Shall we anticipate the FIFTH SEASON of the AMC series "Breaking Bad"? I think I may.

point stands, Mike talks boss talk but all you gotta do for Mike to let you off the hook is ask nicely

Yes, I say I can't wait to see more Mike putting guns to people's faces, then exhaling and putting it away. Only time so far he's been comfortable pulling the trigger has been on one of his own men!

pplains, Monday, 20 August 2012 15:15 (thirteen years ago)

well it helps the odds if the guy you're pulling on is the star of the show! but your point stands, they've somewhat painted themselves into a corner with Mike as tough guy when he's got such a blind spot and pushover nature when walt is concerned

"Batshit crazy," the foam clog tycoon said. (forksclovetofu), Monday, 20 August 2012 15:18 (thirteen years ago)

thats just mikes character i think is the point

lag∞n, Monday, 20 August 2012 15:19 (thirteen years ago)

its not like the show tried and failed to deliver a badass hitman

lag∞n, Monday, 20 August 2012 15:20 (thirteen years ago)

At this point, I think Mike would've let Krazy-8s off the hook.

pplains, Monday, 20 August 2012 15:22 (thirteen years ago)

"But wait! I'VE GOT A PLAN."
*Drops gun. Sighs* "mmm-kay?"

pplains, Monday, 20 August 2012 15:23 (thirteen years ago)

he doesnt really want to kill people, can you blame him

lag∞n, Monday, 20 August 2012 15:27 (thirteen years ago)

if you look back to mikes first big turn his half measures speech its all there, that sort of thinking isnt necessary if youre a cold blooded killer, and keep in mind the whole story was about protecting someone, not something yr everyday sociopath loses too much sleep over

lag∞n, Monday, 20 August 2012 15:29 (thirteen years ago)

mike maybe wants to be this decisive all business criminal, he certainly wants to project that image, but really he just wants everything to run smoothly and to not be bothered

lag∞n, Monday, 20 August 2012 15:31 (thirteen years ago)

This might be reaching, slightly, but I would also guess that Mike is generally more aware of the fact that Walt has a family (and therefore more hesitant to take that ultimate step) than Walt is himself, at this point.

Old Lunch, Monday, 20 August 2012 15:36 (thirteen years ago)

If anything, Mike should know by now Walt's family would be better off without him.

pplains, Monday, 20 August 2012 15:37 (thirteen years ago)

Which Walt is totally aware of and willing to exploit as a "weakness" (see also: glomming on to the fact that Jesse is likely to get in the middle of any conflict he has with Mike and save his bacon).

I'm sure Lydia's kid is arguably better off without her, too, but that didn't put a damper on the softer side of Mike.

Old Lunch, Monday, 20 August 2012 15:39 (thirteen years ago)

"You will be made whole. Unless making you whole would involve actually hurting somebody, I can't be doing that, but you will be made whole." --Mike, to his dudes in lockup

steven fucking tyler (underrated aerosmith bootlegs I have owned), Monday, 20 August 2012 15:57 (thirteen years ago)

episode was ok but the way Walt was left alone in the warehouse at the crucial moment was so contrived. it's not like some emergency came up, Mike knew he had to go meet Saul, wouldn't he just get someone to watch over Walt for an hour? you spend the entire night with him and then you're like "welp, gotta go, let me tie you up with this flimsy plastic thing."

dmr, Monday, 20 August 2012 16:47 (thirteen years ago)

or just handcuff both hands

lag∞n, Monday, 20 August 2012 16:48 (thirteen years ago)

also why did he need to have that meeting w/hank if hed already lost his trail

lag∞n, Monday, 20 August 2012 16:49 (thirteen years ago)

btw i saw an ep of the mentalist last night where hank played a cop

lag∞n, Monday, 20 August 2012 16:49 (thirteen years ago)

i think maybe the lazy handcuffing was suposed to demonstrate mikes habitual underestimation of walt, which will eventually kill him

lag∞n, Monday, 20 August 2012 16:51 (thirteen years ago)

also why did he need to have that meeting w/hank if hed already lost his trail

I thought the point was that Mike WAS still being tailed all the time and the temporary restraining order bought him 24 hours with no tail (but once that 24 hours is over they will be trying to nail him twice as hard)

dmr, Monday, 20 August 2012 16:55 (thirteen years ago)

^yeah, i believe that was what happened, so he could have that time to do the deal and settle all his accounts before leaving town

Nhex, Monday, 20 August 2012 16:57 (thirteen years ago)

when this series ends, i am requesting a wrap up where we make a list of all the inaccurate prognostication across all BB threads

naw he was at meth hq so that means he had lost his tail, unless he had to go home or something theres no way the cops wouldve found him

that would be v entertaining, yes

some dude, Monday, 20 August 2012 17:18 (thirteen years ago)

xp well considering he was planning on doing a deal that involved presumably carting a thousand gallons of methylamine behind his car, he probably decided he was better safe than sorry.

so, on the innacurate prognostication front, i guess walt is going to try to get into business with mike's contacts?

4'33" (dubstep remix) (Merdeyeux), Monday, 20 August 2012 17:19 (thirteen years ago)

i boldly predict hes going to pretend to go into business w/mikes contacts and then kill them

lag∞n, Monday, 20 August 2012 17:20 (thirteen years ago)

Whatever ultimately happens to the dudes from Phoenix, Walt's looking to expand his territory and he's likely to pull it off. That's my prognosticaysh.

Old Lunch, Monday, 20 August 2012 17:24 (thirteen years ago)

incidentally and PERHAPS SLIGHTLY *SPOILERY*, the last episode of this half-season is called 'gliding over all', and there's a walt whitman poem called 'gliding o'er all'. read it at your peril.

I watched an ep of Malcolm in the Middle yesterday and it's bizarrely prescient - Hal/Walt convinces his wife to steal a $10,000 cheque from Malcolm and instead of using it to fix the pipes in the house (PIPES! Didn't Walt go fixing the pipes or the floor in an early ep?) he wants to buy a boat. Little Dewey gets drawn into the scheme and says 'I vote we vote!' a la Jesse last week.

kinder, Monday, 20 August 2012 19:50 (thirteen years ago)

what was jesse's look about when walt was whistling?

'how can you be so inhuman?'?

skrill xx (cozen), Monday, 20 August 2012 19:54 (thirteen years ago)

Of late, Jesse winds up playing the role of confused/anxious kid caught in the middle of every interpersonal dynamic he's drawn into.

Old Lunch, Monday, 20 August 2012 19:56 (thirteen years ago)

So I have a feeling that his arc is going to be about him finally getting some agency over the forces around him.

Old Lunch, Monday, 20 August 2012 19:57 (thirteen years ago)

well he's not really the bad guy. and it took awhile for him to get there but our allegiances as an audience are intended now to be more with jesse than walt

"Batshit crazy," the foam clog tycoon said. (forksclovetofu), Monday, 20 August 2012 19:58 (thirteen years ago)

i still kind of find if funny how Walt used to refer to Mike as the psychopath. times change!

yeah he just saw how full of shit walt was saying he hasnt slept and is all torn up over the dead kid

lag∞n, Monday, 20 August 2012 20:06 (thirteen years ago)

Yeah when Walt said that he was awake all night I was like 'pfft, no you weren't' and then I realised, no, he actually probably wasn't and how did that happen?

kinder, Monday, 20 August 2012 20:09 (thirteen years ago)

Just watched this - oh, such a good episode. I now think there is no chance Mike is surviving this series. Also, it's perhaps the first ep with Walt being in serious (internal) danger - previously he's been saved by his ability to cook (even if Jesse can do it himself): but now his partners want to leave all he is is an obstacle. I can't think of any way in which everyone wouldn't have been better off if Mike had killed him rather than sellotaping him to a radiator.
