It doesn't say whether his page/the comments were public... quite an important distinction in cases like this I would've thought?

Why is facebook showing me Suggested Post to like in my feed, things that have nothing to do with anything I like or anyone I know? Are ads making there way into the feed?
― JacobSanders, Monday, 8 October 2012 22:22 (eleven years ago) link
yes.

another privacy issue thingy: I tagged a couple of friends in a photo recently, and a random person liked it, but this random person isn't on my friends list, and isn't connected to either of the people I tagged. My photos have been set to "friends only". What am I missing?
― Roz, Tuesday, 30 October 2012 02:38 (eleven years ago) link
Friend could have shared it to public
― stet, Tuesday, 30 October 2012 02:39 (eleven years ago) link
Nope, neither of them did. :/
― Roz, Tuesday, 30 October 2012 02:40 (eleven years ago) link
Do they even have to share it for it to show up?
I had one asshole tag one of my friends on a Mitt Romney pic and it showed up on the feed of everyone who knew my friend.
― pplains, Tuesday, 30 October 2012 02:58 (eleven years ago) link
Yeah, thing is, I wouldn't be surprised if it was someone either of my friends knew. But this was just some random dude.
― Roz, Tuesday, 30 October 2012 03:29 (eleven years ago) link
This happened to me. Friends' friend can see what they're tagged in. I think tagging overrides 'friends only' setting.
― kinder, Tuesday, 30 October 2012 08:08 (eleven years ago) link
Oh wait, they're not even friends with them? I dunno in that case

someday FB's sloppiness with privacy settings will probably get someone killed by a jealous ex or a stalker and the public backlash will be so great that FB knocks all this off.

lol, i understand the company's basic business model. i just don't understand how that business model is helped by advertising a TN-based oil change company on my Philly FB page! also why they're called Express Lube.

What would you expect a company called "Express Lube" to be? It's almost the exact same name as its genericized-trademark-named cousin "Jiffy Lube."
