A physician must certify that a patient has an approved debilitating medical condition to participate in the Medicinal Marijuana Program. Approved debilitating medical conditions include:

Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis
Multiple sclerosis
Terminal cancer
Muscular dystrophy
Inflammatory bowel disease, including Crohn’s disease
Terminal illness, if the physician has determined a prognosis of less than 12 months of life.
The following conditions apply, if resistant to, or if the patient is intolerant to, conventional therapy:

Seizure disorder, including epilepsy
Intractable skeletal muscular spasticity
Glaucoma
The following conditions apply, if severe or chronic pain, severe nausea or vomiting, cachexia or wasting syndrome results from the condition or treatment thereof:

Positive status for human immunodeficiency virus
Acquired immune deficiency syndrome
Cancer

i never understood this country's "well if you're dying have all the drugs you want" hypocrisy

then again, i've seen pretty good anecdotal evidence that cannabis is not a particularly good long-term solution for some of the stuff it's often prescribed for in california, i.e. mental health conditions

i heard gary johnson this morning on NPR (from the 3rd party candidate debate last night) say that we should immediately legalize marijuana. i wonder how long it'll take before a dem or rep candidate says the same.

Libertarians have been saying that since forever though.

^^this. I don't really see how cannabis can cure or really help any of these. And if it's so bad and hated, why should people with serious illnesses be able to take it when perfectly healthy people can't? The hypocrisy of the whole thing is astounding, frankly.

imho, legalizing medical marijuana is a gateway to full legalization - a way to get people comfortable to the idea

also, re mental health conditions, i have known people who have suffered from severe anxiety that were helped through marijuana use

marijuana threw my anxiety into complete overdrive, but I acknowledge it works differently for different people. I'd try it for anxiety again.

There is plenty of medicine prescribed for mental health that is not very good for people to take in the long term.

I think in my case, it was not good to take in dosages of like, a dozen bowls and a few bong hits over the course of the evening. That's just how everyone I ever smoked down with liked to roll.

Sure, but why not just admit that it's not proven to be bad for you? Instead of saying that it is bad for you unless you have a serious illness?

I agree with you - I'm just not sure it's politically feasible (or at least not as feasible as medical marijuana appears to be).

the third party debate was lol because with the exception of the poor man's clint eastwood from the "constitution party" every candidate supported legalizing marijuana. there were a bunch of issues like that.

yeah nothing groundbreaking, but just rad to see 60minutes devoting time to it

cool segment, also economic revitalization information made me feel very optimistic. if states begin to draw lots of revenue from this i think that will expedite more comprehensive legalization

Filled in one vote-by-mail oval today to legalize weed in WA state and another to legalize gay marriage. Doesn't mean they'll pass (though both are polling ahead for now), but still, I never thought I'd actually see either up for a vote, much less on the same ballot.

my CA pride is hurt a little by the fact that we didn't get there first, but reading the text of the CO law, legalization of under an ounce doesn't seem meaningfully from decriminalization of an ounce. cultivation and sales are maybe kind of a big deal, but maybe kind of not? compared to the medical situation, what's the diff? I don't know.

as a Denver resident, weed was/is pretty "legal" here already (not really, but everyone smokes it freely and openly). I am excited about the tax revenues and the tourism and all that. Super stoked.
