Kells was visually lovely and certainly respectable but it lacked even a hint of a pulse.

billstevejim, Sunday, 5 August 2012 18:31 (thirteen years ago)

I'm glad because I am deeply ashamed about it! :(

"Pffft" --buddha (silby), Sunday, 5 August 2012 18:33 (thirteen years ago)

maybe not "deeply"

"Pffft" --buddha (silby), Sunday, 5 August 2012 18:33 (thirteen years ago)

it gives busy people the time to actually watch these things.

billstevejim, Sunday, 5 August 2012 18:34 (thirteen years ago)

Maybe this is a good time to mention: Ren & Stimpy animator/genius/cool dude John Kricfalusi was a guest on the Nerdist podcast on Friday -- all kinds of great stuff in here, including a killer story about an adventure he had with Bob Clampett. lots of stuff about the old school animators, the horrible 80's years, everything. http://www.nerdist.com/2012/08/nerdist-podcast-john-k/

What's up with this poll?

Tuomas, Wednesday, 22 August 2012 10:23 (thirteen years ago)

I suck is what's up! Having a job is confusing and takes a lot of time and energy, I'm not used to it. I'm gonna close this out though, I promise.

*Just* watched the Winnie the Pooh -- OH MY GOD. So brilliant, and also exquisitely (painfully) poignant towards the end.

R=J-L (Leee), Friday, 7 September 2012 03:41 (thirteen years ago)

thanks so much for tezuka's jump; I was just discussing it with a friend. so good.

man I need to get back on this. This isn't the first time I've fucked up at following through with a messageboard poll! I'm serious! Life has been a bit chaotic though. Sorry sports fans.

"Pffft" --buddha (silby), Friday, 7 September 2012 03:45 (thirteen years ago)

billstevejim, Friday, 7 September 2012 18:59 (thirteen years ago)

kinda bummed it didn't make the top 100, but happy it came close enough to be included in this thread by accident haha

billstevejim, Friday, 7 September 2012 19:02 (thirteen years ago)

I'm not just an overly sentimental sap when it comes to toons, am I? Winnie is srsly affecting, yeah?

R=J-L (Leee), Saturday, 8 September 2012 01:03 (thirteen years ago)

nah, they're gorgeous cartoons. you don't even need the subtitles to enjoy them.

How's the job going? How are the results going? How's anything going?

Also recently found on a hidden web 1.0 page with several UK and European based shorts were in some sort of mid-60's competition.. Clips for Dirty Birdy and Wallace & Gromit were among the dozens of nominees. Years later, my friends found this with no context of what it could be about and we decided it was creepy as hell, and the 20-seconds of dialogue have stuck in my head ever since... "Come from there. Who's your parents? Don't know. Grew up in an orphanage." I just did 20-minutes of Google searching to determine the short is called "Ugly Head," and I've been wanting to view the entire thing since 11 years ago, just out of curiousity.

crossposted in tcm alert thread

it’s with great honor that I report to you that an hour’s worth of rare silent-era animation from my collection will be airing on Turner Classic Movies, *tonight*, at 12am eastern/9pm pacific. For this very special and long overdue broadcast event, we’ve curated several rare, once-thought-lost, historically significant or just downright funny cartoons produced in New York City between 1907 and 1926. That’s not all, though--TCM host Robert Osborne, with Jerry Beck co-hosting, are also presenting both Fleischer features, a block of UPA cartoons, and The Adventures of Prince Achmed in addition to the early NYC shorts.

It’s not to be missed! I hope some or many of you can tune in or set your DVR in time. Important links pertaining to this event below...

My guide to the early NYC animation:

No reason he couldn't pass the numbers on to someone else to finish the results rollout.

WilliamC, Friday, 9 November 2012 22:58 (thirteen years ago)

The rollout reminds me of the heady days of ILC.

Leeezzarina Sbarro (Leee), Saturday, 10 November 2012 01:23 (thirteen years ago)

Does someone want to volunteer to complete the rollout? I seem to not be trustworthy.

Or alternately I can try to get this ship afloat again tonight. Shame-inspired mental blocks are a drag

Infamous dickbiscuits (silby), Monday, 12 November 2012 15:26 (thirteen years ago)

Nah, I get it, dude. I don't feel like volunteering to take over the roll-out, so I won't contribute further to guilt. Any good Samaritans out there?

yay, it's back on!

Never actually seen "Little Red Hot Riding Hood" before, or at least not all the way through. Pretty good stuff! Takes a few minutes to really get rolling but some killer sight gags along the way - love the wolf's contraption for giving extra applause and table-pounding - and the climax at Grandma's is a real outpouring of technique and excitement (even if the content itself is kind of misogynistic and gross).

Doctor Casino, Wednesday, 14 November 2012 01:53 (thirteen years ago)
