I went to look up wiki to see where it is now made (I thought Kraft still had the factory in Port Melb?)

And ey oop, I found this:

US denies Vegemite ban

Trayce (trayce), Wednesday, 25 October 2006 02:40 (nineteen years ago)

(I thought Kraft still had the factory in Port Melb?)

you can see it from the west gate freeway!

electric sound of jim [and why not] (electricsound), Wednesday, 25 October 2006 02:41 (nineteen years ago)

electric sound of jim [and why not] (electricsound), Wednesday, 25 October 2006 02:42 (nineteen years ago)

I mean dont you love how the Herald-Snu jumped on this story even though it seems to have been an unsubstantiated crock? No one else reported it.

Trayce (trayce), Wednesday, 25 October 2006 02:42 (nineteen years ago)

Trayce (trayce), Wednesday, 25 October 2006 02:43 (nineteen years ago)

Steinlager tastes like vegemite. Sorry for confusion.

S- (sgh), Wednesday, 25 October 2006 03:05 (nineteen years ago)

electric sound of jim [and why not] (electricsound), Wednesday, 25 October 2006 03:09 (nineteen years ago)

I dunno, my cousin came through last week and brought 6 tubes of Vegemite, and had no problems whatsoever. (Tubes of vegemite? Wtf?)

luna (luna.c), Wednesday, 25 October 2006 03:15 (nineteen years ago)

we brush our teeth with it

electric sound of jim [and why not] (electricsound), Wednesday, 25 October 2006 03:18 (nineteen years ago)

For that savage glow.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Wednesday, 25 October 2006 03:19 (nineteen years ago)

WTF, Ned? Is that some sort of Pauline Hanson remark?

.

.

...

;-)

Pleasant Plains /// (Pleasant Plains ///), Wednesday, 25 October 2006 03:47 (nineteen years ago)

Yeah the tubes are weird. I think they're meant to be for picnics or something, I dunno.

A little vegemite in a roast beef gravy is a *great* flavour boost, akin to adding worcestreshire sauce. Goes nice similarly in soups too.

Trayce (trayce), Wednesday, 25 October 2006 03:57 (nineteen years ago)

GET MARMITE INSTEAD ... you can buy that shit on amazon!

Eisbär (llamasfur), Wednesday, 25 October 2006 03:58 (nineteen years ago)

What sort of koala booster are you, Tad? ;P

Trayce (trayce), Wednesday, 25 October 2006 04:29 (nineteen years ago)

the three people in the US who eat vegemite are weeping this loss greatly

kyle (akmonday), Wednesday, 25 October 2006 04:52 (nineteen years ago)

Except, there isn't one, because it isnt banned.

Trayce (trayce), Wednesday, 25 October 2006 04:55 (nineteen years ago)

I give this a week before it gets a SNOPES entry hehe.

Trayce (trayce), Wednesday, 25 October 2006 04:55 (nineteen years ago)

channel ten was reporting it as well today, including the doubt over the veracity of the rumour. they said it was definitely true but people could still bring it in to the US because customs have never been required to search bags for it. who knows how credible channel ten is though. i don't care too much because there is no ban here!

gem (trisk), Wednesday, 25 October 2006 06:12 (nineteen years ago)

Yeah Ive since read a retuers that said there always has been some kind of import restriction (this isnt the same thing as a sudden new ban of course) but people can bring stuff in anyway. Dunno which is right but I bet there hasnt been some recent full on ban specifically because "it has folate in it".

Trayce (trayce), Wednesday, 25 October 2006 06:23 (nineteen years ago)

folatio joke in 10... 9...

gwynywdd dwnyt fyrwr byychydd gww (donut), Wednesday, 25 October 2006 06:42 (nineteen years ago)

sunny successor (katharine), Wednesday, 25 October 2006 11:24 (nineteen years ago)

I give this a week before it gets a SNOPES entry hehe.

How about one day?

Elvis Telecom (Chris Barrus), Wednesday, 25 October 2006 22:35 (nineteen years ago)

I was pretty pissed off about this for a minute

Thomas Tallis (Tommy), Wednesday, 25 October 2006 23:08 (nineteen years ago)

Wow, Snopes are fast.

Ass gone bad.

Thermo Thinwall (Thermo Thinwall), Thursday, 26 October 2006 19:01 (nineteen years ago)

It tastes like apple butter, but without the apple or butter flavor.

Pleasant Plains /// (Pleasant Plains ///), Thursday, 26 October 2006 19:09 (nineteen years ago)

two months pass...
This looks like it's the only Vegemite thread, so I'll pretend it's a CLASSIC OR DUD thread:

CLASSIC.

Aimee introduced me to it, and I've mostly been having it on toast with butter, but my favorite use for it by far is on a cheeseburger, preferably with some sort of spice (habanero Cheddar, for instance, or hot sauce in addition to the Vegemite and cheese). Also good on roasted potatoes, and I've just had a bowl of glass noodles with roast pork, roasted asparagus, Vegemite, and a little demiglace to thin it out.

Tep (ktepi), Wednesday, 17 January 2007 16:53 (nineteen years ago)

You are the only person I know who would ever even think of that.

luna (luna.c), Thursday, 18 January 2007 00:14 (nineteen years ago)

Well, I was reading a blog entry about someone eating noodles with Maggi in Malaysia, and Maggi's in that class of Thick Brown Umami Condiments with Marmite/Vegemite/etc, so I figured what the hell.

Dinner tonight: pimento cheese-stuffed burger with Vegemite.

Tep (ktepi), Thursday, 18 January 2007 00:29 (nineteen years ago)

Late happy bday Veg!!!!

still love a bit of veg on toast, klassik

werewolves of laudanum (VegemiteGrrl), Tuesday, 18 April 2023 05:13 (three years ago)

I didn't really like Vegemite as a kid. But when I was living in France I developed this real craving for it and used to go on a pilgrimage to the only shop I knew in Paris, somewhere on the Left Bank, where you could buy it. Now, it's about the only thing I like to put on toast. The mysteries of Vegemite!
