flyers, and interviewing prostitutes, drug addicts, and other street people in New York, and coordination with the New York Police.

A break came, after media publicity of the search, when a teenage boy called a tip line asking if there was a reward. He hung up, but not before the police traced the call to a home in New Jersey. The girl was found in the basement of the house undergoing withdrawals from a hit of ecstasy.

Romney, through his efforts, had saved the girl's life.
