are they all in prison? There's just nine guys who are broke and pissed, and some of them are in prison, I thought.

several of them are at least -- mike posing as an 'intern' & wanting 2 visit them all in a single day

Things I am increasingly worried the writers will just forget about/not bother with:

- Who Gus actually was and why even Mike can't find any trace of him before he came to America.
- Who if anyone was behind Gus/Madrigal that was so scary/important that the head of a Mexican drug cartel wouldn't kill Gus.
- That thing about Walt standing back and allowing Jesse's girlfriend to die (okay, they will probably cover this one).

You guys are reading a hell of a lot into a character who's so far uttered about three lines. And shot a kid, admittedly.

they cast someone well known and it has that instinctive feel of tv telling you something is important.

esposito dropped some hints that he'll be back in flashback, which makes me think we're going to learn a bit more about the whole gus/madrigal nexus

Because its the one that directly fucked up the life of his partner who he's been manipulating ever since. Because there's been a dramatic tension simmering away there between the two of them ever since that would be weirdly unsatisfying if it to remain unresolved. Because the relationship between the two characters/actors is the best thing about the show. And because it would completely turn Jesse against Walt once and for all and would lead to a confrontation that would make amazing TV.

I'm kind of facepalming at Mike, Walt and Jesse for involving Todd at all. Before shooting the kid he just had this look of someone who's going to fuck them all over somehow. That line of 'Wow you guys have thought of everthing' and Walt & Jesse just grinning like vultures like 'why yes Todd, we have haven't we'... YOU GUYS

xposts yeah.... the novices corralled into working for our antiheroic trio turn out to be way more cold-blooded than they are.. when lydia explains to walt why she put the hit on mike you can see a kind of respect for the logic pass over him

Yeah that too. But Jesse was pretty emotionally fucked up by his girlfriend dying next to him while he was asleep, regardless of whether it got him off heroin or not.

xpost - yeah killing Gale as well. But one of the things that's basically kept him going other than having a new girlfriend is the sense that Walt has got his back even though that's wrong.

The whole episode was pretty clunky (BUT EXCITING) except for the final minute or so which was just awesome.

It was the opening heist from the movie Heat, you guys. Whoever pointed that out was OTM. It's like the Scarface reference, which people on this thread jumped all over for being too obvious, but don't you get that they're just fucking with us?

I mean to my mind there is no way Lydia knows that much about the train to be able to detail it all out Asphalt Jungle-y style, no way they have predicted that the train would stop on the bridge, no reason why Todd would be involved at all (even red-head is kinda weird--isn't he Saul's guy?), even the scene in Hank's office seemed a bit forced, but it's easy to shrug all of that off cuz it was still gosh darn exciting.

Speculating about a hypothesis: Walt sees Todd's coldblooded willingness to do whatever's "necessary" as an asset worth retaining. Mike wants to put a bullet in Todd, but Walt talks him down on the basis of Todd misinterpreting Walt's edict to keep the heist among themselves and insists that (after turning the kid into a barrel of human slurry) they continue business as usual. This will be the beginning of the end of Jesse's involvement, though, because it's already well-established that he has no tolerance for unnecessary killing (particularly of kids). He barely wanted to come back in the first place, and Walt's hard-won emotional manipulation will start to slip as Jesse begins to realize that he values the life he was just starting to build for himself with Andrea and Brock much more than this world he's gotten sucked back into. Walt will see this as a threat and that might be where Todd comes into play. Also, he's still using Lydia to find an angle on Mike. Maybe he can use Todd to take care of Mike's nine guys?

Yeah, that was a plot hole.

Also, that train was unrealistically short. One engine and what, 30 cars? Trains are more likely to be 2-3 engines and at least 100 cars. Economize that fuel shit, yo.

Not necessarily. Depending on the length of the trip, 1 engine/30 cars is realistic. xp
