It's a very mild disappointment, mind.

Todd didn't get the memo that they're a chemistry teacher/goofy student team with hijinks. He thinks they're actual criminals.
― your native bacon (mh), Tuesday, 14 August 2012 14:35 (thirteen years ago)
occasional methodical pace and careful attention to detail were among its greatest strengths.
Yes. More recently it's like INGENIOUS IDEA, BAM, executed, next. I'm not sure it would have taken a lot to give us a little more setup w/ this one, though, I mean 5-10 mins. like w/ the junkyard magnet drill. Especially because Walt and Jesse were so smug abt the whole plan w/ Todd, like YEP WE ARE AMAZING
― Hadrian VIII, Tuesday, 14 August 2012 14:38 (thirteen years ago)
that's when i knew it was all going to go wrong, although I thought they'd end up killing the engineers in some messy way that made things very difficult for them
even when they execute, like with the magnet, it ends up setting them back like 10 steps
― TracerHandVEVO (Tracer Hand), Tuesday, 14 August 2012 14:47 (thirteen years ago)
Jesse and Walt have the flash and the chops but Todd is gonna be what puts them over the top, their Steve Nash or Richard Starkey, doesn't need the spotlight and ready to fuck somebody up.
― Hadrian VIII, Tuesday, 14 August 2012 14:56 (thirteen years ago)

Magnet worked out great, mike lost all his money and is forced to work for Walt
― Matt Armstrong, Tuesday, 14 August 2012 15:04 (thirteen years ago)
we'll see how that goes when mike and walt turn on each other and somebody has to kill or pay off those 9 dudes in prison
― Nhex, Tuesday, 14 August 2012 15:05 (thirteen years ago)
Jesse loves kids and relates to them. Mike has a soft spot for kids. Walt has no feelings & Todd is an idiot. This event will put Jesse permanently on the other side of everybody, except maybe Mike.
― steven fucking tyler (underrated aerosmith bootlegs I have owned), Tuesday, 14 August 2012 15:07 (thirteen years ago)
also the 9 guys in prison form a band and it becomes the feel-good story of the yard, they play every day and people dance and get their aggressions out. they are made whole by ~music~
― steven fucking tyler (underrated aerosmith bootlegs I have owned), Tuesday, 14 August 2012 15:08 (thirteen years ago)
Is Todd really an idiot though? He's got that wide-eyed naif thing going, but W&J were basically walking directly into prison if he didn't tip them re: nanny cam.
― Hadrian VIII, Tuesday, 14 August 2012 15:14 (thirteen years ago)
Ha, so Todd is the Furio of the gang. Didn't see that one coming, but you may be onto something.
― pplains, Tuesday, 14 August 2012 15:14 (thirteen years ago)
Crushing hard on Todd now, something abt the way he kills children
― Hadrian VIII, Tuesday, 14 August 2012 15:18 (thirteen years ago)
No, man, Todd is the Waingro of the operation.
― Josh in Chicago, Tuesday, 14 August 2012 15:35 (thirteen years ago)
good thing hank just picked up heat on blu ray
― johnny crunch, Tuesday, 14 August 2012 15:36 (thirteen years ago)
"Is Todd really an idiot though?"
He's very clearly not an idiot.
― Fig On A Plate Cart (Alex in SF), Tuesday, 14 August 2012 15:44 (thirteen years ago)
You guys are reading a hell of a lot into a character who's so far uttered about three lines. And shot a kid, admittedly.
― Matt DC, Tuesday, 14 August 2012 15:45 (thirteen years ago)
xp I'm sure they intentionally picked an actor that looks like he just fell off the potato truck, though.
― cue "White Rabbit" (kenan), Tuesday, 14 August 2012 15:46 (thirteen years ago)
up until the kid-shooting, i thought Todd could have been an undercover.

are they all in prison? There's just nine guys who are broke and pissed, and some of them are in prison, I thought.
― Matt Armstrong, Tuesday, 14 August 2012 15:50 (thirteen years ago)
several of them are at least -- mike posing as an 'intern' & wanting 2 visit them all in a single day
― johnny crunch, Tuesday, 14 August 2012 15:52 (thirteen years ago)
Things I am increasingly worried the writers will just forget about/not bother with:
- Who Gus actually was and why even Mike can't find any trace of him before he came to America.- Who if anyone was behind Gus/Madrigal that was so scary/important that the head of a Mexican drug cartel wouldn't kill Gus.- That thing about Walt standing back and allowing Jesse's girlfriend to die (okay, they will probably cover this one).
― Matt DC, Tuesday, August 14, 2012 1:27 PM (2 hours ago) Bookmark Flag Post Permalink
-probably will come out with the second one-I'd be shocked if we never meet this dude-the only resolution to this is Walt confessing, and why do we NEED to see that? He has so many sins to confess, why this one?
― Matt Armstrong, Tuesday, 14 August 2012 15:53 (thirteen years ago)
they cast someone well known and it has that instinctive feel of tv telling you something is important.
― Know how Roo feel (LocalGarda), Tuesday, 14 August 2012 15:53 (thirteen years ago)
esposito dropped some hints that he'll be back in flashback, which makes me think we're going to learn a bit more about the whole gus/madrigal nexus
― TracerHandVEVO (Tracer Hand), Tuesday, 14 August 2012 15:55 (thirteen years ago)

Because its the one that directly fucked up the life of his partner who he's been manipulating ever since. Because there's been a dramatic tension simmering away there between the two of them ever since that would be weirdly unsatisfying if it to remain unresolved. Because the relationship between the two characters/actors is the best thing about the show. And because it would completely turn Jesse against Walt once and for all and would lead to a confrontation that would make amazing TV.
― Matt DC, Tuesday, 14 August 2012 15:56 (thirteen years ago)
it didn't fuck up jesse's life at all, it saved his life
― Matt Armstrong, Tuesday, 14 August 2012 16:00 (thirteen years ago)
hey you know what would turn Jesse against Walt "I poisoned Brock"
― Matt Armstrong, Tuesday, 14 August 2012 16:02 (thirteen years ago)
todd is well-known?

this is otm... also see lydia earlier in the episode... "you don't want to murder two people? i thought you were professionals!?!"

What's he well known for? Friday Night Lights?
― Fig On A Plate Cart (Alex in SF), Tuesday, 14 August 2012 16:03 (thirteen years ago)
well known on ILX
― Matt Armstrong, Tuesday, 14 August 2012 16:04 (thirteen years ago)
and among people who watch AMC shows, prob.
oh thats who it is
― Author ~ Coach ~ Goddess (s1ocki), Tuesday, 14 August 2012 16:05 (thirteen years ago)
Yes Friday Night Lights! also btw this is the second murder that Landry has been directly involved in.
― set the controls for the heart of the sun (VegemiteGrrl), Tuesday, 14 August 2012 16:05 (thirteen years ago)
i just don't think they'd be lingering on him as they are and then just kill him off.
― Know how Roo feel (LocalGarda), Tuesday, 14 August 2012 16:05 (thirteen years ago)
maybe jesse will finally stop calling him 'mr white' and this informality will enrage walt to the point where he confesses all.
― nashwan, Tuesday, 14 August 2012 16:05 (thirteen years ago)
i'd have said killing gale was a bigger prob for jesse than jane dying.
― Know how Roo feel (LocalGarda), Tuesday, 14 August 2012 16:07 (thirteen years ago)
I'm kind of facepalming at Mike, Walt and Jesse for involving Todd at all. Before shooting the kid he just had this look of someone who's going to fuck them all over somehow. That line of 'Wow you guys have thought of everthing' and Walt & Jesse just grinning like vultures like 'why yes Todd, we have haven't we'... YOU GUYS
― set the controls for the heart of the sun (VegemiteGrrl), Tuesday, 14 August 2012 16:07 (thirteen years ago)
xposts yeah.... the novices corralled into working for our antiheroic trio turn out to be way more cold-blooded than they are.. when lydia explains to walt why she put the hit on mike you can see a kind of respect for the logic pass over him
― TracerHandVEVO (Tracer Hand), Tuesday, 14 August 2012 16:08 (thirteen years ago)

Yeah that too. But Jesse was pretty emotionally fucked up by his girlfriend dying next to him while he was asleep, regardless of whether it got him off heroin or not.
xpost - yeah killing Gale as well. But one of the things that's basically kept him going other than having a new girlfriend is the sense that Walt has got his back even though that's wrong.
― Matt DC, Tuesday, 14 August 2012 16:09 (thirteen years ago)
right. hindsight is obv 20/20 but one wld think mike would pull in some trusted young gohard instead of a vamanos pest dude theyve known for a day or w/e and who saul said his name as todd

truck breakdown/train sequence was v exciting

― Author ~ Coach ~ Goddess (s1ocki), Tuesday, 14 August 2012 16:25 (thirteen years ago)
Clunky as in not making entirely logical sense. The episode was very well-crafted/acted/written.

It was the opening heist from the movie Heat, you guys. Whoever pointed that out was OTM. It's like the Scarface reference, which people on this thread jumped all over for being too obvious, but don't you get that they're just fucking with us?
