yeah and like I said upthread, they would have gone with Arnold if he hadn't turned out to be a liberal-coddling commie Californian

http://news.runnersworld.com/2012/08/31/paul-ryan-says-hes-run-sub-300-marathon/

In the interview, after Ryan told Hewitt that he ran in high school, Hewitt asked if Ryan still runs. Ryan replied, "Yeah, I hurt a disc in my back, so I don't run marathons anymore. I just run ten miles or less." When Hewitt asked Ryan what his personal best is, Ryan replied, "Under three, high twos. I had a two hour and fifty-something."

doesnt even know his time, dead giveaway

lag∞n, Friday, 31 August 2012 17:36 (thirteen years ago)

max, Friday, 31 August 2012 17:38 (thirteen years ago)

chicago rap twitter luminary (Shakey Mo Collier), Friday, 31 August 2012 17:54 (thirteen years ago)

dems should just get like a hundred celebrities and have them stand around on stage looking smug and w/e

lag∞n, Friday, 31 August 2012 17:57 (thirteen years ago)

Bobby-fil-A (WmC), Friday, 31 August 2012 18:45 (thirteen years ago)

Old white guy delivering rambling one-sided argument to invisible make-believe opponent in chair pretty much sums up the GOP.

Josh in Chicago, Friday, 31 August 2012 18:45 (thirteen years ago)

can i tweet that? that is so rad

Emperor Cos Dashit (Adam Bruneau), Friday, 31 August 2012 18:53 (thirteen years ago)

Great Tweet among a bunch of them posted by Sullivan: "This is a perfect representation of the campaign: an old white man arguing with an imaginary Barack Obama."

you could retweet it

lag∞n, Friday, 31 August 2012 18:55 (thirteen years ago)

Ha, I'm starting to see it or something more or less just like it pop up all over! NYtimes ed, for example. Poor take-away for the GOP.

Josh in Chicago, Friday, 31 August 2012 19:09 (thirteen years ago)

Taking Note: Imaginary Barack
The speech was the perfect distillation of the Republican campaign.

Like this, which is on the current front page of the Time site.

Josh in Chicago, Friday, 31 August 2012 19:10 (thirteen years ago)

clint eastwood is a great artist

lag∞n, Friday, 31 August 2012 19:29 (thirteen years ago)

i love clint. i will chalk it up to bad medication. how does he even act in movies these days? cgi, i guess.

scott seward, Friday, 31 August 2012 19:31 (thirteen years ago)

I haven't watched Clint yet (maybe never), but I wouldn't be surprised if he was trolling? Or, like, speaking not as a supporter of Romney but just as a grouch who isn't thrilled with Obama?

catbus otm (gbx), Friday, 31 August 2012 19:36 (thirteen years ago)

ya i suspect a lot of the strangeness did stem from his ambivalence

lag∞n, Friday, 31 August 2012 19:38 (thirteen years ago)

wish i could get clint to read that taibbi RS article on mitt the businessman.

scott seward, Friday, 31 August 2012 19:39 (thirteen years ago)

Wouldn't be that surprised if i find out later Clint votes for Obama.

Yesterday, upon a chair/ Clint met a man who wasn’t there/ How sad it is that Rowdy Yates/ Has ended up as Orly Taitz

Darren Robocopsky (Phil D.), Friday, 31 August 2012 19:45 (thirteen years ago)

Vote Mitt, I said
To no one there
And no one heard at all,
Not even the chair.

Doctor Casino, Friday, 31 August 2012 19:47 (thirteen years ago)

Once upon a convention dreary, while I listened weak and weary,
To many a quaint and curious volume of misbegotten bores,
While I nodded, nearly napping, suddenly there came a chatting,
As of some one gently speaking, speaking from my empty chair.
`'Tis the President,' I muttered, `sitting in my empty chair -
Only this, and nothing more.'

Josh in Chicago, Friday, 31 August 2012 19:55 (thirteen years ago)

lol

Doctor Casino, Friday, 31 August 2012 19:57 (thirteen years ago)

wow the knives really ARE out in the GOP

chicago rap twitter luminary (Shakey Mo Collier), Friday, 31 August 2012 20:52 (thirteen years ago)

how delicious

ayonanas (Matt P), Friday, 31 August 2012 20:53 (thirteen years ago)

Other than the Akin joke, Nothing too much new here. But grrrr, can't stand Rove.

http://www.businessweek.com/articles/2012-08-31/exclusive-inside-karl-roves-billionaire-fundraiser

“We have to keep in mind whose vote we’re trying to get—it ain’t the delegate from Alaska. It’s not the alternate from Alabama. It’s some undecided voter in the battleground state who likes the president.”

Rove spoke almost exclusively about defeating Barack Obama and retaking control of the White House. There was sparse praise for Mitt Romney—either as a candidate or as a future leader and policy maker.

curmudgeon, Friday, 31 August 2012 20:54 (thirteen years ago)

it's some kind of small comfort to know that I'm living through the self-immolation of the Republican party

chicago rap twitter luminary (Shakey Mo Collier), Friday, 31 August 2012 20:55 (thirteen years ago)

I hear you, but I hope it's a while before that phoenix comes flying out.

pplains, Friday, 31 August 2012 20:58 (thirteen years ago)

itll be v interesting to watch them attempt to pivot from their standby total racism strategy

lag∞n, Friday, 31 August 2012 21:01 (thirteen years ago)

I don't think that's going to happen, honestly. racists need a party too!

chicago rap twitter luminary (Shakey Mo Collier), Friday, 31 August 2012 21:02 (thirteen years ago)

problem is then do to demographic realties theyre conceding the presidency

lag∞n, Friday, 31 August 2012 21:05 (thirteen years ago)

yep. tbh I'd be more stoked about it if it didn't mean that the Dem party will continue to drift ever rightward as it tries to absorb more and more of the GOP voting base

chicago rap twitter luminary (Shakey Mo Collier), Friday, 31 August 2012 21:08 (thirteen years ago)

I'm honestly disappointed that the far righty party I suspected would emerge post-2010 never did. GOP elite aren't going to put up with this shit much longer though, and those factions may still be unceremoniously ejected yet.
