Good luck, first season's a mixed bag.

Yeah it's kinda slow to get going - hang in there for the first 4 or 5 eps, it'll start to pick up from about the halfway mark.

It picks up a bit when Harrow is introduced! But yeah, even then it's really hit or miss. I plowed through the first two seasons a couple weeks ago and can barely remember what happened in season 1.

what did people think of last night's?

this show sort of trundles along for me without ever being amazing but i kinda enjoy it. the margaret storylines are really annoying tho, partly cos of her horrendous simpering irish accent but also just cos her entire character seems increasingly pointless.

I would have agreed with that entirely prior to the final few eps of s2. And this season is displaying considerable evidence of being the strongest so far. I'm totally digging Gyp.

Glad they seem to have wrapped up Margaret's woman's clinic storyline already, though presumably it will dovetail into an equally tedious affair with that doctor fellow.

I don't know if I've ever seen the super-prickly thin-skinned gangster archetype carried to such an extreme before. Lovely contrast to Nucky's pragmatism. (re gyp)

Really cleverly done that they completely hoodwinked you into thinking that kid was going to become a regular character.

I dunno, he was a good character but in retrospect it seems that he was always heading towards destruction. I think it's great that shows nowadays are willing to sacrifice very major characters for the sake of a dynamic storyline.

Yeah, that was really well done with the kid. At one point he flashed a smile that reminded me a lot of Michael Pitt and I was set in the, "oh Nucky is going to adopt this kid, isn't he?" mode. Oops.

The only time I've been getting confused wrt characters lately is the subplot with Lucky Luciano.

yeah that's the one I'm unsure of, though the al johnny torio stuff is confusing too. I also couldn't remember Nucky's stuff being robbed by that kid.

Her accent annoys me considerably, I can't imagine the effect it must have on an Irishman such as yourself.

it's the worst irish accent i've ever heard, i think. it also infects the character and stops any other feeling coming through apart from the simpering of the accent.

I also find her over-perfect grammar pretty irritating.

PS You've obviously never heard my attempt at an Irish accent.

I like how Van Alden's thread is kid of developing into a pitch black farce. Much better use of him than sitting in an apartment with a screaming baby and the most annoying woman in the world.

I'm an episode behind -- goddamn the scenes with Capone and his little son got me good and teary. Dang.

I mightve mentioned this before but despite ODing on the Sopranos p much simultaneously as watching this I still didn't recognise Uncle Jun for nearly the whole of season 1

like does she really think she's that kid's mom or is she just hoping that if she says it enough it'll ~become reality~. same thing with jimmy being not being dead - if she just believes it hard enough maybe he'll come home some day.
