I hate to be this person, but after all that time Hank finds a book.. really?
Yeah, really! I've been saying forever that Hank was going to find out about Walt via something other than legit DEA investigative means. I just figured it'd be because of some bit of information Marie had ferreted out from Skyler. Either way, Walt is really "Up The Junction" now.
Man, how many years have they been champing at the bit, waiting for just the right moment to drop "Crystal Blue Persuasion" into the mix? So obvious in retrospect.
― Old Lunch, Monday, 3 September 2012 04:43 (thirteen years ago)
there are like 200 plausible ways Hank could have figured it out, don't really care which way they chose tbh
― Matt Armstrong, Monday, 3 September 2012 04:52 (thirteen years ago)
I really wish they'd CGI-ed a light bulb over his head in that last shot.
― Old Lunch, Monday, 3 September 2012 04:56 (thirteen years ago)
the face he made was a little like the guy watching his wife get raped in clockwork orangei was SO hoping they would go out on the season with SFX of Hank dropping a load

Or at least the sound of him breaking (wind) bad.
― Old Lunch, Monday, 3 September 2012 05:13 (thirteen years ago)
I so badly want the series to end on a really groanworthy shot that makes the title of the show overly-literal. Like someone smashing a Michael Jackson album or someone doing a particularly inept windmill.
― Old Lunch, Monday, 3 September 2012 05:19 (thirteen years ago)
kind of disappointing Breaking Bad resorted to a version of the ONE LAST JOB cliche
― Sadly, 99.99 percent of sheeple will never wake up (I DIED), Monday, 3 September 2012 05:25 (thirteen years ago)
is hank gonna get ricinned
― Matt Armstrong, Monday, 3 September 2012 05:27 (thirteen years ago)
by "one last job" do you mean evading the DEA one last time?
― Matt Armstrong, Monday, 3 September 2012 05:29 (thirteen years ago)
that it's only once Hank makes the decision to leave the business that the consequences catch up with him
― Sadly, 99.99 percent of sheeple will never wake up (I DIED), Monday, 3 September 2012 05:35 (thirteen years ago)
uh I mean Walt not Hank of course

the murder montage was something alright.

kind of odd that walt's new business partners from last week seemed to disappear entirely.

murder montage was godfather/good fellas level

i don't know if i should be proud or disturbed that my bb-scheme skills are refined enough that i was thinking last week the disposal of the guys in prison would have to be simultaneous for it to work.
― tubular, mondo, gnabry (Merdeyeux), Monday, 3 September 2012 05:56 (thirteen years ago)
I don't care for the montages at this point. can't they find another way to compress time.. alternately, do a 15 minute long take of Walt doing nothing but scrubbing equipment in the lab, to really annoy viewers.

-prison montage was A+- fkn Walt & his narcissism. of couse he still has that goddamn book. - Jesse/Walt was the most awkward post breakup scene ever. -everytime there's a long scene with Lydia I half expect her to drop an "I drive slow on the driveways"...god she's so spazzy she is almost hard to watch

If I can just allow myself a Shakey Mo-ment here real quick:
I think Mike's seemingly-uncharacteristic failure to kill Lydia was suuuuper intentional on a thematic level. It was a half measure, and the ultimate result of that half measure will likely be a tragic reminder of why Mike had sworn off half measures many years ago. Getting into bed with the ticking timebomb by episode's end just further underscores Mike's foregone doom. He ain't gettin' out of this alive because he broke his own code.
― Old Lunch, Tuesday, 24 July 2012 11:11 (1 month ago) Permalink
I'm starting to think Hank is never going to find out about Walt's secret life via investigative means. He'll get close, but it just seems too pat from a dramatic standpoint. After all of his hard work, he'll probably discover Heisenberg's identity from Marie or something.
― Old Lunch, Monday, 13 August 2012 20:59 (3 weeks ago) Permalink
I was trying hard to read Walt's mind in that scene. And it might be a logistical overshoot, but I can't help thinking that he's angling to use Lydia's knowledge to take Mike's guys out of the picture permanent-like. Although that would most definitely induce Walt's suicide-by-Ehrmantraut, so maybe not. It was definitely about trying to get an angle on Mike somehow, though.
― Old Lunch, Tuesday, 14 August 2012 14:16 (2 weeks ago) Permalink
Speculating about a hypothesis: Walt sees Todd's coldblooded willingness to do whatever's "necessary" as an asset worth retaining. Mike wants to put a bullet in Todd, but Walt talks him down on the basis of Todd misinterpreting Walt's edict to keep the heist among themselves and insists that (after turning the kid into a barrel of human slurry) they continue business as usual. This will be the beginning of the end of Jesse's involvement, though, because it's already well-established that he has no tolerance for unnecessary killing (particularly of kids). He barely wanted to come back in the first place, and Walt's hard-won emotional manipulation will start to slip as Jesse begins to realize that he values the life he was just starting to build for himself with Andrea and Brock much more than this world he's gotten sucked back into. Walt will see this as a threat and that might be where Todd comes into play. Also, he's still using Lydia to find an angle on Mike. Maybe he can use Todd to take care of Mike's nine guys?

Okay, this hasn't been mentioned here yet, so maybe I'm wrong, but: the punched-in paper towel dispenser? Does this mean Walt's cancer has returned? Did he punch it in at some point in the past that I don't remember? It seemed significant, one way or the other.
― Old Lunch, Monday, 3 September 2012 12:34 (thirteen years ago)
His cancer can't return, unless it is a wig when he turns 52.

yeah I figured that was a cancer diagno that made him punch the dispenser. and it is back at his 52-ing, dude's mad coughing in the diner bathroom
except for the scenes of them meeting in the desert and trading trunks of money for trunks of meth

good ep but yeah so tired of montages
The montages are probably a necessary evil at this point, given that there's only 8 more episodes to get it all out. They're nicely done, imo.
Thanks, sic, I kinda wondered if the punched-in dispenser was something I'd forgotten. I'm gonna try sometime in the next year to finally rewatch all of these effing episodes.

what if it's untreatable?
I thought it was interesting that Walt ended up almost exactly where he started - had he taken that money at the start for cancer treatments, that would have been that. Sure they have a storage room full of money now, but they can't spend much of it.
I'm guessing someone (new business partner from out of state) comes after Jesse since they know he's the second best cook because those guys aren't going to be OK with the supply just going away?

kind of funny that this just got posted on another thread:
Loved that last shot of Walt punching his reflection at the end of the "remission" episode, and next week his hand's all bloody. It totally sums up this kind of thing you get when you prepare for the absolute worst, are convinced that it will happen and then doesn't. And even though you've felt worried, depressed, upset, there's also a sense of anticlimax - like you've geared yourself up for this terrible situation that doesn't come.

Felt physically anxious all through the penultimate happy families scene. Then boom, that's the way you do a cliffhanger.
One suspects that they knew how Hank would find out way back when Gale gave Walt the book. If so, that is the most extraordinarily patient piece of storytelling.

why would the supply go away?
also ww is nowhere near where he started. his wife hates him, that didn't just go away because they had a bbq. he's worth untold millions. oh and a major dea head has cottoned on to him being involved in criminal activity.

also do they even know who jesse is? by name even? they have todd, with his notes, its cool.
― a hoy hoy, Monday, 3 September 2012 16:14 (thirteen years ago)
idk if creepy Todd can just keep producing for them without Walt. And I get that he has millions, but it's sitting in a locker and he can't do anything with most of it, so what good is it? I'm aware there are all these loose ends in the background, just that he's there in his same suburban home with the same people as when he started. A little nicer car and a new water tank now.
― seriously, THIS GUY (daria-g), Monday, 3 September 2012 16:25 (thirteen years ago)
I assume they're going to flesh out exactly how Walter got out of the business. Because it probably wasn't as simple as Walt saying "I'm out" and everyone else involved saying "Okay stay cool bro".
― Old Lunch, Monday, 3 September 2012 16:32 (thirteen years ago)
I kind of assumed he wasn't really quitting but just said that to Skylar. like in Walt's mind he would be the new Gus, not directly involved on a day to day, looks respectable to the community, but still runnin thangs.
