Oh I do weep:

Republicans have long resisted tax increases of any kind. But taxes are a major battleground in the campaign between Obama and Republican Mitt Romney, Capitol Hill veterans say, and the victor will be able to claim a mandate for his policies.

“This is a referendum on taxes,” said Rep. Tom Cole (R-Okla.), a senior member of the House Budget Committee. “If the president wins reelection, taxes are going up” for the nation’s wealthiest households, and “there’s not a lot we can do about that.”

Ned Raggett, Friday, 21 September 2012 14:52 (thirteen years ago)

lol at slipping for the nation’s wealthiest households in there

The Bowles-Simpson deficit reduction plan produced by President Obama's deficit commission

there is no Bowles-Simpson deficit reduction plan. there was a proposal for a plan, but the commission voted to reject it. therefore no plan. yet you always hear about this magical "plan" or "report" that everyone is ignoring for some reason!!

TracerHandVEVO (Tracer Hand), Friday, 21 September 2012 15:04 (thirteen years ago)

thats whats so good abt it

lag∞n, Friday, 21 September 2012 15:05 (thirteen years ago)

I'm not sure if men like Coburn are showing their hands, waving the white flag, trying to encourage GOP enthusiasm for Mittens, or all the above.

taking tiger mountain (up the butt) (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Friday, 21 September 2012 15:11 (thirteen years ago)

Tracer: the plan exists so that way Andrew Sullivan has something to hold on to in this drab grey world.

Ned Raggett, Friday, 21 September 2012 15:21 (thirteen years ago)

I have a friend, who actively campaigned for Obama yet nonetheless keeps praising Ryan's budget plan (he's a banker, so ...). Anyway, I have to keep reminding him that there is no Ryan plan. There was just his symbolic dosier hey through together to get immediately slapped down by everyone. And even then, he's backed away from his ideas to suit Mitt's non-ideas.

Man, whether it was ego or ignorance, Ryan's idea to hitch his train to the Mitt wagon was such bad strategy. Rather than set him up for 2016, this fiasco is going to set him back.

Josh in Chicago, Friday, 21 September 2012 16:15 (thirteen years ago)

yeah but also ryan has make himself look bad

lag∞n, Friday, 21 September 2012 16:16 (thirteen years ago)

not with that body fat ratio!

taking tiger mountain (up the butt) (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Friday, 21 September 2012 16:17 (thirteen years ago)

haha I was gonna make that joke

cake-like Lady Gaga (DJP), Friday, 21 September 2012 16:17 (thirteen years ago)

That Mitt magic is rubbing off on Ryan. He looks bad for denigrating his own ideas for the sake of a unified front, but then he also looks bad covering for Mitt's mess-ups.

Josh in Chicago, Friday, 21 September 2012 16:19 (thirteen years ago)

Ryan has no ideas

Mr. Que, Friday, 21 September 2012 16:20 (thirteen years ago)

It's not only not worth a pitcher of warm piss but if you lose your bid to be veep, you're most likely dead to most ppl.

idk, i don't think people really hold politicians' feet to the fire over that kinda thing. it maybe more just hurts the idea of his perceived singularity, which was probably a selling point, & means that he will no longer be eligible to use RENEGADE in his eventual autobiography title

let's get the banned back together (schlump), Friday, 21 September 2012 16:22 (thirteen years ago)

I intend to brazenly appropriate this

Rogue, maverick, and renegade can't be used. He'll have to settle for 'crank'.

The windiest militant trash (Michael White), Friday, 21 September 2012 16:23 (thirteen years ago)

or "loser"

I scream, you scream, we all scream for lies-cream.

(Of course, jokes on us when Mitt wins. I have a hunch the right wing is this close to cracking the mystery of Obama's heritage, their best bet at an upset)

Josh in Chicago, Friday, 21 September 2012 16:26 (thirteen years ago)

Here comes ol' White Ears Romney. How's it going, White Ears?

All right, so my GIS of Anita Ward was bringing back pictures of Palin, so apparently, I'm not as cleverly original as I thought.

pplains, Friday, 21 September 2012 16:40 (thirteen years ago)

i think ryan might be able to pull some narrative about mitt muzzling him but if wisconsin gets sick of him (i dunno about his district but the state poll numbers are eek) he loses his chance to be the post-ronpaul newt gingrich and may have to settle for being a fiscal santorum or a lobbyist or the star of a weight-training infomercial.

da croupier, Friday, 21 September 2012 16:50 (thirteen years ago)

he was pulled out of the oven too quickly so it's really a matter of whether he gets to back in the oven

a fiscal santorum
