the sour shoes appearance was wonderful and sad. lisa g made him orgasm by touching his shoulders. he talked about going to gary's dad's funeral. wound up hanzi with a gary impression. he explained that he got hit by a fastball when he was a kid and started having "weird thoughts" after. but he seems superficially pretty normal. he's fit in well, riffing on lines from howard. and it's cool to hear howard's genuine fascination with him. i dunno.
calstars, your thoughts?
― dylannn, Sunday, 30 September 2012 07:58 (thirteen years ago)
sour shoes was funnier and faster than shuli, for sure. shuli has a history of bringing the show to a grinding halt (see: shuli getting emotional after artie refers to the killers of comedy as the "hackpack").

As far as I can tell, Sour is on the autistic spectrum somewhere, evidenced by his difficulty with interaction (voices, never having had a relationship), his ability to recall facts, and musical talent. He also said he works at a place called 'Autism Speaks.' And on the top of one of his keyboard he had a Thomas the Tank toy, a favorite of children on the spectrum.

The JD/Jason fight (Howard TV version) was so hard to watch. JD has gained weight and looks stressed out.

oh my god Steve I'm really busy can I call you right back?
― calstars, Sunday, 30 September 2012 14:27 (thirteen years ago)
Watching that Artie/Shuli clip just reminds me of how much Artie brought to the show.

because keyboards and soft rock?
― dylannn, Tuesday, 2 October 2012 03:52 (thirteen years ago)
I think so, the fuzziness of cheap gear and the ramdom way that he slows down in the middle of a song or changes suddenly to another, maybe it's more Ariel Pink.
― Pat Ast vs Jean Arp (MaresNest), Tuesday, 2 October 2012 10:46 (thirteen years ago)
Why the hell is Shuli sitting in the chair? He doesn't belong there.
― calstars, Monday, 5 November 2012 17:22 (thirteen years ago)
i never got benjy and he brings next to nothing to the table as an on-air personality (hard to judge his talents as a writer, since a lot is done behind the scenes, right? so, i'm giving him the benefit of the doubt). shuli just doesn't get the rhythm of the show, has a grating personality, isn't quick on his feet on-air, and his voice annoys me.
is robin back in the studio for the recent shows?
― dylannn, Tuesday, 6 November 2012 09:47 (thirteen years ago)
i can watch artie ripping shuli in that clip over and over and overand over again.
he claims, "i've been doing standup for 13 years." :(
"wow, shuli's like a chick."
― dylannn, Tuesday, 6 November 2012 09:50 (thirteen years ago)
Robin is still home and there was a great moment from 10/31 when Robin screamed at Richard I WAS HERE A WEEK AFTER A 12 HOUR OPERATION
― calstars, Tuesday, 6 November 2012 13:47 (thirteen years ago)
see, that's why i wondered. she kept talking about being there....
same show, i think, howard was talking about how he had gotten an isdn line ready to do the show during the storm, just in case. how about this? let everyone stay at home. conference call it.
― dylannn, Tuesday, 6 November 2012 15:59 (thirteen years ago)
ISDN would work fine I think. I was lucky enough to hear their live test, about 5 years ago, around 7 or 8 at night. Everyone was on, even Artie. Sounded just like the regular show.

The Wrap Up show is just too short, it's often much better than the actual show, the JD/Jason situation and the fallout from the What Annoys You Most About Howard game, for instance.

i hate gary on the radio. i hate when he runs into the studio to ask a guest some useless fucking question. i hate the lame jokes about him. i hate his voice on the dumb microphone in his office. i hate jon hein. i hate any show that allows steve brandano to broadcast his voice. i hate the black keys.
but i love hearing jd.
and i still listen to the wrap up show. but that's where i draw the line. no intern show or back room radio or whatever the hell they've got now.

i can't get enough of sour shoes doing gary, riffing on his playlist song intros, his noines, referencing obscure promotional events from the late-80s.

Howard peeing in the bathroom on Monday - trying to follow the caller's advice on how to get rid of the dribble - with the remote mic was pretty funny.

i seriously just watched the stuttering john vs. cabbie fight for the first time.
i knew the outcome and i think i listened to the audio. but what a great fight. no matter what john is up to now, i hope he's doing okay. (and i think he's like a fake writer for leno, still... so good luck with that)

okay my favorite thing this week was coming out of a tradio call, playing "legs" and hitting the post, then doing drops for every radio station ever. "southern new england's best rock. come on, everybody. 24 days until the world ends. let's try to give some tickets away. YEAHHH comin at you. i'm johnny dark."

two great interviews from this week. they both start out normally and gradually you find out 1) dave attell hasn't gotten laid in a year and spends "night and day" working on a vintage porn show, watching porn all day and jerking off ~3 times a day https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1GJr1LCJ6K0, and 2) fred armisen is a horrible boyfriend https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZXI6gkoRzwg

Just had a quick look on Amazon, true to form the SFN types are brutal in the reviews section.
What's the show like at the minute? I've been listening to the odd one, maybe once a month, just checking in. It still seems so dry without another comedian in the room. I might not ever click back in, is Robin still broadcasting from home/ill?
― MaresNest, Saturday, 22 June 2013 20:23 (thirteen years ago)
It is pretty great that it has only sold 28 copies in June on Amazon so far. I can't stand her.
