EZ - it'll happen, it'll happen! should try and talk to David today about it, when i finish this next batch of photos for flickr...
― Doctor Casino, Thursday, 9 August 2012 20:46 (thirteen years ago)
lol Andrew, you realize you're talking about a group of IRL friends/roommates right
― keeping things contextual (DJP), Thursday, 9 August 2012 20:47 (thirteen years ago)
I understand ILM had some men, as long as they were willing to act like effete britishers
― your native bacon (mh), Thursday, 9 August 2012 20:47 (thirteen years ago)
I understand the noize board had some girls, as long as they were willing to act like boys.
this is super super wrong btw
― O_o-O_O-o_O (jjjusten), Thursday, 9 August 2012 20:48 (thirteen years ago)
iirc ilm was like 300 dudes and 20 women, the noize bord was like 25 dudes and 5 women.
― goole, Thursday, 9 August 2012 20:48 (thirteen years ago)
RIP Bill Magill

girls act like boys act like girls act like boys AOW OH-OH AH OH-OH
― set the controls for the heart of the sun (VegemiteGrrl), Thursday, 9 August 2012 20:54 (thirteen years ago)
next version of ilx really should include some option to wire threads with explosives from the get-go so that in the event of an impending clusterfuck nightmare you can just nuke the whole thing from orbit, aaaaaaaghhhhh
― Doctor Casino, Thursday, 9 August 2012 20:54 (thirteen years ago)
I thought that the "act like boys" thing was totes tom? And I was on the noise bored but not one of the posters who made it cool or w/e, I was conscious that I was "less" "cool" than the dudes. Pret sure they only tolerated me bc we hung out irl.
― check the name, no caps, boom, i'm (Laurel), Thursday, 9 August 2012 20:56 (thirteen years ago)
"otm" not "tom," obviously. New computer has not learned the ways yet.
What does it mean to act like a boy then, Laurel?
*adjusts balls, pokes functionless nipples*
― emil.y, Thursday, 9 August 2012 20:58 (thirteen years ago)
I wanna go back to how Tom was a girl who acted like a boy
― keeping things contextual (DJP), Thursday, 9 August 2012 20:59 (thirteen years ago)
haha

I should stop purposefully diluting the thread by posting single line laughs in order to subvert it to the zing-era paradigm.

hahaha I love this idea. I've no stake in this; stayed away from noize cuz seemed like a bunch of dudes on a constan injoke spiral (but moreso than ILX in general). I may have been wrong, it seems! But I will never know.
― she started dancing to that (Finefinemusic), Thursday, 9 August 2012 21:00 (thirteen years ago)
i wouldn't call the latter a core requirement tbh
― mookieproof, Thursday, 9 August 2012 21:01 (thirteen years ago)
You ever notice how TOMBOT is one letter away from TOMBOY? The keys are even next to each other. I'm just saying.
― Trewster Dare (jaymc), Thursday, 9 August 2012 21:01 (thirteen years ago)
stayed away from noize cuz seemed like a bunch of dudes on a constan injoke spiral (but moreso than ILX in general). I may have been wrong, it seems!
this is the most accurate description of the noise board I've seen tbh
I do not deny though that there was some horribly abusive behavior that spun out of those injokes
― keeping things contextual (DJP), Thursday, 9 August 2012 21:02 (thirteen years ago)
the impenetrability of the "best animal friends", "lol tubmlr", and "VAPEZILLA!" threads is really keeping the drawbridge down, not sure how anyone would understand that board
― your native bacon (mh), Thursday, 9 August 2012 21:02 (thirteen years ago)
Earnestness, out. Feelings, out. Verbosity, out. Zinging harder and faster and more meanly or cleverly = the way to be in. Treating sexism/racism/bigotry like we could have joeks about it because we were "post-" all that now, that was in, too.
― check the name, no caps, boom, i'm (Laurel), Thursday, 9 August 2012 21:03 (thirteen years ago)
i think 2007 was a really ugly year for ilx. people seemed to be in an ugly mood. the ridiculous level of shit hurled at LJ didn't help
― dell (del), Thursday, 9 August 2012 21:04 (thirteen years ago)
In person, or on board? x-p
― your native bacon (mh), Thursday, 9 August 2012 21:04 (thirteen years ago)
I mean there were different eras, obvs, and I experienced it through my own (lol earnest) lens so of course maybe other people don't think that what I just said was true or as operative as it seemed to me.
― check the name, no caps, boom, i'm (Laurel), Thursday, 9 August 2012 21:05 (thirteen years ago)
Just on board, really!
i - gasp - agree w/ laurel on that + actually i think ilx 2012 is best incarnation of ilx
― Mordy, Thursday, 9 August 2012 21:06 (thirteen years ago)
so everyone basically acted like Dr. Morbius
― your native bacon (mh), Thursday, 9 August 2012 21:06 (thirteen years ago)

See, I agree this stuff was Noize boardy (actually I never noticed the latter point, but I wasn't a regular Noizer so probably just missed a lot of it), but I don't see how it is "acting like a boy".
― emil.y, Thursday, 9 August 2012 21:07 (thirteen years ago)
because women can't be mean in the same way
― your native bacon (mh), Thursday, 9 August 2012 21:08 (thirteen years ago)
acting like a 10 yo boy, maybe
xp
― Harvey Cartel (Shakey Mo Collier), Thursday, 9 August 2012 21:08 (thirteen years ago)
emil.y otm too - ladies can be just as zingy, mean + clever as boys.
― Mordy, Thursday, 9 August 2012 21:08 (thirteen years ago)
Although I think Laurel just described the in crowd of the movie "Mean Girls"
i saw that mean girls movie
xp DAMNIT
the reverse-lookism is what really bothered me
― dell (del), Thursday, 9 August 2012 21:09 (thirteen years ago)
It's acting like boys are stereotyped to be, duh. The fact that it's "dude"-ish and was carried to ridiculous extremes was part of the actually very layered joke, it was largely a performance but sometimes in some ways NOT a performance, etc etc. But it got kind of up its own ass after a while with the layers and for people who were being lazy or not as smart as the others, it was easier to just actually BE sexist or bigoted.
― check the name, no caps, boom, i'm (Laurel), Thursday, 9 August 2012 21:09 (thirteen years ago)
I admit I may be a few beers in and that may kinda been trolling for fag bashers - and a hit!
Girls who act like boys are the best, btw - girls who don't are also good, no hate for either of them. Socially enforced gender roles can bite me, on the other hand.
Vegemitegrrl wins the thread though! I am perhaps mistaken in thinking that Boys & Girls would be more welcome on one board or the other? Come on - trial of Lot - find me ten righteous dudes people on Noize with something good to say about Blur and I'll cop to being wrong.
I admit a lot of my issues are, well, my issues - the rise of noize came at a time when I was getting very disillusioned with the younger generation as well, and overlapped with the rise and rise of Vice. Post Occupy I'm more aware that some of the kids are alright after all.
― Andrew Farrell, Thursday, 9 August 2012 21:09 (thirteen years ago)
Haha and I have entirely been xposted into irrelevance, carry on, carry on.
― Andrew Farrell, Thursday, 9 August 2012 21:10 (thirteen years ago)
lol old but I was going to say "you all are making the noise board sound like 'Heathers' + HTML"
― keeping things contextual (DJP), Thursday, 9 August 2012 21:10 (thirteen years ago)
if anything, it has been my experience that snarky mean cutting remarks is more stereotypically female than male (who stereotypically have trouble expressing themselves) --> NOT THAT ANY OF THESE THINGS ARE ACTUALLY TRUE DISCLAIMER
― Mordy, Thursday, 9 August 2012 21:11 (thirteen years ago)
if those are your feelings, they are valid, of course -- who can argue with that
― mookieproof, Thursday, 9 August 2012 21:12 (thirteen years ago)
it's that slippery slope thing, where you act like you're that way as a pose, but then it kind of worms its way in. I always think of the Lester Bangs article about his friends being controversially "racist" or "intolerant" but in doing so they were being the same sort of assholes they were posing as
― your native bacon (mh), Thursday, 9 August 2012 21:13 (thirteen years ago)
it's like having a party where everyone does coke "ironically" and then the whole thing gets out of hand
― dell (del), Thursday, 9 August 2012 21:14 (thirteen years ago)
funny you say that
― your native bacon (mh), Thursday, 9 August 2012 21:15 (thirteen years ago)
agree with andrew. hope that vice magazine sensibilities are dying a peaceful death as this decade moves on
xpostlol...
― dell (del), Thursday, 9 August 2012 21:16 (thirteen years ago)
man i think i posted on a very different noize bored than the rest of yall. thats not meant as a dismissal of laurels thoughts at all, she has way more validity than i do wrt to this because duh i am a dude.
― O_o-O_O-o_O (jjjusten), Thursday, 9 August 2012 21:17 (thirteen years ago)
i dont actually mean validity there was looking for another word but im tired and thats my excuse
