Longtime ILXors - how has this board changed over time?

These days the only guy who makes fun of me is a magazine editor, I feel like I've moved up in the world.

I never followed/understood what the deal was with Dom but I could not stand Ethan, that guy was an asshole

If I remember correctly Ethan had both great taste in rap and IDM, that's the most positive thing I can think of.

i kinda bypassed ethan almost entirely on ilx. i just never interacted with him. i guess we travelled in different circles. he didn't go on noize board at all i don't think. he's my facebook friend though. along with chaki and jon and roger adultery. a veritable rogues gallery.

X-post I never really got on his bad side but I steered clear of early era rap threads precisely because of him.

Actually I still stay out of goon threads despite listening to almost as much rap as they do.

i guess i favor interesting/charismatic over civil/boring when it comes to ilx personas and will forgive certain unpleasantries along those lines. dom never struck me as interesting/charismatic though. you know who i miss who is an "asshole?" history mayne.

see someone revived that beth parker thread and i was just thinking of her and how i have almost no contact with her at all anymore. she never even posts anything on facebook. and we saw her all the time when we lived on the vineyard and she's one of maria's best friends from there. we kinda got her hooked on ilx. maybe she hasn't forgiven us.

i never had anything to do with dom either. i never understood his controversial status. just never went on threads he was on. they were all like britpop or melody maker threads, i guess? i have no idea.

someone 'explained' dom to me the other day, i didn't quite know who he was, i think in 30 years it will be like when tales were told of legendary highwaymen & poachers who lived in a simpler time, whose mythic status we still puzzle over, intersect with

There was a very brief period when a handful of Chicago Reader staffers -- Ann, Br1an Nemtus@k, and M@rtha B@yne -- were posting semiregularly. I can't quite remember what prompted it, though I think it might have to do with the fact that Kenan was buddies with ex-Reader writer Neal Pollack.

It just occurred to me we probably need an ilx wiki or at least glossary

I wonder how much of this is just down to raw numbers of posters but I have no idea, really, how many active users there are now versus three years ago, five years ago, seven years ago...is there any kind of database that would give a sense of that?

i kept track for a while. i know, i know. before our last sandbox sidetrip we had over 3,000 registered users. today it's 2,386.

it has felt to me like a smaller but still busy community these past few years.

I didn't really interact with him, but reading him in some threads he struck me as a kind of redneck cop trying to nightstick people into not discussing or liking hip hop he found distasteful. Fuck the police.

I thought he was really annoying when he was still here, but when I come across his posts, he doesn't seem that bad. He got sbanned for something REALLY stupid, like an image bomb iirc, and just never came back. Meanwhile we've had dudes get sbanned 3 or 4 times and they rise up posting again like it was nothing.

One thing, was ethan black or white or what? He was definitely one of those dudes who pointed out racism regularly (oh, if he were here now to see the IS IT RACIST thread), and I got the impression he was coming to it from a personal perspective. But a while ago someone said something that gave me the impression that he was white. And also, he never posted in the wdylls. Fuck, who was that? Anyway, someone here has met him, I'm sure?
