Also reminded me of the frustrations that led me away from experimental poetry/text - the resistance of our mainstream culture to any influence from poetry. The idea of a poetic Warhol, as he discusses, is such an appealing one, but I just don't see it happening. So the avant-garde ends up talking to itself endlessly and fruitlessly (same in other art forms too, obv, that lack the immediacy of the visual, or the musical). But then I get easily frustrated.

(^^these are just mods of a video i took of rafael lozano-hemmer's Voice Array, which i saw at bitforms gallery in nyc this weekend. you speak into a microphone on the left edge, it transforms the audio into a pulsating light, and then slides your light recording in on the left side, bumping each of the previous 200 or so recordings one spot to the right, and knocking the one that was on the far right (the 200th recording, or whatever the number was) "out" of the piece, so that the audio plays alone on a speaker. pretty cool!)

this is an old psych gif technique (aka 3 years old) but whatever

is the image actually twisting or are my eyes fooled into thinking that, ZS?

There is a small twist, but not as much as it appears. (Put your finger on one of the heads and you can see it.) I've had the flu a couple times where my vision was like this - very uncomfortable.

there are 6 frames. the first three are the original image, the original image rotated 1 degree, and then the original image rotated 2 degrees. frames 4-6 are the same as 1-3, but with inverted colors.

it's a pretty common effect in the gif world, i think, but until recently i couldn't figure out exactly how it was done.

now i can make people barf whenever i want!

Also, I submitted a handful of my gifs to the Moving the Still gif festival / tumblr. my walking camouflage person was just posted today and quickly picked up a ton of notes, so i'm hoping that they'll look closely at my stuff when they make their final selection for the gif festival in miami. i could get to meet michael stipe! (one of the panel members)
