thumbs down on the Wild Arugula salad bags, they go bad waay before the date

thumbs up on Banana Bread mix, light and banana-y not too sweet

I'm intrigued re: flower pepper now

btw TJ's is recalling all its Valencia peanut/almond butters: http://www.traderjoes.com/about/customer-updates-responses.asp?i=86

I bought like 5 PBs during the peanut shortage last year so I am preparing myself for some serious sideeye when I return them all

musically, Thursday, 27 September 2012 16:26 (thirteen years ago)

Argh, that's my peanut butter!

look at this quarterstaff (Hurting 2), Thursday, 27 September 2012 16:29 (thirteen years ago)

I have an open one in the fridge right now and another two in the cabinet. Guess I'm not sick yet, at least.

A friend claims to have been sick all year, mysteriously, and is willing to pin it on the peanut butter. I wouldn't take my chances, personally.

Doctor Casino, Thursday, 27 September 2012 16:34 (thirteen years ago)

oh for sure I'm taking them back for a refund. Fuck, the other day we were just saying how maybe the baby would like peanut butter. Luckily we had the crunchy kind in the house so we weren't going to give her any.

Imma look for the pepper and salt varieties at other locations, too, because where I was on Monday was out of like half of the inventory. They actually had signs up across the entire produce refrig case saying, "Please forgive us, we're restocking," and it was completely empty.

that peanut butter mnfctr just sent out a huge ADDENDUM to the recall list... it's scary (and not just TJs)

I've definitely polished off at least 5 jars of TJ's peanut butter within the last year : (

barthes simpson, Monday, 8 October 2012 21:19 (thirteen years ago)

Isn't it a salmonella outbreak? If so, you haven't been ill so dr. mh rates you a-ok

ɥɯ ︵ (°□°) (mh), Monday, 8 October 2012 21:29 (thirteen years ago)

who knows what low-level havoc the disease hath wrought

barthes simpson, Monday, 8 October 2012 21:31 (thirteen years ago)

wow http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1984_Rajneeshee_bioterror_attack

barthes simpson, Monday, 8 October 2012 21:33 (thirteen years ago)

iirc salmonella does high-level havoc, then typically is gone within a few days

I asked my checkout guy today about the fallout from the peanut thing, and he said that there have been a steady stream of returns, but not much outright hysteria. I was a little disappointed, but maybe he just didn't want to dish about customers. I guess that's the right thing to do.

these albatrosses have no fear of man (La Lechera), Monday, 8 October 2012 21:40 (thirteen years ago)

if he showed any signs of not being completely happy they would have to fire him on the spot

iatee, Monday, 8 October 2012 21:41 (thirteen years ago)

pretty sure it was salmonella I got sick with one time, would not recommend

ɥɯ ︵ (°□°) (mh), Monday, 8 October 2012 21:42 (thirteen years ago)

hey guy i saw that you furrowed your brow briefly, mind if we have a chat in the stockroom

x-post re: Rajneeshee bio attack

...Sheela was deported, and went on to run two nursing homes in Switzerland

Say what now?

Also, the getting out of jail after 29 months wouldn't happen now.

nickn, Monday, 8 October 2012 22:21 (thirteen years ago)

Everyone should just eat the chunky skippy I get. Sweet and delicious

I'm too lazy right now - and maybe dumb - to figure out that abstract about the protective effects of alcohol against salmonella. Esp. b/c it says Conclusion: We discuss the possible protective effect of alcoholic beverages in some food-borne infectious outbreaks. Does seem to work, or no?

At least it explains why once at the seafood restaurant I worked at a guy ordered a shot of tequila after downing a rotten oyster at lunch. I thought he was just really shaken.

Not going to reload it now, but basically with a good-sized dose of alcohol, food poisoning chance was cut by about 20%

ɥɯ ︵ (°□°) (mh), Tuesday, 9 October 2012 03:53 (thirteen years ago)

Not enough for beneficial drinking over other life choices. Don't get ideas, Je55e. :)

:/ Guess I'll put all that chicken back in the fridge and return this Stoli.

these "inner peas" are basically cheetos made with peas and are as delicious as cheetos, but also feel gross like cheetos after eating too many, but i wish they were called "peatos" instead of "inner peas" c'mon "inner peas" you guys? cornnny.

Philip Nunez, Tuesday, 9 October 2012 18:47 (thirteen years ago)

Pito - slang

Literal Meaning: whistle
Meaning: dick; cock

Example: Eh, por ahí va tu amigo del pito chiquito. (Hey, there goes your friend with the little dick.)

Reduced Guilt Kettle Potato Chips are amazing. They need to make a salt and vinegar version!

Lechera, I looked at a well-stocked location for BOTH smoked salt and flower pepper and...I do not have good news.

purveyor of generations (in orbit), Sunday, 14 October 2012 22:11 (thirteen years ago)

I emailed the company website and begged.

purveyor of generations (in orbit), Sunday, 14 October 2012 22:15 (thirteen years ago)

my stock of the lemur tea is almost depleted :/

sarahell, Sunday, 14 October 2012 22:30 (thirteen years ago)

DUDE, THEY ALREADY REPLIED AND SAID OUR FAVE ITEMS WERE DISCONTINUED DUE TO SLOW SALES but that my request was being forwarded to the appropriate buyer because she said, "...with enough demand -- you never know."

So basically tell everyone in your life to email the company from the web contact thingy immediately if not sooner.

purveyor of generations (in orbit), Monday, 15 October 2012 00:12 (thirteen years ago)

I did stockpile a bunch of the smoked salt at one point in fear of this!!

The Most Typical and Popular Girl Rider (Crabbits), Monday, 15 October 2012 01:36 (thirteen years ago)

I have heard it through the grapevine that they have pumpkin macarons this year. Can anyone confirm or deny this and report on their deliciousness?

(✿◠‿◠) (ENBB), Monday, 15 October 2012 01:38 (thirteen years ago)

I saw them there about 2 weeks ago.

svend, Monday, 15 October 2012 01:40 (thirteen years ago)

i have seen them but not bought them.

sriracha bishop (get bent), Monday, 15 October 2012 01:40 (thirteen years ago)

You can buy smoked salt at regular grocery stores, IME.

I shoplifted some in 1995.

(*・_・)ノ⌒ ☆ (Je55e), Monday, 15 October 2012 03:01 (thirteen years ago)

At which time I also shoplifted the first goat cheese I ever ate.
