Shall we anticipate the FIFTH SEASON of the AMC series "Breaking Bad"? I think I may.

I thought Walter trying to explain what's going on with him by claiming to have a gambling addiction was, effectively, accurate. I miss Gus! he had style and was so entertaining, like when he's overly, excessively polite to people he completely hates

It seemed like the Chile thing was not thought out at the time and maybe they won't bother going back to it, I can't see what it would add to the show where it is right now - maybe it's better to leave it with, that's likely not his real name and there's no record. but the backstory that I guess they have to fill in is the reason this German conglomerate is involved in the drug trade and connected to Gus' operation and to what extent and how that came about?

seriously, THIS GUY (daria-g), Friday, 31 August 2012 23:02 (thirteen years ago)

i think we're better off not knowing. like you say, how much could that really add to the story at this point to find out how Gus hooked up with Madrigal, built his empire, etc. we know enough about Gus more or less

Nhex, Friday, 31 August 2012 23:06 (thirteen years ago)

I was thinking of it more in terms of - hmmm huge drug lord wouldn't kill Gus when he was nobody because he "knew who he was", implying bigger powers-that-be at work, ie, people who might come after Walt for killing Gus.

ie, Gus not the top of the pyramid

chicago rap twitter luminary (Shakey Mo Collier), Friday, 31 August 2012 23:12 (thirteen years ago)

but I'm just idly speculating, entirely likely/possible/reasonable that this is just a thread left dangling out there

chicago rap twitter luminary (Shakey Mo Collier), Friday, 31 August 2012 23:13 (thirteen years ago)

for one thing, it's a little late in the narrative to introduce an even bigger villain, so that's probably not going to happen

yeah kinda weird that we've gone 7 episodes without learning jack shit about how madrigal really works

Madrigal: the truth is out there

selling mediocre meth to Albuquerque is all part of a bigger grand plan.

mediocre?

Matt Armstrong, Friday, 31 August 2012 23:46 (thirteen years ago)

it's just your typical German fried chicken and meth conglomerate. I'm not sure what else there is to know.

The German? Maybe going to jail for a long, long time?

Josh in Chicago, Friday, 31 August 2012 23:49 (thirteen years ago)

I don't think we need to know more about Gus' backstory, best shrouded in mystery. Having said that I would watch a 'Gus rises to power' miniseries.

upstanding ppl of the community who get caught doing crimes have been known to off themselves to avoid public shame, I read his suicide as an old school honor type thing, he seemed more bummed than frightened

vincent black shadow giallo (Edward III), Saturday, 1 September 2012 00:14 (thirteen years ago)

not something we're ever gonna find out but i do wonder what gus's meth operation was pre-walt, pre-superlab.

tubular, mondo, gnabry (Merdeyeux), Saturday, 1 September 2012 00:17 (thirteen years ago)

wasnt he getting his product from the cartel

lag∞n, Saturday, 1 September 2012 00:19 (thirteen years ago)

I keep meaning to ask a dumb question: do large scale commercial labs like that actually exist? Or is most meth cooked up "Cap'n Cook" style? I know there was that big acid lab in the missle silo or whatever. What was the most impressive known meth lab that got busted?

wk, Saturday, 1 September 2012 00:49 (thirteen years ago)

i read something recently abt the veracity of breaking bad and they said super labs often much larger than the ones depicted in the show exist in mexico but not the usa

lag∞n, Saturday, 1 September 2012 00:54 (thirteen years ago)

I see. makes sense.

wk, Saturday, 1 September 2012 00:55 (thirteen years ago)

there was a massive one in the Central Valley in Cali, and another huge one in Texas (?) that I remember seeing on Frontline. The Cali one was in the middle of huge feedlot farm, kinda like Gus's chicken ranch

They always seem to be busting labs in suburban homes around where I grew up

I don't know anything about the technology, but just visually, the kind of equipment they're using on BB seems really sophisticated. This stuff looks more like what I would expect. http://stopthedrugwar.org/print/28867

I think Andy Rooney did a segment on that in '96

@methlabhomescom
2.5 million homes are thought to be contaminated with meth lab chemicals in the U.S. Are you living in a former meth lab home?

I think that is coming. Creator of the show in one of those interviews was saying the 'Darth Vader' of that German conglomerate was coming.

earlnash, Saturday, 1 September 2012 03:21 (thirteen years ago)

wouldn't gus be the darth vader and we're still waiting for the emperor?
