what if poll closing dates didnt turn red until x hours/days before

could "show images" be on-page rather than or, in addition to, being in preferences? i shift between the two very regularly either image or youtube-heavy threads. maybe others do, too?

flopson suggested this some time back and I still think this would be massively handy, if it is at all easily done.

Yeah zing not having search, or the random function, is slightly frustrating for me. I use random when I'm bored but thats usually when i'm in bed and thus, using my iphone :( I know stet explained something on the zingthread as to why its not there but I forget now.

I thought of one this morning: if the default search results ordering option was "newest first" rather than "most relevant first". I dunno, I guess there could be some argument for the way it is, but that's not how I use search.

being able to hide threads from boards we don't care about (like, I really don't give a hoot about cricket, NFL, baseball etc) would be awesome.

ah i didn't know about that, but strangely I must have seen it before because all the sports threads are unticked and still I'm sure I get a lot of them appearing in my feed. Maybe not?

I get sports threads appearing in my feed on Mobile Device Interface sometimes, but not when I'm ilxing on a computer.

zing you cant customise SNA on i think is why.

You can customise SNA on Zing -- just swipe right to left on any board you want to remove, and it'll hide on SNA too.

Still want to be able to page people to threads, by saying @stet what do you think? or something.

ugh man pplains spoiler tags are always annoying and poorly implemented, plus then you get arguments about spoiler enforcement and blah blah, creates more problems than it solves

people should when spolarized just think to themselves 'thus is life' and proceed w/an unshakable sense of equanimity

when I read a spoiler I just tell myself "all that will be has become"

OK, instead of a single "Skipping x messages at this point... Click here if you want to load them all" link, maybe we can paginate them? For example, if x = 100, then we could jump to page 1 or page 2 (assuming each "page" contains 50 messages).

Sorry, was reply to the late great. When I first got iPad I kept on thinking "where is app for [website x with iPhone app]?" before realising I could just use the website.

i just thought it would be cool to be able to swipe back and forth and around the way facebook works on ipad or whatever

i find web clumsy because if i miss my click-point i get an automatic zoom in on, i dunno, someone's funny emoji or a date/time stamp or formatting help

Ability to use search function to search within a thread, as opposed to just single thread title or post. For example, a Within Threads search for

pizza AND tacos

would bring up threads in which one post reads "pizza" and a separate post reads "tacos".

PLEEEASE. I've been begging for this for, let's see, 26 months now.

What I'm asking here is, Stet, what would we have to do to make this happen? I would happily double my annual contribution to the server funding drive.

i'm not sure giving more money for the server would generate free time for someone to add a "Hide Thread" feature

would be possible with a greasemonkey script (cf user killfile) EXCEPT for the method of specifying the threads you don't want to see, which would be trouble.

i envisage the same thing would be trouble if done on server (although similar to bookmarks)

the bigger question is "what does a Hide Thread feature look like?"

- how is the functionality invoked?
- how do you unhide a thread?
- is there a limit on the number of threads you can hide?
- is this functionality invokable on a batch of threads or only one at a time?
- what happens if you hide a thread you have previously bookmarked?
- are hidden threads removed from search results for threads/posts?
- are hidden threads removed from blog view?
- can a user follow a link in another thread to a hidden thread, or should the hidden thread always appear as if it has been deleted?
- are hidden threads filtered out of all locations (New Questions, Site New Answers, board answers) or are they left in some locations?
- if you post to a thread, then hide it, should that post appear when clicking "My Recent Posts"?

etc etc etc

site new answers and boards have the threads as <li> and a greasemonkey script would typically search through all these and hide the <li> which have a link in them to a hidden thread.

i'd put a link next to these list items that'd hide the thread in question. unhiding it would be more difficult.

search results are different, bookmarks are different, recent posts are different. but, i'd argue, all those are places you'd want to see 'hidden threads' - you've potentially gone looking for them. (and could help with the unhiding)

blog view isn't and would have to be a special case.
