Yeah, I normally run with music! But it's not a big deal to run without. The last few times I ran I was listening to baseball games and the history of rome podcast, anyway.

Thanks WEBSITE!! (Z S), Sunday, 2 September 2012 23:10 (thirteen years ago)

I dropped music after my 2010 marathon. Have enjoyed running much more since then. Your out there so long, I just get tired of having something in my ears and sounds. Safer too.

Jeff, Sunday, 2 September 2012 23:51 (thirteen years ago)

Just finished a really good run. Urban running isn't all bad, the stop lights can be good motivators to speed up before they turn red!

rayuela, Monday, 3 September 2012 00:18 (thirteen years ago)

I use them as breaks. I need all the breaks I can get on a run.

Jeff, Monday, 3 September 2012 00:29 (thirteen years ago)

If I take a break I usually end up thinking, well, that was enough for today and then I mosey on home

rayuela, Monday, 3 September 2012 00:51 (thirteen years ago)

I sometimes think that. That's why I run long out and backs, so I may be 10 miles from home when I decide I have enough. Might as well run back.

Jeff, Monday, 3 September 2012 01:01 (thirteen years ago)

But I do carry can money just in case.

Jeff, Monday, 3 September 2012 01:02 (thirteen years ago)

Dammit.

Jeff, Monday, 3 September 2012 01:03 (thirteen years ago)

Currently drinking. Not running. As I've run more my drinking seemed to have increased as well.

Jeff, Monday, 3 September 2012 01:04 (thirteen years ago)

think i have to start wrapping my knee -- felt like there was a bubble on the left side of my left kneecap the other day. can only feel it when i walk down stairs or when i'm running. already wrap my shins -- pretty soon, my legs will be nothing but sports bandages!

rayuela, Tuesday, 4 September 2012 14:58 (thirteen years ago)

What kind of socks is everyone wearing these days? I've been a long Smartwood devotee, but I am recently trying a couple of new brands. Feetures and Balega Hidden Comfort.

Jeff, Friday, 7 September 2012 11:28 (thirteen years ago)

i have a pair of aqua balega hidden comfort, they are cute

lag∞n, Friday, 7 September 2012 15:25 (thirteen years ago)

does anyone here have opinions on the new balance minimus shooz

thomp, Friday, 7 September 2012 15:26 (thirteen years ago)

Kinda been going sockless lately but shoes are starting to smell big-time.

tobo73, Friday, 7 September 2012 16:00 (thirteen years ago)

i just wear regular cotton sport sox

these albatrosses have no fear of man (La Lechera), Friday, 7 September 2012 17:23 (thirteen years ago)

i only have the one pair of fancy socks cause i was traveling and forgot to bring running socks and there was a running store across the street and i was seduced by the cuteness

lag∞n, Friday, 7 September 2012 17:40 (thirteen years ago)

My socks pretty much get soaked every time I run. I sweat so much it looks like I've jumped in the lake.

Jeff, Friday, 7 September 2012 18:02 (thirteen years ago)

haha smartwood. i have a pair of smartwood and a pair of feetures and some cheap nike running socks from dick's. i like the feetures the best but i left them at my parents' house.

horribl ecreature (harbl), Friday, 7 September 2012 22:30 (thirteen years ago)

So. Did one of those what you might call a Tough Mudder races today. They are not messing around.

los blue jeans, Saturday, 8 September 2012 21:25 (thirteen years ago)

Sorry for grammar, but I'm still a bit après-mud

los blue jeans, Saturday, 8 September 2012 21:30 (thirteen years ago)

Awesome! I think I would just get injured in one of those.

Jeff, Saturday, 8 September 2012 21:47 (thirteen years ago)

may i suggest that they are perhaps messing around

lag∞n, Saturday, 8 September 2012 21:49 (thirteen years ago)

I was traveling last week and went running at altitude (up to 800 m above sea level) and on some fairly long hills. My usual routes are flat (with small hills and occasional stairs) and at sea level. Needless to say, I was having a really hard time compared to my usual runs. I definitely need to drop a few kilos if I ever wanted to be serious about running that kind of route. It was a fun experience though.

NoTimeBeforeTime, Sunday, 9 September 2012 15:20 (thirteen years ago)

In a week or so I'll be running at 8000 ft above sea level. I imagine it will be difficult.

Jeff, Sunday, 9 September 2012 16:01 (thirteen years ago)

oh god yes

lag∞n, Sunday, 9 September 2012 16:26 (thirteen years ago)

Ran my last 20 miler of the training cycle. Went great, took the first 10 easy and did the next 10 at marathon pace. Now I take it easy for 3 weeks.

Jeff, Saturday, 15 September 2012 16:38 (thirteen years ago)

just curious, what kind of runs are "taking it easy" runs?

Thanks WEBSITE!! (Z S), Saturday, 15 September 2012 17:37 (thirteen years ago)

9:15 to 9:45 minute miles. No speed work, just keeping a consistent pace that isn't too taxing.

Jeff, Saturday, 15 September 2012 18:21 (thirteen years ago)

Basically I don't sweat the pace too much and run what is comfortable.

Jeff, Saturday, 15 September 2012 18:24 (thirteen years ago)

That's every run for me!

these albatrosses have no fear of man (La Lechera), Saturday, 15 September 2012 19:12 (thirteen years ago)

It's a good way to run! However, I like bringing the sufferfest sometimes too.

Jeff, Saturday, 15 September 2012 20:22 (thirteen years ago)

did some sweet trail running up a big hill today, it was v beautiful outside, then a lil plyometrics when i got back

lag∞n, Monday, 17 September 2012 02:29 (thirteen years ago)

had a really shit run today and am so confused as to why? basically got a stitch about 15 mins in - excepting hungover runs, i haven't got a stitch that early since i first started running regularly! and all the conditions were optimum or normal - empty stomach, hadn't drunk in a few days, had slept well, cool weather but not cold. and yet, a fucking stitch. for no reason.

i hate it when things go wrong and i have no idea why :(

lex pretend, Thursday, 20 September 2012 15:42 (thirteen years ago)

just one of those days, happens to the best of em

lag∞n, Thursday, 20 September 2012 15:43 (thirteen years ago)

next time will be better! :)

lex pretend, Thursday, 20 September 2012 16:00 (thirteen years ago)

Last long run done. I'm so ready for this marathon I can hardly stand it.

Jeff, Saturday, 29 September 2012 14:13 (thirteen years ago)

lil plyometrics

david brooks in a wu torture skit (Hunt3r), Monday, 1 October 2012 02:07 (thirteen years ago)

so i ran for the first time since last winter. i ran while my 6 y/o rode her bike with me, it was as fun as running can be after a huge layoff.

also, haven't ridden or done anything in 6 weeks since smashing my hand. it's been... a weird layoff from exercise.

david brooks in a wu torture skit (Hunt3r), Monday, 1 October 2012 02:11 (thirteen years ago)

have been in a great groove lately. Cooler weather has helped a lot. im back up to 25 mi/wk, hopefully will get to 35 in a month or so. Loving it.

tobo73, Monday, 1 October 2012 14:20 (thirteen years ago)

^co-sign. loving autumn. back to running ~three times a week. hoping to increase distance significantly over the next few weeks. then work on my speed.

willem, Monday, 1 October 2012 14:30 (thirteen years ago)

What happened to your hand Hunt3r??

Did my first half-marathon for a couple of years yesterday. Have only been doing slow runs recently so had no idea how to pace myself, but when I went through the first two miles in less than 12 minutes, I knew I had overcooked it a bit! Ended up with 1.31 which was okay for a fairly undulating course. My hamstrings are don't feel very happy today though, I can hardly walk at all.

DJ Mooncup (NickB), Monday, 1 October 2012 14:33 (thirteen years ago)

not sure how but managed to strain my achilles (i think) & havent run in 2 weeks, almost definitely the longest ive not run in 10 yrs. might be slowly driving me mad

did see a doctorb who just said to ice it & rest and did also prescribe some physical therapy <---anyone have any experience w/ this? i guess i'll do it, im frustrated that it just hasnt improved w/ time

johnny crunch, Monday, 1 October 2012 14:37 (thirteen years ago)

Most things I've read about achilles strains recommend doing eccentric calf raises. Look them up on youtube!

DJ Mooncup (NickB), Monday, 1 October 2012 14:45 (thirteen years ago)

great real names
eccentric calf raises

these albatrosses have no fear of man (La Lechera), Monday, 1 October 2012 14:47 (thirteen years ago)

not that sort of calf u big silly!

DJ Mooncup (NickB), Monday, 1 October 2012 14:52 (thirteen years ago)

it's a portrait of syntactical ambiguity! an exercise in vocabulary development! a head missing a tail! i love it. going to use it as example in class.
sorry this has nothing to do with running.

i have not been running very much, lots of walking and biking. i think it turns out that i only enjoy running in colder temps.

these albatrosses have no fear of man (La Lechera), Monday, 1 October 2012 14:55 (thirteen years ago)

it is good: i have raised my calves eccentrically

DJ Mooncup (NickB), Monday, 1 October 2012 14:58 (thirteen years ago)

I let them sleep in my bed!

LOLOLOLOL
