this ep was dumb
― puff puff post (uh oh I'm having a fantasy), Tuesday, 28 August 2012 17:26 (thirteen years ago)
The only level on which I still sympathize with Walt is in the way that his mind formulates plans. He's super-adaptable and great at thinking on his feet but there's absolutely no nuance or deep strategy in terms of his long-term planning, which leads to shit always falling apart and constant maneuvering around unanticipated obstacles. It's a pretty accurate depiction of how poorly I'd function in a life of crime.
― Old Lunch, Tuesday, 28 August 2012 17:30 (thirteen years ago)
agree this episode was pretty snoozy/predictable. only real lol was Walt insisting to Jesse that nobody else was going to have to die and then immediately killing another dude and putting 9 more guys on his deathlist.
― chicago rap twitter luminary (Shakey Mo Collier), Tuesday, 28 August 2012 17:32 (thirteen years ago)
snoozy?
I got lol'd at by Mr Veg for shouting at the tv when Walt shot Mike

Where did Mike get that gun that Walt took out of his hand at the end. If he had a gun all along why did he need the one that should have been in the bag?
― Matt DC, Tuesday, 28 August 2012 17:39 (thirteen years ago)
yeah I didn't get that either
― chicago rap twitter luminary (Shakey Mo Collier), Tuesday, 28 August 2012 17:39 (thirteen years ago)
seems unlikely that he'd let Walt get the drop on him if he had a gun
― chicago rap twitter luminary (Shakey Mo Collier), Tuesday, 28 August 2012 17:40 (thirteen years ago)
he had a gun w/him, he didnt need the other one it was just in his go bag
― lag∞n, Tuesday, 28 August 2012 17:41 (thirteen years ago)
idg why these things are at all hard to understand, too busy snoozing perhaps
― lag∞n, Tuesday, 28 August 2012 17:42 (thirteen years ago)
this episode was great imho, the final scene was powerful, and ilx tv threads are the worst thing on the internet
― lag∞n, Tuesday, 28 August 2012 17:43 (thirteen years ago)
so, he has a gun on him, but isn't quick enough to get to it in the time it takes for Walt to go back to his car, get his gun, and walk back to Mike's car and shoot him? okay.
xp
― chicago rap twitter luminary (Shakey Mo Collier), Tuesday, 28 August 2012 17:44 (thirteen years ago)
wow shakey maybe he didnt realize walt was gonna shoot him when he started walking back to his car
― lag∞n, Tuesday, 28 August 2012 17:45 (thirteen years ago)
mike doesn't actually go around shooting ppl he works with closely, unlike walt, why bc he has a bit of self control
― set the controls for the heart of the sun (VegemiteGrrl), Tuesday, 28 August 2012 17:47 (thirteen years ago)
mike doesn't actually go around shooting ppl he works with closely
these are the ONLY ppl he's shot iirc
― chicago rap twitter luminary (Shakey Mo Collier), Tuesday, 28 August 2012 17:48 (thirteen years ago)
mike shouldve realized walt was capable of shooting him, mike also shouldve had a better plan on how to distribute the cash to his guys, he also shouldve not left his go bag at the airport, mike fucked up a lot
― lag∞n, Tuesday, 28 August 2012 17:48 (thirteen years ago)
he habitually underestimated walt
― lag∞n, Tuesday, 28 August 2012 17:49 (thirteen years ago)
well yeah

We still haven't even learned anything about Madrigal. I want more nugget tasting scenes.
― pun lovin criminal (polyphonic), Tuesday, 28 August 2012 17:51 (thirteen years ago)
Yeah I don't think Mike thought Walt would have either the reason or the balls to shoot him.
The look of shock on Walt's face when he realised what he'd done was pretty funny.
― Matt DC, Tuesday, 28 August 2012 17:51 (thirteen years ago)
this is the first time walt just got mad and killed someone because they disrespected him no, thats kind of an ultimate statement of degradation
― lag∞n, Tuesday, 28 August 2012 17:53 (thirteen years ago)
otm
― set the controls for the heart of the sun (VegemiteGrrl), Tuesday, 28 August 2012 17:54 (thirteen years ago)
yeah he's pretty much left 'old Walt' behind now
The "say my name" speech highlighted for me one of the major reasons I love this show. I get a visceral thrill out of watching this dork continually succeed despite himself and the dumb and risky decisions he makes. All while heading toward an inevitably spectacular fall.
― wk, Tuesday, 28 August 2012 17:55 (thirteen years ago)
There's almost a Being There quality to Walt's success that's amusing and oddly believable.
― wk, Tuesday, 28 August 2012 17:57 (thirteen years ago)
I don't know if people underestimate Walt so much as overestimate him. They make the mistake of assuming he's going to do the smart, rational thing and he never does.
― wk, Tuesday, 28 August 2012 17:58 (thirteen years ago)
I loved the pleased face Walt made after he tasted the microwaved dinner.
― pun lovin criminal (polyphonic), Tuesday, 28 August 2012 18:00 (thirteen years ago)
the fact that he thought he could sit at the table and talk about 'work' with Skylar was so much equal parts sad and lol

I'm still enjoying it, but I have to say it does get a little dour and oppressive at times. I only realized this when Odenkirk came on and I felt this wave of relief. Something has to give soon, and of course, I suppose it will.
― Aceveda (admrl), Tuesday, 28 August 2012 18:05 (thirteen years ago)
I mind of miss the sense of Albuquerque as "a character" (I realize this is a cliche) that you got in the earlier seasons. The claustrophobia of these recent episodes is pretty unrelenting, even if it is justified.
― Aceveda (admrl), Tuesday, 28 August 2012 18:07 (thirteen years ago)
ya i love the sense of place
― lag∞n, Tuesday, 28 August 2012 18:08 (thirteen years ago)
I read somewhere that it was originally going to be set in suburban LA and they only shot it in ABQ because of tax breaks.
― I wish to incorporate disco into my small business (chap), Tuesday, 28 August 2012 18:31 (thirteen years ago)
yeah, Riverside County
― Number None, Tuesday, 28 August 2012 18:33 (thirteen years ago)
Riverside would've also been a good choice actually. Very similar in a lot of ways.

for awhile there (ie, when I was growing up), Fontana in neighboring San Bernardino County had the highest per capita concentration of meth labs in the country

/ Mike's eyerolls in the background behind Walt's "Say my name" standoff were so otm. Like, "THIS is your fucking plan? Great idea, asshole." /Yeah, immediately after the cold open, I was all like, "If only Walt was as legendary IRL as he is in his mind." And then I had a moment where I was all like, "Well, things do seem to unaccountably going his way." But sure enough, by episode's end, Walt did plenty to justify Mike's incredulous eyerolls.

Mike seemed genuinely impressed by how well the plan worked. "I gotta hand it to you Walter."

― lag∞n,
It's a total Tuco move... Walt has become what he professed to hate about the drug trade.

I think the implicit sentiment was "I gotta hand it to you, Walter. You actually managed to pull that off without getting yourself killed. Best of luck with this thing that, more than ever, I want no fucking part of, you arrogant lunatic."

and that's now nicely supplemented by 'mrs white'.

thinking about it, walt had TWO break-ups in this episode. and todd's his rebound. but... we know how rebounds usually go
