Is there any possible way to do iOS 5 on a new iPhone 5? Because roughly 2/3 of the reason I would like to go back to smartphone land from this shitty GoPhone is to have transit maps (I am a carless New Yorker atm).

i have an ipad 1 and an 8gb iphone 4 and i keep having nightmares that my phones completely obsolete now

the late great, Saturday, 22 September 2012 07:04 (thirteen years ago)

I forgot about the iPad 1 thing. It's a pisser, because it means you can't iMessage from your phone number on those.

this would be a pisser if imessage weren't a worhtless piece o crap.

i cant figure out how to use it to send texts to friends with iPhones

the late great, Saturday, 22 September 2012 08:34 (thirteen years ago)

it should be automatic (when you try and send a regular text) if they've got it switched on? but i switched it off and recommend everyone do the same since a messaging system that is known to often fail to deliver messages without any error or notification is worse than useless.

ledge, Saturday, 22 September 2012 08:45 (thirteen years ago)

iMessage has never failed on me tbf.

JimD, Saturday, 22 September 2012 10:17 (thirteen years ago)

Happened to me once, once is enough. And how do you know, anyway! Maybe someone sent you a message that never got through that they never told you about.

ledge, Saturday, 22 September 2012 10:37 (thirteen years ago)

Texts are close to unlimited on most iPhone plans in the UK anyway. The only thing I like about iMessage is being able to see when the other person has started typing a reply.

Alba, Saturday, 22 September 2012 13:02 (thirteen years ago)

I really like being able to send and receive on the mac, using my phone number.

stet, Saturday, 22 September 2012 15:48 (thirteen years ago)

I use iMessage all the time

Nhex, Saturday, 22 September 2012 16:56 (thirteen years ago)

passbook still doesn't work. 'can't connect to itunes store' error for days now. that setting-the-time-ahead-a-year-and-back-again trick does nothing. what i am trying to say here is lol.

Autumn Almanac, Sunday, 23 September 2012 00:38 (thirteen years ago)

oh god, that link

Autumn Almanac, Sunday, 23 September 2012 00:38 (thirteen years ago)

just looking at a gallery of pics of people celebrating buying the iphone, all the genuses are arrayed in a gauntlet cheering them on, real weird shit

lag∞n, Sunday, 23 September 2012 00:56 (thirteen years ago)

Wow, that actually is kinda like

3. The rep then encourages you to open your iPhone and shares in your excitement.

It's late and I'm drunk, but that link really upset me. How can a person have lived in such a fucking vacuum that this is such a big deal to him? I really want to track down the at&t store guy and just give him a little hug for dealing with a shit job he probably hates like any normal person would. Fuck these coddled overgrown grubery cunts.

sktsh, Sunday, 23 September 2012 01:31 (thirteen years ago)

Although I can see why he thinks apple owes him.

sktsh, Sunday, 23 September 2012 01:40 (thirteen years ago)

when I got my 4, I picked it up at the store and the sales rep tried to behave as if he was guiding me through a religious experience, to the point where he placed the box in front of me and encouraged me to open it, then wanted me to sit there and bask in the phone's glory

I basically looked at him like he was insane and plugged the phone into his laptop so I could set it up and get the fuck out of there; this time I'm having it delivered so I don't have to deal with that shit (though it's not getting here until October; fair trade-off IMO)

ppl like the dude who wrote that blog are the fucking worst and if I could figure out how to make money punching them all in the face while singing I would have discovered my dream job

when I got my first ipad from an apple store, the bloke who served me was ~properly creepy~, to the point that I had to encourage him to settle the fuck down

tbf its more of a pocket computer than a phone, so its understandable

cake-like Lady Gaga (DJP), Sunday, 23 September 2012 03:51 (thirteen years ago)

that guy is being totally overdramatic, but i partially agree with what he's saying in that a big part of the Apple fetish is their boxing. but expecting the sales guy to watch you open the package and beam good vibrations is hilarious

Nhex, Sunday, 23 September 2012 06:03 (thirteen years ago)

Apple store dude tried to do that with my iPad 1. And dropped it. Can't imagine how this guy would have handled that

stet, Sunday, 23 September 2012 11:27 (thirteen years ago)

In 1997 when I went into GAME and said "I'd like an N64 with Mariokart and Mario64 please" the lad behind the counter tried to give me a high five. I'm afraid left him hanging.

very probably, if they're having to meet insane targets of 4867438378953 units per day

Autumn Almanac, Monday, 24 September 2012 10:25 (thirteen years ago)

i don't understand how they can despoil the excitement like this

stet, Monday, 24 September 2012 10:26 (thirteen years ago)

fwiw I think they'll all scuff and ultimately just look loved/worn like the old ipods xp

Autumn Almanac, Monday, 24 September 2012 10:26 (thirteen years ago)

mine was fine out of the box, one or two tiny tiny barely perceptible dings on the top, but tbh I could have done those myself
