I don't know if people underestimate Walt so much as overestimate him. They make the mistake of assuming he's going to do the smart, rational thing and he never does.

the fact that he thought he could sit at the table and talk about 'work' with Skylar was so much equal parts sad and lol

this episode was great imho, the final scene was powerful, and ilx tv threads are the worst thing on the internet

I'm still enjoying it, but I have to say it does get a little dour and oppressive at times. I only realized this when Odenkirk came on and I felt this wave of relief. Something has to give soon, and of course, I suppose it will.

I mind of miss the sense of Albuquerque as "a character" (I realize this is a cliche) that you got in the earlier seasons. The claustrophobia of these recent episodes is pretty unrelenting, even if it is justified.

Yeah, immediately after the cold open, I was all like, "If only Walt was as legendary IRL as he is in his mind." And then I had a moment where I was all like, "Well, things do seem to unaccountably going his way." But sure enough, by episode's end, Walt did plenty to justify Mike's incredulous eyerolls.

Mike seemed genuinely impressed by how well the plan worked. "I gotta hand it to you Walter."

this is the first time walt just got mad and killed someone because they disrespected him no, thats kind of an ultimate statement of degradation

Jonathan Banks: I think Mike was trying to keep Jesse safe. I think he definitely sees good in Jesse and wants to protect him. As far as Mike letting his guard down so often this season, it's when I don't shoot Lydia in the head — if anybody had seen the half-measure speech, they're screaming at the television, "It's a half-measure, Mike! It's a half-measure." I will say again, the writers have given me this wonderful character, but whatever loopholes I might see in it, I am at the mercy of the pen. I am at the mercy of what they write.

So in your mind, do you think Mike would have let Walt bring him the bag?

Jonathan Banks: I think he would have allowed Walter to bring him the bag, but he would have made damn sure he was armed when they had any kind of conversation.

What was the atmosphere on the set like the day of your death scene?

Jonathan Banks: The crew all wore black armbands.

After two more or less perfectly written, perfectly directed episodes, we get an example of an often over-directed, over-acted (at least on Walt's part; surprised Cranson didn't direct), over-written episode. Mike deserved better, but I guess this gets the show rolling in several different directions. Beginning to think more and more that Jesse will get out alive, and he's more or less set up to kill Walt in the end, right?

Walt: "Jesse, why ... why did you do it ? ... [cough cough]

Jesse: Because you're a total asshole, Walt.

Walt: You called me ... called me .... Walt ...

Jesse fires gun. Fade to black.
