a regina spektor is haunting europe (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Sunday, 5 August 2012 22:45 (thirteen years ago)

I would be so happy to suspend present exchanges for the rest of my life.

The last time I ate a Big 3 burger was at Wendy's about 20 years ago, and it stayed *up* for about 45 mins.

Pangborn to be Wilde (Dr Morbius), Monday, 6 August 2012 00:06 (thirteen years ago)

Not only do I not eat fast food anymore, I don't even get what is pleasurable abt eating fast food anymore.

I think my greatest fast food experience was when I was my lung collapsed and after three weeks of hospital food, someone brought me Wendy's and it was ~the greatest~.

REV LION (The Reverend), Monday, 6 August 2012 03:13 (thirteen years ago)

Yo, McDonald's ice cream tho. Just sayin'.

Grease Jones (scottfree), Monday, 6 August 2012 03:41 (thirteen years ago)

Pro tip: bribe the McFlurry Artist with 50 cents for extra candy in your flurr.

Grease Jones (scottfree), Monday, 6 August 2012 03:53 (thirteen years ago)

sometimes mcdonalds are just the ticket. zagat's favors wendy's, which i can get on board with too.

Je55e, Monday, 6 August 2012 05:10 (thirteen years ago)

So, McDonalds, Wendy and ...? Harvey's? Do you guys have Harvey's in the US? Or does that not count as fast food because they make their burgers fresh on the grill or whatever.

I always assumed that Hardees is what America has in place of Harvey's.

If y'all can put a Starbucks on every corner I think it's OK we put a Timmy's in Milwaukee

Ówen P., Monday, 6 August 2012 14:25 (thirteen years ago)

Five Guys, Smashburger and Culvers are the "acceptable" options in Minnesota. And White Castle.

Eric H., Monday, 6 August 2012 16:05 (thirteen years ago)

We just got a few Five Guys in Montreal but I had no idea what they were. I'm not normally a burger person, but are they any good?

twinkin' and drinkin' and ready to fly (Alex in Montreal), Monday, 6 August 2012 16:10 (thirteen years ago)

This is such a strange turn of conversation for the thread.

twinkin' and drinkin' and ready to fly (Alex in Montreal), Monday, 6 August 2012 16:10 (thirteen years ago)

They are supposed to be the best I think; I'd love to try one but balk at the idea of spending $6 for a burger.

the mandy moorhols (Stevie D(eux)), Monday, 6 August 2012 16:11 (thirteen years ago)

happy birthday, stevie!

a regina spektor is haunting europe (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Monday, 6 August 2012 16:12 (thirteen years ago)

Kinda into Chipotle. Lol @ this from Marketplace: "...we're in what you might call 'the Chipotle economy,' which is that people want to feel like they're paying McDonald's prices but they're getting Chili's."

Grease Jones (scottfree), Monday, 6 August 2012 16:14 (thirteen years ago)

And they make me feel adequately subversive by playing Feist and Grizzly Bear (jk)

Grease Jones (scottfree), Monday, 6 August 2012 16:16 (thirteen years ago)

(they do play that stuf tho)

Grease Jones (scottfree), Monday, 6 August 2012 16:16 (thirteen years ago)

What does that quote even mean? Also ty alf!

the mandy moorhols (Stevie D(eux)), Monday, 6 August 2012 16:20 (thirteen years ago)

They want to feel like they're paying McD's prices but are actually paying Chili's? Or they want to feel like they're paying McD's prices but getting that high-caliber Chili's quality?

the mandy moorhols (Stevie D(eux)), Monday, 6 August 2012 16:26 (thirteen years ago)

Omg Steve I just realized I can show you the excellent Central Saint Martins collection this way:

Grease Jones (scottfree), Monday, 6 August 2012 16:29 (thirteen years ago)

They want to feel like they are paying McDonald's prices but are as fashionable as a Starbucks customer.

Grease Jones (scottfree), Monday, 6 August 2012 16:30 (thirteen years ago)

Required reading for fully appreciating that collection: http://juliasherman.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/09/ShermanJ_ArtistProjectHabit_Cabinet_2011.pdf

In 1947, Mother Benedict introduced an alternative denim “work habit” in solidarity with the American blue-collar worker. A progressive, self-reliant farming and artistic community, they live by the motto ora et labora (prayer and work), and each member is encouraged to find her professional and artistic calling so that she can better serve the community as a whole.

wait - A&W is a Canadian thing too?!? Seriously?

Wait, I was going to say that we have A&W here (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/A%26W_Restaurants) but the: A&W is a Canadian fast food restaurant chain. It was originally part of the U.S.-based A&W Restaurants chain, but was sold to Unilever in 1972, and then bought out by management in 1995. It no longer has any connection to A&W operations outside Canada.

The Canadian menu has some similarities to the current offerings of the American chain, but (not surprisingly given their independent management) also diverges in many respects. The only Burger Family product currently available by name in U.S. locations is the Papa Burger, although it differs significantly (adding lettuce, tomato, and cheese slices which are not included by default on the Canadian product). However, the American "Original Bacon Cheeseburger" appears to be almost exactly equivalent to the Teen Burger available in Canada. Notable products on the U.S. menu not available in Canada include deep-fried cheese curds, cheese fries, and soft serve-based products such as sundaes.[5]

Lol "teen burger"

Would you believe me if I told you that I'd never heard of this place until today?

(seriously, I haven't)

to welcome jer.fairall, pie is served. (jer.fairall), Tuesday, 7 August 2012 00:27 (thirteen years ago)

when i was in seattle with theo (and also where i met the rev), we were always joking about stuffing ourselves with Dick's: http://www.ddir.com/ (not bad, insanely cheap).

never been to five guys. never been to a chipotle. never been to a panera. mcdonald's coffee is okay if there's nothing else around (sometimes happens, weirdly). otherwise, i stick with the local burger stands and taco joints. (only been to an in-n-out twice in my life).

for reasons of sass (the table is the table), Tuesday, 7 August 2012 19:07 (thirteen years ago)

i don't get the in-n-out thing tbh

half-worm inchworm tapeworm (donna rouge), Tuesday, 7 August 2012 19:13 (thirteen years ago)

In-N-Out was the most "that's it?" experience I've ever had with fast food, even with the obvious adjusted expectations.
