tbf Jesse was being pretty worthless back then, probably would've been better in the long run if Walt had just let them kill Jesse
― chicago rap twitter luminary (Shakey Mo Collier), Tuesday, 4 September 2012 21:28 (thirteen years ago)
god how awesome would that be if the whole thing was the longest con ever by Skylar
― set the controls for the heart of the sun (VegemiteGrrl), Tuesday, 4 September 2012 21:28 (thirteen years ago)
She's smart and she's desperate. But how would she know the significance of the inscription? Oh, prob was something in media about G.B. being found shot to death, maybe his occupation, whatever info the cops couldn't keep from leaking.
― dow, Tuesday, 4 September 2012 21:38 (thirteen years ago)
Did Walt tell her about Gale? He told her more shit than I would have, but gotta tell 'em something.
― dow, Tuesday, 4 September 2012 21:40 (thirteen years ago)
i'm not remembering too clearly but it's not entirely true that all walt needed to have done was keep his head down and work for fring, is it? fring was going to off him, wasn't he?
― TracerHandVEVO (Tracer Hand), Tuesday, September 4, 2012 8:58 PM (51 minutes ago) Bookmark Flag Post Permalink
yeah he could have kept his head down and let Gus kill Jesse. Or Gus could have been reasonable and not prioritized two street thugs over his extremely valuable meth cooks.
― Matt Armstrong, Tuesday, 4 September 2012 21:50 (thirteen years ago)
basically Mike's whole speech was B.S., Gus brought it all on himself
― Matt Armstrong, Tuesday, 4 September 2012 21:51 (thirteen years ago)
really need to re-screen this whole show once it's over, like, stat
― skrill xx (cozen), Tuesday, 4 September 2012 21:53 (thirteen years ago)
neo-nazi's are, i understand, the de-facto gang for white guys in prison. so on one hand it's not really that surprising uncle prisonconnections had swastica tatto dudes around him. on the other hand, yep, just how low can walt sink ffs?!?!?

u guys are driving me nuts. he paid them to kill nine people, i think that is lower on the scale than 'consorting with nazis.'
are u really thinking "now not only is he murdering people, but hes *gasps* paying a prison gang to help him!" its completely w/in character & not a leap in any way

that "full title sequence" is horrible
― Number None, Tuesday, 4 September 2012 22:00 (thirteen years ago)
Wasn't it implied in a flashback from last season that Gus planned on offing Walt even before Jesse became a problem? iirc Gale was instructed to learn Walt's methods so that he could take over the cook b/c of Walt's cancer, which was already in remission by that point. Gus was distrustful of Walt from day one - he just wanted the product.
― Broney, Pt. 1 (Pillbox), Tuesday, 4 September 2012 22:00 (thirteen years ago)
Gus was grooming Gale because Walt had already gone off the reservation and capped two of his dudes
― Matt Armstrong, Tuesday, 4 September 2012 22:01 (thirteen years ago)
Hank's gotta be hearing the higher echelons saying what he's saying to himself:"Your in-laws start coming unglued, and it's because the guy is a gambling addict, fine--but the world's most successful gambling addict?? How often do the casinos let anybody win that much? And he's not even a mathematician, he 's a chemist!" One who used to at least potentially be a first rate chemist, that's why his ex-wife, who (with Walt's ex-best friend, her current husband) now runs the enterprise they all three started together, could afford to pay for Walt's cancer treatment. She didn't, of course, but that was Walt's alibi for the *first* big chunk of change. Damn, Hank!
― dow, Tuesday, 4 September 2012 22:09 (thirteen years ago)
its gonna make hank look pretty bad at work

yeah i've been thinking how anything w/ walt comes to light w/o hank being heavily incriminated or at a minimum his career over. even if walt manages to sell 'i was trapped, i was a low level figure, i just cooked, i was desperate dying of cancer and wanted to leave money for my family. i will rat out everybody in this interstate international empire.' i still don't know how hank survives that.
― balls, Tuesday, 4 September 2012 22:15 (thirteen years ago)
hanks gonna try to protect them, get them in witness protection isnt he, even if he doesnt believe walts story
― lag∞n, Tuesday, 4 September 2012 22:17 (thirteen years ago)
it is his sister and niece and nephew and he's been buying walt's sob stories all season. really would like to thank the internet for planting the 'holly's a goner' idea btw cuz now every time i see her that's all i think - chekov's baby.
― balls, Tuesday, 4 September 2012 22:19 (thirteen years ago)
Hank's wife cannot keep a secret. Also, she can pick up on other people's inner turmoil, just enough to react.
― dow, Tuesday, 4 September 2012 22:27 (thirteen years ago)
"chekov's baby"?

Oh that Chekov--what about his baby?
― dow, Tuesday, 4 September 2012 22:33 (thirteen years ago)
they kept showing her and showing her and you kept thinking 'why do they keep showing chekov's baby?' and then they killed her (ripped apart by warriguls iirc) so now whenever a show keeps showing a baby over and over it means that baby gonna die. this is called 'chekov's baby'.
― balls, Tuesday, 4 September 2012 22:41 (thirteen years ago)
nice work chekhov
― Matt Armstrong, Tuesday, 4 September 2012 22:42 (thirteen years ago)
yeah it doesn't look great how Hank investigated everyone in the operation but Walt... and everyone but Jesse ended up dead.
― Matt Armstrong, Tuesday, 4 September 2012 22:45 (thirteen years ago)
When Walt Jr. was wheeling Holly around the pool while everybody was all happy and chatting, I was sure that they were both going to fall in and drown without anyone noticing until it was too late. Or Marie's weird sunscreen was actually flammable and Skyler was going to accidentally set her on fire when she ducked out for a mid-dinner cigarette.
― carl agatha, Tuesday, 4 September 2012 22:48 (thirteen years ago)
or a plane was going to crash into the pool or a swat team would burst through the patio door
― set the controls for the heart of the sun (VegemiteGrrl), Tuesday, 4 September 2012 22:49 (thirteen years ago)
Vince, because he can't lay back, said in some interview the other day that it's going to end so dark he's not sure if people will stick with it. The only thing that can be that bad is offing some of the innocent White family, alas. I wouldn't put it past this show to kill just about anyone short of Walt, in fact. Which, again, sort of parallels the end of "The Shield." Like, what if the cold open of this season is simply Walt's perpetual life, with everyone dead and him constantly on the run?
Can't believe we have to wait so long for resolution, grrr.
― Josh in Chicago, Tuesday, 4 September 2012 22:54 (thirteen years ago)
so I kept falling asleep during this episode and was really confused by the end. Do I need to rescreen it?
― Aceveda (admrl), Tuesday, 4 September 2012 22:54 (thirteen years ago)
Yes. Great how Marie is always so earnestly keyed-up, the opposite of (big sister?)Skyler, the quietly desperate, maybe now truly crazy one. Also great to see them both show up on The Soup sometimes. This whole thing better not end with Walt dying of tragic irony, while protecting the family he's so endangered. That would really be some TV shit.
― dow, Tuesday, 4 September 2012 22:57 (thirteen years ago)
It wasn't very complicated, so probably?
― pun lovin criminal (polyphonic), Tuesday, 4 September 2012 22:58 (thirteen years ago)

They must have been saving "Crystal Blue Persuasion" for quite a while huh?The music and its usage has been consistently great in this show, from hiring a Narcocorridor to sing about Heisenberg, to the monkees. and the "On A Clear Day You Can See Forever" by the pedlers which is just amazing and i had never heard before. I thought "Up the junction" playing in the background of the pool scene was kind of random, but the tension in that scene was palpable so i guess it worked.
― dsb, Wednesday, 5 September 2012 06:09 (thirteen years ago)
I think Holly is the more obvious sacrifice they'd make but that Walt Jr is who will die - Walt Jr who started the little website to pay for his dad's chemo, Walt Jr who deserves better than this family. Not that Holly doesn't, but her death would be The Death of A Baby. Walt Jr's death is somebody you've known since episode one.
