Assuming the show is at Space, I think he's been there before?

Trewster Dare (jaymc), Tuesday, 7 August 2012 18:00 (thirteen years ago)

i'm not sure if i'm the owl or the mouse but either way this picture sums up my mood today and probably for the rest of the week

From a Telecaster message board (lol):

I had the pleasure of seeing RT play it in person at a tiny venue here in Evanston, IL last year. My seat was maybe 15 feet away from RT, and it was really amazing to see him at work from up close like that.

Actually, I just remembered how I knew that he'd played there before -- before we saw Contagion last fall in Evanston, some guy behind us was talking about how he'd taken his dad to the Thompson show.

Nick, your tape measure got me turned away from the courthouse. So I hid it at Starbucks. I'll send you a map.

A brigade of emergency vehicles just pulled into the bus stop at Western/Armitage & a Firefighter asked waiting passengers what the emergency was. Nobody knew and they started to pull out, which caused a Camry to swerve and nail a flatbed, crushing the Camry's hood, so the FD an paramedics and cops didn't waste a trip after all!

Dan, what is your post about?

Je55e, Wednesday, 8 August 2012 19:35 (thirteen years ago)

does the image not show up any more?

DX Dx DX (dan m), Wednesday, 8 August 2012 20:06 (thirteen years ago)

It does, but I wondered if it was in reference to a real life thing.

Je55e, Wednesday, 8 August 2012 20:08 (thirteen years ago)

This is a good idea.

ms. cookie (carl agatha), Wednesday, 8 August 2012 20:52 (thirteen years ago)

Oh, yes, that is a good idea! It would be nice to have lockers for shipments from other companies and for just storing stuff, too (a borrowed tape measure, for example).

Je55e, Wednesday, 8 August 2012 20:57 (thirteen years ago)

yes. sarah had to go to the ups facility on the near southside to pick up one package, and my parents' birthday present to evie was sent back to amazon and had to be reshipped to my work, because now there's no one home to pick up packages during the day.

congratulations (n/a), Wednesday, 8 August 2012 21:27 (thirteen years ago)

I know from personal experience that Sarah's employer is fine with their employees receiving packages at work. Poor Jeff is like a pack mule sometimes.

ms. cookie (carl agatha), Wednesday, 8 August 2012 21:30 (thirteen years ago)

Fantastic idea.

I learned tonight that the Atlantic (just down Lincoln from Hidden Cove) is having Saved By the Bell trivia coming up soon. I did not mentally imprint the date/time.

Anyone heard of a bar called W@ng'5? It's on Broadway across from Ping Pong. Yelp reviews go back to 2008, but I hadn't heard of it until it started blowing up on my Facebook. Apparently it's a semi-secret gay bar that that is under investigation by the IL Dept. of Human Rights for having a policy of men only after 11:00. Anyone heard of it?

Je55e, Thursday, 9 August 2012 05:08 (thirteen years ago)

If they really do have that policy, I'm surprised at some of the guys who Liked it on FB since they are pretty enlightened and safely presumed feminists.

But then again, there has to be some kind of consideration for how the human rights act is applied in settings like sex clubs, which perhaps this place becomes after 11, so maybe who knows.

Je55e, Thursday, 9 August 2012 05:21 (thirteen years ago)

Misread that as "W@ng Five." Like Hang 10.

Earth, Wind & Fire & Alabama (Eazy), Thursday, 9 August 2012 05:33 (thirteen years ago)

I can't decrypt the web search proofing.

Jeff, Thursday, 9 August 2012 11:01 (thirteen years ago)

A coworker gave me some Gold Bond hand sanitizer moisturizer and I used it and then looked at the active ingredient, which is benzethonium chloride and now I swear I can feel bacteria becoming antibiotic resistant on my hands and growing into superbugs as I write this.

In other news, why did Jay Cutler name his child Camden? It would be like naming a kid Gary as in Gary, IN if Gary wasn't already a name.

Anyone want to go see vanilla ice on Sunday? http://www.playerssports.net/bigdig

Jeff, Thursday, 9 August 2012 21:40 (thirteen years ago)

ha it's $5. That certainly more reasonable than the $35 or whatever to see Better than Ezra at the zoo. But I guess that was also a fundraiser.

ms. cookie (carl agatha), Thursday, 9 August 2012 21:42 (thirteen years ago)

if you guys are going, i'll go
why not
for real, the other day i was listening to the radio and ice ice baby came on and not only did i know all the words, i could sing them and i also? also i enjoyed it.

nicest bitch of poster (La Lechera), Thursday, 9 August 2012 21:45 (thirteen years ago)

Stop.

ms. cookie (carl agatha), Thursday, 9 August 2012 21:46 (thirteen years ago)

Collaborate and listen.

ms. cookie (carl agatha), Thursday, 9 August 2012 21:46 (thirteen years ago)

Do you all want to know something about Jeff? He sings that song a lot more than you think he does.

ms. cookie (carl agatha), Thursday, 9 August 2012 21:47 (thirteen years ago)

will it ever stop?

nicest bitch of poster (La Lechera), Thursday, 9 August 2012 21:48 (thirteen years ago)

yo i don't know

nicest bitch of poster (La Lechera), Thursday, 9 August 2012 21:48 (thirteen years ago)

true confessions time: when i was in high school and constantly taping songs off the radio, i used to wait and wait for it to come on so i could listen to it by myself in peace. one time it came on and i taped over the tape of songs i taped from the local "modern rock" station, so what i wound up listening to for years whenever i felt like listening to that tape was "stone cold yesterday" (lol) interrupted by about 2/3 of ice ice baby, and then (i think) "beach bump" by baby ford.

good times

nicest bitch of poster (La Lechera), Thursday, 9 August 2012 21:49 (thirteen years ago)

just yesterday I was singing "ice ice baby" to myself in the shower, only I was crooning it. It was pretty cool.

doctor, doctor, give me the news (askance johnson), Thursday, 9 August 2012 21:52 (thirteen years ago)

my friend gave me the vanilla ice tape for my 11th? 12th? birthday and i kept it hidden from my parents because it had the parental guidance explicit lyrics sticker on it and a couple of the songs were dirty.

congratulations (n/a), Thursday, 9 August 2012 21:53 (thirteen years ago)

dr aj's on the scene just in case you didn't know it

nicest bitch of poster (La Lechera), Thursday, 9 August 2012 21:55 (thirteen years ago)

I taped songs off the radio regularly from 1990 to 1992. I think I ended up with about 14 cassettes (of varying lengths, probably). Anyway, I'm pretty sure "Ice Ice Baby" was on one of the first of those tapes, along with Snap!'s "The Power" and Tony! Toni! Tone!'s "Feels Good" and whatever else was hot in late 1990.

Trewster Dare (jaymc), Thursday, 9 August 2012 21:57 (thirteen years ago)

"on THE first," rather.

Trewster Dare (jaymc), Thursday, 9 August 2012 21:59 (thirteen years ago)

did someone say 1990?

nicest bitch of poster (La Lechera), Thursday, 9 August 2012 22:01 (thirteen years ago)

Back in 2003-04, when I first started getting into pop music again and blogging about music, I really wanted to dig up those tapes, but alas, I couldn't find them at my parents' house. I'm guessing they were thrown out at some point when I wouldn't have cared about their preservation as much.

Trewster Dare (jaymc), Thursday, 9 August 2012 22:01 (thirteen years ago)

i have all mine but my tape player just broke! like just about a month ago ;_;

nicest bitch of poster (La Lechera), Thursday, 9 August 2012 22:03 (thirteen years ago)

I think I used to "rap" ice ice baby on the school bus in middle school. Perhaps I was famous for it among my peers.

doctor, doctor, give me the news (askance johnson), Thursday, 9 August 2012 22:03 (thirteen years ago)

I really wish I'd at least have written down the track lists somewhere. My tastes were fairly indiscriminate back then (I was in middle school) -- Europop jams next to power ballads.

I only had a couple of tapes of the radio like those, made in the late 80s, one labelled "A" and one labelled "B". I think they may still exist somewhere. If I ever have a house or whatever I'm going to get all the shit out my mother's basement and have a party.
