This was the only data made available with the application, and in order to accurately estimate and verify savings, individual building meter data will need to be obtained from the campus

First of all, these data were , not this data was. These apples. This apple. These data. This datum. Secondly, you're asking for individual building meter data so you can monitor our electricity use and send us to reeducation camps and call in the black helicopters you fascist dystopia summoner of the end times?!,!!!?!?

Thanks WEBSITE!! (Z S), Sunday, 9 September 2012 21:06 (thirteen years ago)

If you allow the datum/data thing to bother you, you will die a frustrated old man. Americans have decided data is a collective noun, like rice, water or flour, denoting a undifferentiated mass. In the process they discarded the word datum altogether, as being too foreign to assimilate.

Aimless, Sunday, 9 September 2012 21:28 (thirteen years ago)

cool rule of thumb, if youre using a word in english its an english word, therefor pluralise englishwise, datas

Just as a side note, coffee and water used to be noncount nouns, but have since switched over to count nouns.

I think it'd be more precise to say that the words have new senses where they are count-nouns. So they're both.

"Pffft" --buddha (silby), Sunday, 9 September 2012 21:57 (thirteen years ago)

u could say theyre abbreviations of a cup of coffee and a bottle of water

In reference to how Romney would deal with those with preexisting conditions and young adults who want to remain on their parents’ plans, a Romney aide responded that there had been no change in Romney’s position and that “in a competitive environment, the marketplace will make available plans that include coverage for what there is demand for. He was not proposing a federal mandate to require insurance plans to offer those particular features.”

Matt Armstrong, Sunday, 9 September 2012 23:43 (thirteen years ago)

just like before

lag∞n, Sunday, 9 September 2012 23:45 (thirteen years ago)

"We're hoping that these young people realize that they can either find insurance or they can join their grandparents in an early demise," said a senior Romney aide, who did not wish to be identified.

That's right out of Tennessee Williams: "I rely on the kindness of the insurance industry."

Ha, that reminds me of something one of the old warehouse guys used to say at M&H: "I'm too old a cat to be fucked by a kitten like you."

I just think that if anyone looks like a different breed of cat, it's Mr. Vice-President up there.

need to know more about "the warehouse" in this scenario

very sexual album (schlump), Monday, 10 September 2012 03:33 (thirteen years ago)

Ha -- nothing unusual. Grocery wholesaler/distributor. The shirt-and-tie sales guys from the front office, we in the ad department, and the warehouse grunts all shared one break room, so there was more socioeconomic crossover and contact than just about any other job I can think of. In a lot of ways it was the best place I ever worked, even though it was just above minimum wage for me. The "too old a cat" was one of the warehouse guys, and was Tammy Wynette's ex-brother-in-law -- he never had a good word to say about her.

This is from a few weeks ago. When asked if he himself put the words "division, anger, and hate" in a speech he had given, he replies, "Well, of course. The words I use in speeches are words that I craft...or put in there...or agree with."

goole, Monday, 10 September 2012 13:19 (thirteen years ago)

I love how the story shifts from the ridiculous "supermarket scanner" comparison (oh yeah, nothing's going to suggest a disconnect between Obama and the average American than HIS DIFFICULTY USING A TOUCH SCREEN - "lol, that adult is bad at tech my KID uses! Pathetic!") to the more appropriate, if still negligible, irony re McCain and e-mail.

da croupier, Monday, 10 September 2012 13:20 (thirteen years ago)

The federal government has had employees using blackberrys for years. Obama has been using one for quite awhile.

The photo above of Vice President Joseph R. Biden Jr. was taken by an Associated Press photographer in Ohio. It is not, as one might reasonably assume, an edited image to go with an article in The Onion.

It is not clear whether Mr. Biden is getting closer to his fictional beer-swilling, chest-baring, bar-fight-starting alter ego dreamed up by the satirical newspaper, or whether images of the real man that seem to reinforce his Joe Everyman character are just getting more popular.

curmudgeon, Monday, 10 September 2012 13:21 (thirteen years ago)

"The New York Times is not sure whether Biden is becoming more like his narrative or we are selectively reporting things that fit his narrative."

da croupier, Monday, 10 September 2012 13:22 (thirteen years ago)

The problem is that the US nuclear arsenal is all powered by an iPhone app that only the president has, so when the bombs start falling, we're basically screwed because he can't "dial it in".

Looks like Romney now insists (and has always said so, he insists again) he likes a couple things about the Affordable Care Act.
