Shall we anticipate the FIFTH SEASON of the AMC series "Breaking Bad"? I think I may.

those series of ratatatatatat shankings were really fucking disturbing

not as disturbing as lighting dude on fire though

dmr, Monday, 3 September 2012 16:58 (thirteen years ago)

Nah, stabbings were way worse imo

I miss the chaos the show use to thrive on - things just kinda seem to fall into place now.

Simon H., Monday, 3 September 2012 17:12 (thirteen years ago)

yeah but they've spent years setting up chekhov's gun cabinet

a hoy hoy, Monday, 3 September 2012 17:14 (thirteen years ago)

Todd being connected to/leader of (?) a gang of neo Nazis seems to have passed by unnoticed in all the reviews on this episode. I was actually shocked when you saw who Walt was meeting with - the show just kind of glossed it over

seriously, THIS GUY (daria-g), Monday, 3 September 2012 17:23 (thirteen years ago)

ha, yeah, somehow all of the other criminal scumbags he'd been consorting with seemed quite savoury.

Todd being connected to/leader of (?) a gang of neo Nazis

I think Todd's uncle was meant to be the leader

dmr, Monday, 3 September 2012 17:29 (thirteen years ago)

awesome episode. excellent montage. stabbings were pretty rough. and i think we're beginning to see a little bit of the side of lydia that made mike so eager to kill her peeking through.

omar little, Monday, 3 September 2012 17:35 (thirteen years ago)

i think we all saw why he wanted to kill her... what we saw with this ep is why she was worth keeping around!

Nothing about Walt's depravity or complete lack of a code surprises me anymore.

Old Lunch, Monday, 3 September 2012 17:38 (thirteen years ago)

i think she was operating less on understandable self-preservation and fear this ep and more on cold-blooded business acumen. at least i thought i sensed a slight shift.

it didnt surprise me, because when todd started talking about how he had prison connections that could help distribute drugs - well, it wasn't gonna be the Bloods

Hungry4Ass, Monday, 3 September 2012 17:41 (thirteen years ago)

his uncle the ponzi scheme convict

Yes, thus far we've only seen a Lydia who doesn't work well under pressure (or at least threat of imprisonment/death). Now we're seeing the other high-functioning, type A pole. I mean, I assume there's a reason she's some sort of executive at this multinational, yeah?

Old Lunch, Monday, 3 September 2012 17:44 (thirteen years ago)

Nothing about Walt's depravity or complete lack of a code surprises me anymore.

It doesn't surprise me that he does this, it's seemed pretty clear for several seasons what Walt is, but I was surprised that the show didn't pause to remark on it either? for me when characters show up with those associations it's particularly shocking and horrible, and it seemed to me that even though Walter rationalizes away anything, the show itself usually spends time making you think about implications, consequences - but not here.

seriously, THIS GUY (daria-g), Monday, 3 September 2012 17:54 (thirteen years ago)

i think the way the camera lingered on their nazi tattoos counts

Hungry4Ass, Monday, 3 September 2012 17:55 (thirteen years ago)

most def; his murder of ten men (including one guy who is effectively a civilian) comes immediately after he swears up and down that no one else is ever getting hurt now that he's in charge. Then: nazis.

Yeah, I mean...Walt found some ex-cons to murder a bunch of people for money. Kinda figures that they're, y'know, shitty people. I don't know that having one of them waving a Nazi flag in the background while another of them told Walt how much he loved Hitler would've really hammered the point home any more.

Old Lunch, Monday, 3 September 2012 18:16 (thirteen years ago)

I was a bit confused (though maybe it was intentionally ambiguous) about what Jesse was referring to when he said "Saul told me." to Walt: Killing Mike (seems unlikely, getting 'out', Czechoslovakia?

LaMonte, Monday, 3 September 2012 18:20 (thirteen years ago)

Czech, is my guess

set the controls for the heart of the sun (VegemiteGrrl), Monday, 3 September 2012 18:22 (thirteen years ago)

i thought it was killing mike. the way he said 'it had to be done'

Hungry4Ass, Monday, 3 September 2012 18:38 (thirteen years ago)

I thought it was the killing of the 10 guys. Thus making Jesse "safe." But of course Jesse's thinking he's just the next guy on the list of people Walt needs to get rid of.

dmr, Monday, 3 September 2012 18:40 (thirteen years ago)

I don't think Jesse or Saul would "know" what happened to Mike with any certainty if Walt sticks to his story that Mike "escaped."

dmr, Monday, 3 September 2012 18:41 (thirteen years ago)

yeah jesse was thinking of the prison killings

balls, Monday, 3 September 2012 18:42 (thirteen years ago)

OTOH they're probably thinking like Lydia, if Mike were still alive Walt would never move against those guys

dmr, Monday, 3 September 2012 18:43 (thirteen years ago)

has anyone mentioned that todd's unsavory uncle (or maybe uncle's friend?) was jason street's wheelchair friend (whose name i forget) from FNL?
i thought that was kinda lol casting, considering

these albatrosses have no fear of man (La Lechera), Monday, 3 September 2012 18:43 (thirteen years ago)

haha did not notice that. but did notice that Todd is in The Master.

is it weird that i'm kind of blasé about prison neo-nazis, from what i've read it's just another prison gang, ppl join them for protection, not because they love hitler

they're not REAL nazis

Author ~ Coach ~ Goddess (s1ocki), Monday, 3 September 2012 18:54 (thirteen years ago)

jesse definitely doesn't know mike is dead
he was referring to the prison killings
that was enough to freak him out to get the pistol
if he thought for sure he killed mike there's no way he's letting him in

I loved the book ending (I was going NO NO NO NO NO all the way through partly because I couldn't stand the tension of not knowing what terrible thing was going to happen at that bbq).
To anyone else the inscription could be willed away as it's kind of ambiguous. But Hank KNOWS.

otm about the bbq. i was actually shallow breathing a bit in anticipation of something horrible. i did hope they'd break the tension with hank having a sudden deluge of diarrhoea after his discovery.

Know how Roo feel (LocalGarda), Monday, 3 September 2012 20:14 (thirteen years ago)

my gut was telling me that walt jr was going to tumble into the pool with holly even as my head told me how ridiculous that was.

tubular, mondo, gnabry (Merdeyeux), Monday, 3 September 2012 20:17 (thirteen years ago)

lydia is so hot imo

this too

xpost i was thinking more an explosion of some kind. love the way they had all the conversations in the same mix of sound.

Know how Roo feel (LocalGarda), Monday, 3 September 2012 20:17 (thirteen years ago)

merdey otm, I had a weird feeling about the pool too!

OTMFM, the sound design on this episode generally seemed really careful to me

it reminded me Nashville... that scene, apart from the dread.

Man those stabbings were dreamy

latebloomer, Monday, 3 September 2012 20:54 (thirteen years ago)

latebloomer, Monday, 3 September 2012 20:55 (thirteen years ago)

Old Lunch, Monday, 3 September 2012 20:58 (thirteen years ago)

the dreamiest of stabbings

This cad needs a cordial introduction to Eugene of Oxbow. (forksclovetofu), Monday, 3 September 2012 21:01 (thirteen years ago)

super dreamy *swoon*

set the controls for the heart of the sun (VegemiteGrrl), Monday, 3 September 2012 21:02 (thirteen years ago)

it was sort of dreamy, if you hadn't corrected that i wouldn't have thought you were a psychopath.

Know how Roo feel (LocalGarda), Monday, 3 September 2012 21:08 (thirteen years ago)

please don't now brand me a psychopath.

Know how Roo feel (LocalGarda), Monday, 3 September 2012 21:09 (thirteen years ago)

I'm glad they bleeped Mike saying "fuck," otherwise this show would be inappropriate for some audiences.

Matt Armstrong, Monday, 3 September 2012 21:10 (thirteen years ago)

I assume the "fuck"s will be unmuted in the DVDs and when the show hits the streaming services. Is this the first basic cable drama to include (muted) "fuck"s in the dialogue?
