I have heard "Call Me Maybe... much more than three times (ugh thx dad)

See I'm sure I've been someplace where Gotye has been playing, but it's a pretty inconspicuous song, esp. compared to fun. or CRJepsen. Both those songs are primed for maximum penetration, I hear them coming from passing cars, etc.

None of them was nearly as overplayed as "Empire state of mind", NYC, June 2010, hoa

i like the Gotye song bc it makes me feel like it is something my dad and i would have listened to in the car together in 1987

if I got it right both times I went, one doesn't so much "do Miami" as "spend time sunbathing on South Beach and reclining in cabanas"

It's actually fun., I think, lower case. I saw them play a slick, pre-fame set in London in 2010, it was very slick and earnest and I distinctly thought "this band ain't going nowhere but back to America".

Poor precognition is par for the course for me, though, saw Nickelback in 2000 play to an empty bar in Toronto and thought "nope"

but u know what, just to get this out there, i think that pop music -- it may masquerade as vapid, when a lot of it is really just a reflection of the dichotomy btw intense emotion and superficiality present in all of us. and as music in general often suggests, this tension is heightened by sexuality, which attempts to bridge the profound with the physical.

i mean, for dates it's different, but for "fun", it is necessary for me to swap a bunch of images. i don't want anyone to be disappointed, and a surprising number of guys misrepresent. i border on misrepresentation in the opposite direction sometimes and undersell, so as to leave room for a happy surprise. but yeah if we're going to be getting that close, i would like to see all there is to see upfront.
