He could've been the first to be shuttled directly from office into the Hall of Presidents!

Old Lunch, Saturday, 29 September 2012 16:16 (thirteen years ago)

Yeah that'll...uh:

Mr. Romney’s team has concluded that debates are about creating moments and has equipped him with a series of zingers that he has memorized and has been practicing on aides since August. His strategy includes luring the president into appearing smug or evasive about his responsibility for the economy.

Ned Raggett, Saturday, 29 September 2012 16:22 (thirteen years ago)

"Hi there, aide, can I practice on you again?"

*to self* "Dear god no."

Ned Raggett, Saturday, 29 September 2012 16:22 (thirteen years ago)

"Go on, Mr. President. Pull it!"

pplains, Saturday, 29 September 2012 16:26 (thirteen years ago)

"You see, 47% of the time the president's wrong, and for the remaining 53% I'm right! Hahahah."

*crickets*

Ned Raggett, Saturday, 29 September 2012 16:30 (thirteen years ago)

"You're likeable enough, Mitt."

"THAT'S WHAT SHE SAID!"

pplains, Saturday, 29 September 2012 16:32 (thirteen years ago)

the preparing-some-zings strategy is pretty tragic. it means the best he can hope for from the debates is a round of applause from the michelle malkins, jonah goldbergs, etc. that is what he's goin' for. make the angry people at least feel like he went to bat for them.

Inconceivable (to the entire world) (underrated aerosmith bootlegs I have owned), Saturday, 29 September 2012 16:39 (thirteen years ago)

He appears to be the only person who thinks that $10,000 bet idea with Rick Perry was a good idea.

Ned Raggett, Saturday, 29 September 2012 16:43 (thirteen years ago)

i'm seriously hoping for some rope-a-dope here

da croupier, Saturday, 29 September 2012 16:47 (thirteen years ago)

Canned zingers--that'll work out great when Romney trots them out randomly, so they don't even make sense.

Obama: "I'm calling on Governor Romney to release his tax returns in full for the past 10 or 12 years, thereby meeting the standard that his own father established."

Jim Lehrer: "Governor Romney?"

Romney: "Bump in the road? More like the world's biggest pothole!"

clemenza, Saturday, 29 September 2012 17:12 (thirteen years ago)

Is this "zingers" thingthe closest he'll get to a concession before November? Place yer bets!

There was a point fairly late in the '08 race when McCain saw the writing on the wall and didn't seem to want it anymore. Romney seems to be approaching that point much more quickly.

Old Lunch, Saturday, 29 September 2012 17:17 (thirteen years ago)

Obama: "Governor Romney is promising to close loopholes to balance out the massive loss of revenue his proposed tax cuts will bring about, yet time and again he refuses to be specific as to which loopholes he'll close."

Jim Lehrer: "Governor Romney?"

Romney: "Sorry, what was the question? I was too busy clinging to my guns and religion to hear you! Ha....ha....ha."

clemenza, Saturday, 29 September 2012 17:24 (thirteen years ago)

Actually, avoiding anything resembling cogent argument/thought may be a really canny way to appeal to his base.

Ryan: "This just proves that iif you torture your statistics enough they'll confess to what you want to make them confess to."

Torturing stuff extracts desperate lies instead of The Truth? lol. Doesn't Ryan know that Romney has announced he'll start torturing terror suspects again? Get yer stories straight, fellas.

Paul Ryan railing about WELFARE today. Romney's 47% remarks were "an inarticulate way to describe what we're trying to do to create prosperity and upward mobility, and reduce dependency by getting people off welfare back to work.”

timellison, Monday, 1 October 2012 04:01 (thirteen years ago)

they already got people off of welfare. 2/3 of them.

MR: "There you go again!"

Probably not much of a surprise if it's already being reported that they are going to pursue this.
