what would be holding iran to a field goal in this scenario? chemical weapons?

balls, Monday, 17 September 2012 01:06 (thirteen years ago)

can anyone recall another time a foreign leader has campaigned this semi-openly for a candidate in a presidential election? esp against the incumbent?
--balls

actually his refusal to say he even knew Romney back in the day is sorta interesting. not sure it's clear what's going on really.

Politico story is kinda hilarious:

This is the type of stuff I usually see after the embargos get lifted after Election Day.

Ned Raggett, Monday, 17 September 2012 03:04 (thirteen years ago)

ya however much i know those kind of things are bullshit i could read about failing republican campaigns all day

lag∞n, Monday, 17 September 2012 03:06 (thirteen years ago)

yeah if those guys are so worried in *september* about their jobs that they have to start blaming everybody else you figure that ship ain't holding water XP

seems like a p obvs attempt to get the one guy fired

lag∞n, Monday, 17 September 2012 03:07 (thirteen years ago)

Warren receently retooled her ads with an eye toward cutting down Brown’s big 57-35 lead among independents.

btw i have seen some warren ads and they are not great, overall her whole aura could use some upgrading

lag∞n, Monday, 17 September 2012 03:11 (thirteen years ago)

she's not a politician

Matt Armstrong, Monday, 17 September 2012 04:30 (thirteen years ago)

granted beating a popular incumbent is no mean feat, which she is certainly in position to do, even if he is a republican in massachusetts, but a lot of people have been talking abt her as a presidential candidate and i just do not see it, which is too bad

lag∞n, Monday, 17 September 2012 13:20 (thirteen years ago)

Warren would be a great senator or representative; I don't think her skill set would be as effective in the executive branch

President Scott Brown would probably be a better governor than he is senator

wtf where's my chapbook (DJP), Monday, 17 September 2012 13:23 (thirteen years ago)

I'm honestly surprised that she's starting to lead. Hey, Massachusetts residents: how have her campaign appearances and advertising been the last month?

dan otm

a regina spektor is haunting europe (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Monday, 17 September 2012 13:24 (thirteen years ago)

yeah idk abt warrens skill set or w/e but what makes her a such a compelling presence is that shes willing to express important and popular opinons re crony capitalism that most politicians just wont touch

lag∞n, Monday, 17 September 2012 13:28 (thirteen years ago)

obvs politicians are by nature conservative and the status quo is by definition behind the times, so i imagine we will be hearing more of this message from other politicians at some point, but still

lag∞n, Monday, 17 September 2012 13:29 (thirteen years ago)

What makes her a compelling presence is her ability to explain those ideas.

a regina spektor is haunting europe (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Monday, 17 September 2012 13:30 (thirteen years ago)

haven't seen her campaign appearances, although they seem very well populated by a very diverse population based on her Facebook feed

I realized she had a serious shot at winning when my retired neighbor, who has been super Republican for the past 11 years, announced he was volunteering for her and that she was the type of candidate he'd been dying to support

Her ads really hammer home the message of corporations taking advantage of the average person in the name of grossly inflated profits, making life more difficult for people in the state; meanwhile, President Scott Brown has an ad of himself riding around in his truck bragging about how his biggest legislative accomplishment is making it illegal for Congress to use insider information to make money in the stock market.

wtf where's my chapbook (DJP), Monday, 17 September 2012 13:31 (thirteen years ago)

She's your favorite elementary school teacher given a platform.

a regina spektor is haunting europe (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Monday, 17 September 2012 13:31 (thirteen years ago)

She's really the perfect person to run on a platform about crony capitalism* given that that has been teaching classes about it since forever

* I originally wrote "corny capitalism" here

wtf where's my chapbook (DJP), Monday, 17 September 2012 13:32 (thirteen years ago)

What makes her a compelling presence is her ability to explain those ideas.

well as i was saying idk that she actually particularly adept at it, its more just her willingness to talk abt these things at all, not that the ideas are hard to explain particularly, i mean these are things most of the country already believe, but its hard not to come off as a pinko terrorist while youre doing it, which to some extent she does tbh

lag∞n, Monday, 17 September 2012 13:33 (thirteen years ago)

idk if warren's image trouble is that she's 'not a politician' because i think she's been able to articulate a sort of populist economic position in a pretty compelling way for voters, but in press appearances and debates she can come off as sour and professorial, she can talk policy all day but she's doesn't have the easy male-model-in-a-pick-up-truck appeal of brown (many xposts)

real men have been preparing manly dishes for centuries (elmo argonaut), Monday, 17 September 2012 13:34 (thirteen years ago)

xp: most pinko terrorists don't look like your 3rd grade reading teacher

tbh I think the lecturing style works for her, because it's pretty obviously who she is and where she feels comfortable

wtf where's my chapbook (DJP), Monday, 17 September 2012 13:35 (thirteen years ago)

she's also making an argument rather than just bleating "ED KENNEDY! ED KENNEDY!" and hoping inertia does the hard work for her

pinko terrorist is forgive me somewhat facetious, what she comes off as is hopelessly old fashionedly liberal

lag∞n, Monday, 17 September 2012 13:40 (thirteen years ago)

to the GOP teachers ARE pinko terrorists.

a regina spektor is haunting europe (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Monday, 17 September 2012 13:40 (thirteen years ago)

true, luckily tho she is running in mass

lag∞n, Monday, 17 September 2012 13:40 (thirteen years ago)

inko terrorist is forgive me somewhat facetious, what she comes off as is hopelessly old fashionedly liberal

lol I'm just saying she gets to get away with saying that stuff because she is from Oklahoma originally and when she speaks, she sounds like she is reading you a darling bedtime story about evil corporations sucking the country dry

wtf where's my chapbook (DJP), Monday, 17 September 2012 13:44 (thirteen years ago)

that does sound quite pleasant tbh

lag∞n, Monday, 17 September 2012 13:47 (thirteen years ago)

I hope she wins, but her speech at the DNC made it very obvious to me why she has struggled against Brown: he is very clearly a Massachusetts native through and through, and she is very clearly not. Might not be fair, but I can definitely see why people find Brown more "relatable".

Moodles, Monday, 17 September 2012 14:25 (thirteen years ago)

She should reiterate her love of the Boston Celtics at every campaign stop, and to show how Irish she can get, pronounce "Celtic" with a hard 'C'.
