The “South Park” controversy, which came up numerous times during the talk and question-and-answer session, stems from two episodes that aired earlier this month, which lampooned “Family Guy” and included a scene where its writers are depicted as manatees.
ntroducing MacFarlane, Director of the ASSU Speakers Bureau Adam Kahn, a graduate student in communication, expressed gratitude for the fortunate timing of the event.
“Four days ago our speaker was accused of being a manatee,” he said. “After dinner, I can assure you that he’s not a manatee.”
MacFarlane took his show’s criticism with the candor of a fellow satirist.
“They shit on everybody like we do,” he said, adding that to cry foul would be “hypocritical.”

These cartoons get embarrassing when you detect a sense of pretension from them. Especially F.G. though as (as someone else mentioned on a blog posted here recently) it's humor, while potentially hilarious, is no more sophisticated or funny than that of a typical YTMND.
The absurd + "pseudo-offensiveness" + 80s pop culture = WIN and GOLD. And, as if this needed to be mentioned, having a cult college audience in America in no way correlates you with the "thinking crowd." That implication needs to stop.

Not quite as nuanced as Cartoon Wars, but not without its charm.

Yeah, the Towelie/Oprah one sounded like it could be a good one, but it was painfully unfunny. Those guys are losing it.

Also, all the Cartman parts were way good.
They've almost redeemed themselves with this one, in my book...though I guess the "season" is over now? After a lousy six frickin episodes?!

They must have a fat contract...which is fine by me...though I hope they take advantage of the leisure time to do more films in the vein of Team America.

Either way, it seems kinda paltry to me...but maybe I am just greedy!
A mere four weeks-worth of new material- is that a standard for most programs these days? I don't really keep up with these things, but it seems on the slight side to me. I'm imagining that the average network drama or sitcom produces closer to twenty or so...and I'm also guessing that 15-20 years ago that number was even higher.

South Park" episode said to have angered Tom Cruise up for an Emmy
NORTH HOLLYWOOD, Calif. One of the Emmy nominees for best animated program is the episode of "South Park" that's said to have angered Tom Cruise and Isaac Hayes.
The episode called "Trapped in the Closet" implies that Cruise is gay and makes fun of Scientology.
Cruise's fellow Scientologist Isaac Hayes reportedly quit because he was upset with the episode. And when it came time to rerun it, Cruise allegedly called Comedy Central and demanded that it be pulled. It was, even though Cruise's people denied he asked for it.

"Trapped in the Closet," another controversial episode that skewers Scientology and its popular proponent Tom Cruise will rerun July 19. It was last set to repeat in March but was abruptly pulled by the network amid reports that Cruise had used his clout to bury it.
"We just picked the wrong guy to parody because I have a feeling we'll be asked about Tom Cruise for the next two years," Stone said. "Every time we're in a headline, it's like, Tom Cruise and then us in a headline, you start to get that Tom Cruise stink on you."

While the poop joke was, you know, played well, the funniest thing was probably Cartman's monotonous squadron leader voice.

so the last episode, the 9/11 conspiracy theory/urinal poop one... what do we think?
I thought it was hysterical. Mr. Mackey's outrage had me in tears.

It was a little weird seeing the burning WTC in such a goofy episode. I guess it won't take thirty years for that image to become something "harmless" like the Hidenberg exploding.
