Sitting in a sketchy mcdonalds waiting for the boy to leave the border and get back to Montreal because I'm supposed to pick him up dinner but customs is taking longer than anticipated and I don't want it to be cold. Haha. As j0rdan just told me 'the things we do for love...'
But seriously this is a super sketchy mcds. It is in the basement level of a building on a main bar street and has. No real street presence.

Hmm. My bf used to eat McDs twice a week. He was diagnosed with high cholesterol at age 27. "Give up bacon? I'd rather *die*" That was eight years ago, he's a fresh juice and yoga kind of guy now.
― Ówen P., Sunday, 5 August 2012 12:09 (thirteen years ago)
does McDonald's even serve real bacon?
― a regina spektor is haunting europe (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Sunday, 5 August 2012 12:14 (thirteen years ago)
Whatever it's made of, he used to love it. I started buying raw almonds and forcing them on him, sneaking them into smoothies and so forth.
About six months ago I roused him out of bed to join me for a yoga class, "we bought you a yoga mat and you've never used it." He stomped around the house, pouting, "I hate yoga." But he came to the class and fell in love, started going all the time. Now he's at the gym every day, yoga three times a week, shakes and steamed kale and gluten-free and so forth. He called me excitedly yesterday to tell me he'd been measured at 8% body fat. (Is that good? I don't know. He was super happy about it.)
― Ówen P., Sunday, 5 August 2012 13:34 (thirteen years ago)
Oh, raw almonds, eaten daily, in case you didn't know, have been shown to be as effective in reducing bad cholesterol levels as prescription meds.
― Ówen P., Sunday, 5 August 2012 13:35 (thirteen years ago)
JF is young enough that he's still at that stage where he can eat and metabolize pretty much anything. Damn 21 year olds etc. He's the one on my case about yoga and eating properly and I should be better about listening to him. And I should probably eat more almonds or do yoga.

Yeah it's good to start in your 20s you won't regret it, just think of the most beautiful arms that've ever served you a meal and know they can be yours
― Ówen P., Sunday, 5 August 2012 14:06 (thirteen years ago)
25 is going to be a banner year. Or the death of me. Lol.

Less than a month until quarter life crisis time!
― twinkin' and drinkin' and ready to fly (Alex in Montreal), Sunday, 5 August 2012 14:10 (thirteen years ago)
imo, quarter-life crisis is a myth, an excuse to navel-gaze through your mid 20s. Saturn's return, however, is real and mustn't be underestimated
― Ówen P., Sunday, 5 August 2012 14:12 (thirteen years ago)
The best times of my life were between 25 and 30.

I would feel so much better of the weather were between 25 and 30. Fucking humidex.

Question: Stevie D thought of something but never gave me a present for my birthday months ago; am I a turrible bf because I'm not getting him one? (Of course I know he'll see this, so maayybe this is just me setting him up for a grand surprise tomorrow ;) [it isn't])
― Grease Jones (scottfree), Sunday, 5 August 2012 20:20 (thirteen years ago)
I've probably eaten McD's once in the past five years
― REV LION (The Reverend), Sunday, 5 August 2012 21:46 (thirteen years ago)
The lowest I'll stoop is Wendy's and even then only maybe twice a year.
I do admit I have a special affinity for their junior bacon cheeseburger even as I realize how gross it is.
― REV LION (The Reverend), Sunday, 5 August 2012 21:47 (thirteen years ago)
The last time I ate McD's was last July at 5:30am after sleeping on the ground in the woods and it stayed down for about 45 min

Wait - what are the Big Three?

I would be so happy to suspend present exchanges for the rest of my life.
The last time I ate a Big 3 burger was at Wendy's about 20 years ago, and it stayed *up* for about 45 mins.

Not only do I not eat fast food anymore, I don't even get what is pleasurable abt eating fast food anymore.

I think my greatest fast food experience was when I was my lung collapsed and after three weeks of hospital food, someone brought me Wendy's and it was ~the greatest~.
― REV LION (The Reverend), Monday, 6 August 2012 03:13 (thirteen years ago)
Yo, McDonald's ice cream tho. Just sayin'.
― Grease Jones (scottfree), Monday, 6 August 2012 03:41 (thirteen years ago)

Pro tip: bribe the McFlurry Artist with 50 cents for extra candy in your flurr.

sometimes mcdonalds are just the ticket. zagat's favors wendy's, which i can get on board with too.
― Je55e, Monday, 6 August 2012 05:10 (thirteen years ago)
So, McDonalds, Wendy and ...? Harvey's? Do you guys have Harvey's in the US? Or does that not count as fast food because they make their burgers fresh on the grill or whatever.

Five Guys, Smashburger and Culvers are the "acceptable" options in Minnesota. And White Castle.
― Eric H., Monday, 6 August 2012 16:05 (thirteen years ago)
We just got a few Five Guys in Montreal but I had no idea what they were. I'm not normally a burger person, but are they any good?
― twinkin' and drinkin' and ready to fly (Alex in Montreal), Monday, 6 August 2012 16:10 (thirteen years ago)
This is such a strange turn of conversation for the thread.
They are supposed to be the best I think; I'd love to try one but balk at the idea of spending $6 for a burger.

Kinda into Chipotle. Lol @ this from Marketplace: "...we're in what you might call 'the Chipotle economy,' which is that people want to feel like they're paying McDonald's prices but they're getting Chili's."
