Huge challenge for Dublin now, and huge challenge for RTE's live text to give any kind of useful rolling info service to a man dying for pint of harp on British train.
Dublin tend to fade as the games go on but that could be a defensive strategy at work.

Liverpool had more possession but did little with it, Sahin anonymous and Gerrard's passes not connecting, Suarez and Borini were poor. Allen and Sterling very good again though. Diaby played well, Cazorla linked play well esp with Podolski, they each had 1 goal 1 assist. Giroud not as involved as you'd hope, few chances.
― boxall, Sunday, 2 September 2012 15:53 (thirteen years ago)
Vermaelen might be an injury worry, he came off late. Defence all played well except Gibbs and Mannone I thought.

the worry about borini is that he doesn't really have a burst of pace or a trick up his sleeve, his qualities are more about anticipation and knowing-how-to-play, and the EPL isn't always friendly to players who know how to play football

Manchester City footballer Courtney Meppen-Walter has been arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving after two people died in a collision on Saturday night, sources confirmed on Sunday.
The 18-year-old was detained after a silver Mercedes and a red Nissan Micra collided in north Manchester, killing a 32-year-old man and a 37-year-old woman and leaving two teenagers, believed to be 15 and 16, with serious head injuries. It is believed Meppen-Walter was driving the Mercedes. The 32-year-old man was driving the Micra with the 37-year-old woman in the front passenger seat and the two teenagers in the back, Greater Manchester police said.

An Arsenal and England youth star was yesterday arrested at the wheel of his new £100,000 sports car.
Jay Emmanuel-Thomas allegedly failed to stop for police in the early hours.
The 19-year-old was driving a Mercedes McLaren in Wanstead, East London.
Officers smashed his windscreen during the incident and allegedly found he was unaccompanied and had only a provisional licence.

I was at Anfield today, and am frankly terrified as to how Liverpool's season is going to play out. There is nobody to score goals - Shelvey(!) looked lethal in comparison when he came on and had a couple of shots. They keep possession well enough but have few options once they reach the final third, it's either down the wing then nobody to cross to in the box, or else trying to pick their way through and failing.
Allen was really excellent and tidy; Sterling very promising but raw; Gerrard, Suarez, Reina, Enrique all poor, in increasing order of stinkiness. They were fine for twenty minutes when Arsenal looked feeble, but struggled when Arsenal found their feet.
As for Arsenal, not particularly impressed either tbh. Diaby was magnificent though, it was weird, like he had a ten-yard forcefield round him. He won everything. I think Liverpool really missed Lucas, they had nobody but Allen challenging in the middle and that's only part of his job.
Podolski fine, Arteta and Vermaelen played well; but they seemed still a bit flimsy. Giroud looked laboured.
