side note: I passed a Kia Soul on the freeway today and have decided that Kia's design aesthetic is 'make all our cars look like they are inflatable'

It looks like a real-life animated car

The most innovative safety feature, which has not been incorporated into other cars, was the ability to swivel the seats to face rearwards should a collision seem imminent.[1]

set the controls for the heart of the sun (VegemiteGrrl), Friday, 21 September 2012 22:45 (thirteen years ago)

Haha!

Johnny Fever, Friday, 21 September 2012 22:48 (thirteen years ago)

I was just gonna say that car would immediately look better if they just flipped it around. but the swivel seats confirm that somebody was a bit confused.

The weird bugout windshield is the thing that gets me, even more than the scoop bumper on the front. Also, SIX headlights.

Johnny Fever, Friday, 21 September 2012 22:56 (thirteen years ago)

appaz the bugout windshield was so ppl didn't bang their heads in an acident -- and the scoop bumper is made of foam

totally a safety car

hence it's ugliness, lol (ie cf Volvo)

CRAZY VACLAV'S PLACE OF AUTOMOBILES 'She'll go 3000 hectares on a single tank of kerosene'

'Put it in H!'

oh wait, different car

but still, my favorite Simpsons moment

set the controls for the heart of the sun (VegemiteGrrl), Friday, 21 September 2012 23:22 (thirteen years ago)

"What country is this car from?" "It...no longer exists."

Love that scene. Every time I give my friend a ride (who shares my Simpsons obsession), when we get in the car he says, "Put it in H!" And when we get out he says, "Remember: were in the Itchy lot."

It seems to be a thing these days to give cars fat arses with sticky-out lights, and this Lexus is the worst. Also the wheels don't seem to fit the size of the car, but I'm not sure if they're too big or too small, they just look wrong.

Imagine being the person who thought this would look good

and then having to carry on seeing your handiwork in the wild and being all 'yep, I did well that day'.

Stewart D or Raheem? (useless chamber), Friday, 21 September 2012 23:48 (thirteen years ago)

Wouldn't it have been easier to just take a picture of someone taking a dump on an 1800ES? Because designing and manufacturing a shitty "homage" is a really inefficient way of achieving the same result.

^^I think the first recent re-occurance of tail-lights needlessly sticking out from the body.

I quite like the C30 but also I think what is the point?

I saw the most disgusting bodykit on a Mercedes CLS recently but thankfully I can't find anything on GIS that's remotely like it.

Stewart D or Raheem? (useless chamber), Friday, 21 September 2012 23:57 (thirteen years ago)

Those toyota vans are kind of cool imo, i was just down in Costa Rica and you still see a lot of those down there. my first car arguably ugly but i still love it. those hubcaps were expensive.

I like that Lexus hatch, and I typically think all Lexuses are gross.

Johnny Fever, Saturday, 22 September 2012 00:20 (thirteen years ago)

I agree that the Volvo "reimagine" of the 1800es is barfy, though.

i hate you all for making me notice every single new car with stick-outy tailight design on my drive home

wondering how this post went uncommented upon

Thank you, Mazda, for not even bothering to market that car in America.

Although, my favorite car I've ever had was a 323 Wagon that looked something like this:

http://i38.tinypic.com/2u89ys1.jpg

...except it wasn't beat all to hell, had alloy wheels and a sunroof.

BMW 600

This is what a Bimmer looked like in 1959:

Not sure which is worse: how hideous it looked, or the contortions necessary just to get in the thing:

1976 Chevrolet Monte Carlo. Lest anyone miss it otherwise, let's use a second paint color to further accentuate the misshapen lump on the fenders

Apparently any BMW 'X' model is a fugly bulbous SUV wannabe. All SUVs are gross but these really offend me.

WTH is it about those Nissan mini-SUVs that causes them to be owned by the most lazy wankers imaginable? A couple of weeks ago I was walking past the corner shop when one pulled up outside, and a fairly young guy got out and went into the shop. I kept walking down the road, and a couple of minutes later I was passing the office of a small ad exec/marketing, when this same Nissan came up and parked in one of the spaces out front. Same guy gets out, and for a second he looked at me before scurrying sheepishly inside. I didn't say anything, but I suppose I did have a look on my face that said "WTF? why didn't you just walk?"

I internally (and externally to my gf) refer to hatchback-turned-SUV drivers collectively as "Muranos". Especially when they zoom by on the right when traffic is backed up and then wedge their way back in.

they're annoying. that over-stuffed thing. subconsciously they make me think of bloated consumer culture or something radical like that. like a car that ate too much on thanksgiving.
