the last couple of eps have been particularly cinematic, i think - either in style (like the episode where he childminded the weird kid, where the camera seemed to frame around louie's body at every shot, the movement all expansive & fluid; or the last episode with it's claustrophobic score amid his trip to his father's place, all breathless and tense), & in content, like with the vignettes at the chemist or at the russian tea room, languorous and tonal, moodpieces. so to see him play w/continuity more strictly is really exciting. my kinda ~overriding theory~ with this season is that bc louis started writing & shooting w/o a stockpile of standup to draw from & make 3d, he's concentrated on developing other aspects more fully - so a bunch of it is about way broader behavioural stuff, much of it comically falls back on some kinda autopilot LCK stuff, & it's interested in exploring just tone & variety & scenarios & scenery way more than usual.

The last episode was kinda funny to me in that I've been playing alot of GTA and the end of the show he just starts running in the street, steals a cool motorcycle, rides to the city, then steals a boat, and it's basically like playing that game.

I loved that uncle's joke. "He was this kind of man!"

Going back to the Parker Posey thing, yeah maybe she's not technically a MPDG or whatever but her entire character was thinking of something zany, Louie saying "No, i dont want to do that" and her getting him to do it anyways. The made-up stories she told and occasional dark aside don't make her seem deep, just tailored to the alt audience. Honestly there was very little i liked about her character.

Central theme of the season is that Louie needs to grow some balls imo.

The F Murray Abraham part was great. Condom analogy had me in tears.

no kidding, this is one of the weirdest characters in a series full of 'em. I can see why Abraham was brought back.

loved the Chloe half, second half was yawnz

yeah this freaked me out a little. also its a shame chloe sevigny couldnt become a regular character, i was loving her in that role. but i guess that end works too.

i'm just not as excited about this show as i used to be. i preferred it when the continuity was more donald duck: new day, new set of characters, a few recurring but only insofar as they hold a single spot in the pantheon.

I was getting some mild grief around here a few weeks ago for saying that i don't think this season is that great...I was hoping someone might agree that last night's episode was indisputably weak,

I liked this one fine. Wish they'd done more with Chloe I guess, but I liked the daughter stuff a lot.

pamela is daisy duck. parker posey is more like some random duck who leaves too big of an impression.

just rewatched the first episode of the season; confirmed my sense that the first three were by far the best

yeah the Thayer cameo was so weird. You can barely even see her!

caught myself in the security monitor at a cvs and was reminded of how otm that scene was where they're watching the footage of louie tripping over the box at the electronics store. "that's not me!"

i get way too much into this show, when he said "Letterman is retiring" I audiablly gasped

huh this ep was the first of 3 parts & pt 2 doesnt air til 9/13

this was some of what the show does best and worse: amazing payoff but so much weird aimless filler for a twenty minute program.

I don't know about filler, but an episode of Louie seems so much shorter than say, an episode of Two and a Half Men, which is a good indicator of its quality. I think the aimless stuff is pretty important!

i stan for this show as much as anything but the whole waking up in the hotel room sequence was tons of wind up for no reason.
This season is less exciting for me though the highs are ridiculously high

Garry Marshall monologue may have been the finest moment in this series holy shit

hotel wake-up was worth it for "not even enough time to jerk off"

also guessing that it's not airing next week because they're taking a week off for Labor Day? idk

i assume the hotel scene was what forks was referring to, but the phone bit was funny, plus I thought it kind of showed how out of the blue the whole thing was

This episode was almost nothing. More commercials than ever before. The thinnest of plots, and we don't even get to see the Leno performance that gets him the interview. I feel cheated...however...the waking up scene was good (shit on a dick, don't even have time to jerk off) and Doug the agent is always fun to watch and seems to have been air-lifted in from a Wes Anderson movie.

Doug is funny but it's weird that they just re-use a 30 Rock joke
