I keep wondering why and how Lydia became so invested in the meth business. Is it understood that she acts like someone who has consumed more than her share of stimulants?

I think the entire thing with her having Czech contacts is because she was part of the main game last time around. Dude in Germany was the mastermind, he used her in the same way she is now using the czech counterparts, but he was doing it from the restaurant arm of things and she is a general warehouse manager for a part of the company that ships for multiple concerns. What this means about the involvement of anyone in a division office, I have no idea. It could just be the shipping branch now.

Gus wasn't actually that bothered about Walt for most of last season, he was focusing on the cartel, it was Walt who was obsessing about Gus trying to kill him which forced the conflict.

What if Walt meant for Hank to find the telltale flyleaf? (He knows ol' gimpy fat Hank goes to the can a lot)What was that thing he put into or by the light socket? Maybe he wants to have proof of Hank's reaction, a way to blackmail him? After all, Hank got his new job because his boss got canned for not knowing (and apparently not wanting to know, willfully obtuse at best) that the chicken man/cop's benefactor was Druglord. Somebody also suggested that Skyler put the book there (running her own game on Walt and Hank? Seems too bold for her). Responding to NYTimes queries, Gilligan confirmed that Walt is out, but seemed a little cagier when quoted by other sites. He tells 'em all that he and the other writers haven't decided yet about the rest of it (excellent, as long as it doesn't end like The Sopranos)

yeah he could have kept his head down and let Gus kill Jesse. Or Gus could have been reasonable and not prioritized two street thugs over his extremely valuable meth cooks.

Wasn't it implied in a flashback from last season that Gus planned on offing Walt even before Jesse became a problem? iirc Gale was instructed to learn Walt's methods so that he could take over the cook b/c of Walt's cancer, which was already in remission by that point. Gus was distrustful of Walt from day one - he just wanted the product.

Gus was grooming Gale because Walt had already gone off the reservation and capped two of his dudes

Hank's gotta be hearing the higher echelons saying what he's saying to himself:
"Your in-laws start coming unglued, and it's because the guy is a gambling addict, fine--but the world's most successful gambling addict?? How often do the casinos let anybody win that much? And he's not even a mathematician, he 's a chemist!" One who used to at least potentially be a first rate chemist, that's why his ex-wife, who (with Walt's ex-best friend, her current husband) now runs the enterprise they all three started together, could afford to pay for Walt's cancer treatment. She didn't, of course, but that was Walt's alibi for the *first* big chunk of change. Damn, Hank!
