Shall we anticipate the FIFTH SEASON of the AMC series "Breaking Bad"? I think I may.

Watching this episode again, I timed the end of it. The kid, the wave, the reaction shots, the killing: 45 seconds. Talk about precision. They changed the whole season in 45 seconds.

Jesse and Walt pull off a caper but it ends up making things worse for them? Yeah holy shit neevr seen that before.

ʘ (sic), Thursday, 16 August 2012 07:15 (thirteen years ago)

It's kind of the overall theme of the show, and stuff.

cue "White Rabbit" (kenan), Thursday, 16 August 2012 07:49 (thirteen years ago)

nah man they changed the whole season

ʘ (sic), Thursday, 16 August 2012 13:56 (thirteen years ago)

lol sic i know right

some dude, Thursday, 16 August 2012 14:02 (thirteen years ago)

I feel like most of their capers have been huge successes with not much blowback?

Matt Armstrong, Thursday, 16 August 2012 17:04 (thirteen years ago)

Well, their other big caper this season ultimately (and pretty much only) resulted in Mike taking a much larger percentage of their haul, which is a pretty serious source of friction. The train heist will probably wind up roughly the same way (a success that ultimately isn't worth the cost of said success).

Old Lunch, Thursday, 16 August 2012 18:43 (thirteen years ago)

My assumption is that it will not prove difficult for them to dispose of a dead body and a motorcycle.

no, their other caper forced Mike to stay in the business.

Matt Armstrong, Thursday, 16 August 2012 18:59 (thirteen years ago)

I mean yeah they could be off on their own without having to pay the prison dudes a cut, but without Mike they'd be using Badger to be their main dealer or something.

Matt Armstrong, Thursday, 16 August 2012 19:00 (thirteen years ago)

if only...

Number None, Thursday, 16 August 2012 19:03 (thirteen years ago)

I'm really wondering what direction they will go in for the conclusion: leave Walt penniless and broken but reunited (unhappily) with his family, or leave him successful and victorious with everyone else in his life gone or dead.

Josh in Chicago, Thursday, 16 August 2012 19:03 (thirteen years ago)

it must end badly

conrad, Thursday, 16 August 2012 19:07 (thirteen years ago)

he will die. Gilligan has pretty much said so

Number None, Thursday, 16 August 2012 19:08 (thirteen years ago)

No satisfaction there. Once again, may I point out "The Shield" as the perfect punishment for hubris.

Josh in Chicago, Thursday, 16 August 2012 19:09 (thirteen years ago)

if they continue with the traditional blunt Breaking Bad foreshadowing, he's gonna go down in a hail of bullets Scarface-style

Nhex, Thursday, 16 August 2012 19:09 (thirteen years ago)

He's also said they're not letting him off the hook easily, so I expect some kind of colossal humiliation and awakening to just quite how horrible a person he's become.

steady there, I haven't finished The Shield yet

Number None, Thursday, 16 August 2012 19:12 (thirteen years ago)

Ha, I keep reading things like "This is like what happened in Season 2 of The Wire" and I'm all SHUT UP SHUT UP SHUT UP I CAN'T HEAR YOU.

The "success" which resulted in the retention of Mike's services is what's commonly referred to as a short-term gain. I think once we've seen the long-term consequences of choosing to not just chillax with Badger on a low-key tip, it's going to look like anything but a win.

Old Lunch, Thursday, 16 August 2012 19:27 (thirteen years ago)

i think it might end badly for them yeah

Number None, Thursday, 16 August 2012 19:28 (thirteen years ago)

I think Mike is doomed, but I can imagine a scenario where Walt's arrogance gets the best of him. I wouldn't be shocked if he takes out MIke at the end of this mini season, leaving next mini season for everything to fall apart.

Josh in Chicago, Thursday, 16 August 2012 19:30 (thirteen years ago)

I have a feeling that this last leg of Breaking Bad will serve as a really useful object lesson whenever I start to arrogantly balk at my own life's "two steps back" equivalent of Walt's refusal to start cooking with pseudephedrine again.

That's a decently put-together compilation video. (Though I would have done it differently, starting with the swelling music.)

But if I were trying to sell someone on the series who didn't know anything about it, I think I'd pick this clip.

I do wish you could lose the subtitales, but whatever. It kicks ass. And so does the song.

Cranston on How I Met Yr Mother as a broken down divorcee architect who designs penises.

There comes a time when an actor becomes a role and it kinda freaks me out when he is anyone else.

a hoy hoy, Saturday, 18 August 2012 13:10 (thirteen years ago)

i think it may have been mentioned on another BB thread, but cranston in "malcom in the middle" when they go to burning man! wow that guy can really do comedy

messiahwannabe, Saturday, 18 August 2012 13:28 (thirteen years ago)

As another clearly super-talented and multilayered actor playing a TV dad on an okay sitcom that isn't really my cup of tea, I'm looking forward to Ty Burrell's future foray into Cranstonville.

Old Lunch, Saturday, 18 August 2012 13:46 (thirteen years ago)

Love that episode, specifically Hal's thread (Malcolm doing the nasty with Rosanna Arquette ain't so hot though).

i wish ed o'neill got a chance to go full cranston when he was in his prime, he probably could've blown some people away with the right role

WheatusVEVO (Hungry4Ass), Saturday, 18 August 2012 16:01 (thirteen years ago)

if his part in Wayne's World is any indication then yes

O'Neill almost played Al Swearengen in Deadwood.

balls, Saturday, 18 August 2012 19:01 (thirteen years ago)

As thrilling as the train heist was, it's bits like tonight's dinner scene that really make this show for me.

I'm increasingly convinced that they're actually gonna make it to the finish line without stumbling (i.e. that thing that always happens where an otherwise great show is hobbled by a weak final season(s)).

Old Lunch, Monday, 20 August 2012 03:11 (thirteen years ago)

Also: Skyler hearing about her affair from Marie, the explicit revelation of the probable roots of Walt's ambition, Mike fucking with the DEA... Just an embarrassment of great stuff.

And whoever gave me a line of snark re: my suggestion that Walt might use Todd to get at Mike's guys...seems like Todd has someone on the inside! We'll just have to see where that choice little tidbit leads, now won't we!

Old Lunch, Monday, 20 August 2012 03:21 (thirteen years ago)

great, great episode. the only thing that's bugging me is Mike's kind of completely exposed now. he tries to sell himself as this very expert operator who's so tough that the people who crossed him aren't around any more to say how thoroughly he dealt with them, etc etc, but the actual fact? Mike lets literally everybody off the hook, always. Mike is Mr. Second Chance. Dude like Mike lets Todd live because of Todd's uncle's prison connections? Come on, now.

So that element is farce, but fuckin A, the dinner scene (with probably unintentional echoes of a dinner scene in Taxi, the meetup with the Phoenix meth dudes, Walt's justification & how infuriating it is but how you can get that if you look at it from the right angle...just tremendous.

steven fucking tyler (underrated aerosmith bootlegs I have owned), Monday, 20 August 2012 03:23 (thirteen years ago)

Yeah, Walt is infuriating at least in part because he's every viewer's tendency to rationalize bullshit thoughts/beliefs/actions taken to its logical extreme.

Old Lunch, Monday, 20 August 2012 03:31 (thirteen years ago)

seriously half-assed job by Mike restraining Walt. u rly think methguyver won't find his way out of that come on man

Matt Armstrong, Monday, 20 August 2012 04:14 (thirteen years ago)

really wondering what the hell Walt's plan is in the next episode, nothing occurs to me other than killing all the phoenix dudes and taking the money. Maybe selling them fake methylamine?

Matt Armstrong, Monday, 20 August 2012 04:15 (thirteen years ago)

Ha ha. While he was half-assedly securing Walt to the radiator, I was all like, "Aww, c'mon, Mike! You know he's Dark MacGyver!"

Old Lunch, Monday, 20 August 2012 04:19 (thirteen years ago)

i couldn't stop laughing through the whole dinner scene

Nhex, Monday, 20 August 2012 04:22 (thirteen years ago)

I thought the whistle while you work scene was really funny too
