The windiest militant trash (Michael White), Tuesday, 2 October 2012 15:40 (thirteen years ago)

What I'd really like to see is Rick Perry handle that question: "Mr. Obama, why does your autobiography state that you were born in Hawaii, yet raised in Hono--wait, that's not right. Sorry."

clemenza, Tuesday, 2 October 2012 16:32 (thirteen years ago)

Looks like voter ID law went down in PA.

As close to a Chomsky endorsement for Obama as we're likely to hear:

"Between the two choices that are presented, there is I think some significant differences," he said. "If I were a person in a swing state, I’d vote against Romney-Ryan, which means voting for Obama because there is no other choice. I happen to be in a non-swing state, so I can either not vote or - as a probably will - vote for [Green Party candidate] Jill Stein."

Does that mean that Chomsky is more reasonable than Morbs?

Moodles, Tuesday, 2 October 2012 17:46 (thirteen years ago)

the Balloon Juice folks destroyed Conor Friedersdorf last week for his Obama indictment.

Here's Digby on that Chomsky interview

It reminds me of that Lincoln quote:

"He can compress the most words into the smallest idea of any man I ever met."

That's an awesome quote.

noam chomsky stole that idea from me, as i am the only one who has ever thought of that

Would Jill Stein actually make a good president

pun lovin criminal (polyphonic), Tuesday, 2 October 2012 18:31 (thirteen years ago)

Jill Stein as a politician would presumably be eaten alive as president, under the present circumstances. But, under any circumstances where a green party candidate could actually win the presidency, there would be more than enough political support in congress for Jill Stein to have some success. You cannot jump to the end of that road in one leap.

The major task for the green party is to build up local support for filling local offices, like city councils, creating a reservoir of experienced candidates who can climb the ladder into state government.

Aimless, Tuesday, 2 October 2012 18:39 (thirteen years ago)

i thought that friedersdorf piece was fine except for the gary johnson endorsement. voting for incumbent obama means being at least kinda OK with some pretty horrible things, in a way that voting for candidate obama -- or for that matter candidates gore and kerry -- didn't.

under any circumstances where a green party candidate could win the presidency, a greenpartyish democrat would be in an even better position to win the presidency. that or 'the democratic party' would disappear and everyone would get a new colored name tag.

By the way, Rachel Maddow had a segment last night reporting that GOP voter registration efforts are zilch now in five of the ten or so swing states because the only firm they'd contracted to do it was the one now under investigation.

meanwhile the congressman in the district west of mine – one of the biggest dickbags in a state full of dickbags – is 10 points behind one of the most shameless political careerists in our county.

The GOP prepares for 2014.

I like the idea of a Jill Stien presidency

frogbs, Tuesday, 2 October 2012 19:18 (thirteen years ago)

Why? What is she like?

pun lovin criminal (polyphonic), Tuesday, 2 October 2012 19:19 (thirteen years ago)

In terms of strategy, it would probably be a hundred times easier to capture the dem party apparatus and leverage it than to build the green party up to a national level. So, I largely agree with iatee on that.

The one advantage of having a green party at all is to give a small, but clear voice to the radical perspective in US politics. The green party, as currently constituted, cannot be about winning elections for any electorate larger than about 1000 voters. So, it is much like the libertarian party in that respect.

Pure, concentrated wingnuttery. Right wing meme after right wing meme. Smugness combined with vapidity and ignorance. Birtherism. Racism. (Pay special attention to the woman at 3:00.)

"Strangle him!"

"Abomination."

"Islamist Marxist socialist . . . idiot."

"Go back to Kenya."

"Let's do target practice."

"Is that your Muslim communist buddy?"

I would happily lock all these people in a room and gas them to death, and enjoy a scrumptious root beer float afterwards.

The dupes of these lies are such an easy target, because they are dupes. I'd prefer to see The American Conservative track these lies to their sources and expose the much worse people who originate the lies, not the eejits who believe them.

is there a dumber/less clever slogan than "NOBAMA"?
