I guess I would just put the onus and the burden on them to explain why they did all this, these purges of God.”

Andrew Farrell, Wednesday, 5 September 2012 18:05 (thirteen years ago)

There sure is a lot of mention of government.

Most perplexing, considering this is a political convention of a party of government.

Ermahgerd Thomas (Dan Peterson), Wednesday, 5 September 2012 18:15 (thirteen years ago)

Democrats: "Elect us to run the government."

Republicans: "Elect us to run the... uh... you know, that thing with all the taxes and stuff."

Aimless, Wednesday, 5 September 2012 18:22 (thirteen years ago)

Elect to us to run that thing we all despise and want to drown in a bathtub.

I don't understand the "well, if Barack Obama does the drone rocketeering then it must be ok" line because other than categorically banning torture (by American soldiers and intelligence officers) I can't think of many ways in which Obama and Bush are any different in their prosecution of this war on evildoers.

I DIED, I died at that. can I share with pals?

catbus otm (gbx), Wednesday, 5 September 2012 20:45 (thirteen years ago)

drones are much cheaper than cruise missiles, which was the cleaner-presidential-hands, hey-we-only-killed-a-few-civilians weapon of choice from circa 1990 to 2008. it is not like drones are anything more than a tiny step along the road to remotely-dispensed death that began with the arquebus. those cruise missiles were about 3 million a pop, but Poppy Bush, Clinton, and Baby Bush all loved them.

Aimless, Wednesday, 5 September 2012 20:46 (thirteen years ago)

I posted in the wrong thread but then there's been so many of them.

update: In Fargo airport, en route home via denver. Only two screens in this wing, one with HLN, one with tennis on espn. terminal is nice & quiet.

Also, These Purges of God is in way too readable a font. it needs that death metal wank scrawl.

xp:

it is not like drones are anything more than a tiny step along the road to remotely-dispensed death that began with the arquebus.

well yeah, and we did do this with Junkers, Lancasters, and Flying Fortresses before, but each step still seems a further remove from the psychological consequences of offing somebody, thus making it easier to order.
