"chronic Lyme" sounds like a potent strain of weed

Raymond Cummings, Friday, 28 September 2012 22:02 (thirteen years ago)

Chronic lyme, mailer sent, Romney wail
Diminish, a campaign poll of sorts

I hate to say the guy behind the unskewed polls thing is a bit of a stereotype but anyway.

unlike the nerds w/ computers, political scouts know that romney's got this in the bag

iatee, Friday, 28 September 2012 22:27 (thirteen years ago)

Why are these dumbshits so obsessed with the poll numbers? Like, if they're skewed in Obama's favor, isn't that a plus for you and your party in real-world terms? And if the numbers are correct, is fudging the stats in your favor really doing anything for you beyond pulling the band-aid off verrrrrry sloooooowwwwly?

Old Lunch, Friday, 28 September 2012 22:28 (thirteen years ago)

This has probably been posted somewhere on ILX by now, possibly even on this thread (don't feel like opening the whole thing):

Buried in the thousands of comments: "The Romney Campaign in 1 minute and 8 seconds."

Mitt doesn't really need your vote now - he's got the votes...

The windiest militant trash (Michael White), Friday, 28 September 2012 22:33 (thirteen years ago)

the poll obsession links up with other conspiracies: pollsters give skewed results to give cover to the media to call romney a loser which gives the democrat machines cover do voter fraud and steal the election and "make" the pollster/media lies true.

like you don't even have to go to the crazy end of conservative media to find this idea, it's on the marquee sites.

goole, Friday, 28 September 2012 22:47 (thirteen years ago)

They're really just rallying the troops. Don't give up! Go to the polls in November and we'll win!

nickn, Friday, 28 September 2012 22:49 (thirteen years ago)

NRO right now is pretty much what I hope for when I read it. Day to day discussions gingerly stepping around Romney's campaign's fetid corpse w/ good feelings and constructive criticism. Everyone seems a little strained, everything is forced. KLO slowly losing touch w/ reality posting rambling syntactically confused missives about abortions and freedom. The comments filled w/ pollster conspiracies and fears that 'obama will doom this country forever.'

Mordy, Friday, 28 September 2012 23:25 (thirteen years ago)

when did klo last have touch w/ reality

mookieproof, Friday, 28 September 2012 23:32 (thirteen years ago)

TALLAHASSEE — In audio picked up by an answering machine, a volunteer for the Republican Party of Clay County can be heard calling President Barack Obama “a Muslim” and saying he wants to “get rid of your Medicare” while reaching out to voters in support of Mitt Romney’s campaign.

The call was made as part of a statewide phone bank for Romney’s campaign being conducted by the Clay County GOP. The volunteer, who was not identified, did not hang up before moving onto her next call.

Her pitch to the next person was picked up on the first person’s answering machine.

“I don’t know if you have done any research on Obama or not, but he is a Muslim,” the woman said during the roughly 90-second call.

Leslie Dougher, head of the Clay GOP, said the party does not support the volunteer’s statements.

“It was off-script completely. We have everything scripted,” Dougher said. “Those are clearly not the views of the Republican Party of Clay County or the Mitt Romney campaign.”

The voicemail message was given to WMNF, a Tampa-area radio station that describes itself as “independent, progressive news and public affairs.” The station did not identify the source of the audio but said the person identified the Clay GOP’s number from caller ID.

“I received the call from a Polk County listener who said the recording was left on his answering machine,” said Rob Lorei, who aired the audio Wednesday on a show he hosts.

The volunteer also told the person on the other end of the line that Obama wants to turn the United States into “a socialistic country” and that he would the federal program that provides health insurance for people older than 65.

“Ya’ll sound like ya’ll are seniors citizens, right?” the volunteer said. “You really don’t want Obama because he will get rid of your Medicare … say goodbye to it.”

Dougher said the volunteer was counseled about that call but she wasn’t sure if the woman was still making calls. Dougher also questioned the legality of playing audio after the volunteer was unaware they were being recorded.

“Can you air a recording like that?” she asked. “If not, I would question a station playing something like that illegally.”

Lorei said the decision to play the audio was an easy one to make.

“This listener tells me that he frequently gets calls from the GOP,” he said. “His answering machine did what answering machines do when a person is not there to pick up the phone, it recorded the phone call.”

Obama wants to turn the United States into a socialistic country by... taking away the one major part of our government that is closest to socialism?

Von Ryan's Reassurance Express:

On the Phone, Ryan Reassures the Right

Paul Ryan has a new mission: reassuring conservative pundits.

In the past week, the Republican veep has called several conservative commentators. In those conversations, he has expressed confidence about the Republican ticket’s chances, fielded questions, and asked for frank assessments.

Ryan has made the calls one by one from the trail. The private press talks, which are ongoing, have often been lengthy and candid.

Sources close to the Romney campaign tell National Review Online that Ryan has reached out to George F. Will, the Washington Post columnist; Paul Gigot, the editor of the Wall Street Journal editorial page; and CNBC’s Larry Kudlow, among others.

After weeks of mounting criticism from conservatives, Ryan reportedly felt compelled to respond in a friendly way to the Beltway buzz.

Republicans familiar with the calls say Ryan’s tone has been positive and upbeat, but he has acknowledged that the campaign has made some missteps.

A source close to the Romney campaign says the calls simply reflect Ryan’s warm relationships with many conservative media figures.

suuuuure.

Second thoughts on the 47% video:

If you scroll back to when the video first appeared--I can't right now, I'm on a library computer that will surely freeze--I think a few of us guessed that this did feel different from most of these non-stories.

Old Lunch, Saturday, 29 September 2012 16:16 (thirteen years ago)

Yeah that'll...uh:

Mr. Romney’s team has concluded that debates are about creating moments and has equipped him with a series of zingers that he has memorized and has been practicing on aides since August. His strategy includes luring the president into appearing smug or evasive about his responsibility for the economy.

Ned Raggett, Saturday, 29 September 2012 16:22 (thirteen years ago)

"Hi there, aide, can I practice on you again?"

*to self* "Dear god no."

"You're likeable enough, Mitt."

"THAT'S WHAT SHE SAID!"

pplains, Saturday, 29 September 2012 16:32 (thirteen years ago)

the preparing-some-zings strategy is pretty tragic. it means the best he can hope for from the debates is a round of applause from the michelle malkins, jonah goldbergs, etc. that is what he's goin' for. make the angry people at least feel like he went to bat for them.

Inconceivable (to the entire world) (underrated aerosmith bootlegs I have owned), Saturday, 29 September 2012 16:39 (thirteen years ago)

He appears to be the only person who thinks that $10,000 bet idea with Rick Perry was a good idea.

Ned Raggett, Saturday, 29 September 2012 16:43 (thirteen years ago)

i'm seriously hoping for some rope-a-dope here

da croupier, Saturday, 29 September 2012 16:47 (thirteen years ago)

Canned zingers--that'll work out great when Romney trots them out randomly, so they don't even make sense.

Obama: "I'm calling on Governor Romney to release his tax returns in full for the past 10 or 12 years, thereby meeting the standard that his own father established."

Jim Lehrer: "Governor Romney?"

Romney: "Bump in the road? More like the world's biggest pothole!"
